  1. I bought my first Atari VCS used in 1981 and only bought games at the flea market, or a few from the bargain bin at Toys R Us or Sears for a dollar or two. But I did buy a bunch of Colecovision and Vectrex games brand new and they cost $19.95 to $34.95 in 1982-1983. I don't know exactly how that translates to "sterling", but I think it might have translated roughly to $1.50 or so to the pound, making the equivalent of 12 to 25 pounds per game. I also happened to live in San Jose, CA at the time, which is physically close Atari, Activision, Apollo, Imagic, etc where most of the games came from.

By the way, there is no substitute to going to a flea market that is physically close to any companies who recently went bankrupt if you want to get your hands on prototypes, demos, and development hardware at bargain basement prices. I used to go to the San Jose Flea Market every week and saw (and recognized) lots of that kind of stuff available in the 80's, but generally passed it by, foolishly not realizing what demand there would be for it today.
