  1. I also remember reading that it is a standard cue ball; if so, you may have many color options.
  2. You'll only be counting sheep on those websites.
  3. Just read about the skvader referenced above; sounds very similar to jackalope. I bet the myths developed in similar fashion. Based on perceived physiology, the skvader probably couldn't fly, but then a jackalope probably couldn't even stand up.
  4. It started as a search for more fun games and developed into "one of each" in the era of plenty. Soon, bags of games arrived in the den weekly. They had to be sorted. Soon, lists appeared. Boxes, plastic containers, sleeves, bins, tubs, shelves, storage units. Maybe I won't keep everything. That was the moment I realized what I really enjoyed about my collecting and decided to not keep any games I'll never want to play again (with a few exceptions, of course). That was something like 15 years ago and I'm still getting rid of stuff I don't want. My advice is enjoy collecting however it works best for you, but don't let it control you.
  5. Zoda's Revenge, the one at the bottom of the last stack (when in proper alphabetical order).
  6. Metal Storm Micro Machines Mighty Bomb Jack Monster Party All NES (I'm in the M's)
  7. Any port, in a storm...
  8. There's also interpreters, compilers, emulators, simulators, microcode mods, and you-can-keep-on-going, that all will execute the original code.
  9. Guess I had four of the 5 volumes I got somewhere. I enjoyed reading them, though I skipped parts and didn't try much out.
  10. Once they make 70% alcohol, just run the process again: 70% of 30% is 21% 70% + 21% = 91% --- I always assumed that xx% alcohol was otherwise mostly water, with some trace residue, unless the label indicates other ingredients.
  11. In general, journalists are terrible prognosticators. They are trained to document the past, and that focus can blind a person to potential futures. Not sure I'd agree the 5200 controller sabotaged the system. it's really OK for a lot of games. As far as reliability goes, I remember my original controllers had some problems long after the warranty was out and Atari replaced them free of charge and they still work. I have taken them apart to clean and applied Caig R5 Power Booster to the contacts.
  12. Personally, I would first see if anyone in my family wanted it and give it to them and absorb the cost. I bet there are people who would be happy to pay $100 for that set, maybe 200. Of course, you might run into a fool with his money and get a lot more, or part it out online to get those values you see there.
  13. ...and yet another thread devolves into an argument over generation...
  14. a) I do not accept the premise "was". b) I own and play both, but only for one game on the intellivision, Loco Motion/Happy Trails. The 2600 games get WAY more of my attention.
  15. possibly a tuning issue? try another TV, maybe fine or gross tuning, also verify the cable is ok.
  16. try reformatting the card (specific software is suggested somewhere above)
  17. Yeah. Or I can easily imagine mom & pop business inventory getting shoved into the garage when pop goes into the nursing home and mom ignores it for 20 years after that until the kids eventually open it up and say "what's this".
  18. My cursory research shows each cartridge contains a MOS Technology MPS-7600-00X chip, which is apparently a microcontroller. Could you maybe modify an existing game cartridge with a new microcontroller (assuming you could find one or emulate one)? I'm sure you could control it with a pi or similar.
  19. I don't believe those numbers represent the distribution, at least in the US. I've seen MANY more loose Genesis Sonic 2 carts than Sonic.
  20. Another thread showing some old stock from a cartridge game store got me wondering about something. I've noticed a couple of used game stores disappear recently (prob. due to virus) and thought about how many stores I've shopped at over the years are no longer there. It's a lot. I know a few were liquidated (Game Crazy comes to mind), but I always just assumed that most of these unsold lots would have been dispersed quickly, but maybe the most common result is they somehow always get swept away into storage of some kind. I'd be curious how many games are out there, shrink-wrapped in boxes, forgotton, abandoned, or just on ice from once-thriving businesses...
  21. Intellectual BS. Everyone can see patterns that don't exist when predisposed to look for them.
  22. Missile Command (1980) has smart bombs, but they don't clear the screen, except sometimes they DO, when you are down to your last city and a smart bomb kills it. Also, Missile Command may also technically qualify because at the end, when you lose, the world always blows up (and clears the screen).
  23. Those wood holders are interesting. They would stack nicely, which TGs don't, even with a power brick and controller attached, which could be placed in those empty spaces behind the console. If you were switching between several devices, that would be useful. Maybe the guy was just really excited about his wood-working skills.
  24. Sears used to put their name on lots of products, and somehow that diminished the value to me. Not sure if I would react the same way today, though.
