Today, Are There Any Careers In Atari 2600?
fiddlepaddle replied to MeatWithGravy's topic in Atari 2600
"Do what you love and the money will follow" is a nice sentiment, but not really the best advice. Generally speaking, the best paying jobs are for doing what others won't do, or can't do. Plus, you'll probably get more job satisfaction from something that challenges you as well. I would find out who all is hiring, and then choose based on how you respect the people and company. Working hard on a good opportunity with good people is FAR superior to a lazy-hazy-sell-your-time job (of course, we all have to make enough to pay the bills). -
Coleco Industries,Inc. 1983 Annual Report

So, about 2 million Colecovisions sold through the end of 1983, worldwide. -
Atari VCS or Atari 2600 jr. for best experience?
fiddlepaddle replied to Bubsy3000's topic in Atari 2600
Heavy sixers seem better built, but sometimes the switches still break off. Jr switches seem to wear out sooner, though. Some people say video on H6's is brighter and clearer. Jr is more "cute" and compact. Lots of people are happy with any 4 or 6 switch classic model. -
Enough of this divisive talk... We are all one!

Fake/Repaired Promotional only Vader 2600?
fiddlepaddle replied to OldSlabSides's topic in Atari 2600
There were many 2600s sold by Atari that consisted of parts recovered from returned units, often mix-and-match like that...mostly refurbished, but promos too. -
I like it...a high performance 2600. Soup it up with an air foil, clamp on a super charger and add a racing stripe! I wonder just how fast a 2600 could be? new software would be required, but you could create amazing graphics...

Just an FYI: Be more interesting if you typed into your post a little bit about your opinion on the topic rather than just putting a link to YT. Not really much motivation to waste bandwidth and time just to find out what you want. I'm sure you're a nice enough person, but in my opinion, it's a bit off-putting.

In my house, the Colecovision is ALWAYS relevant, and NEVER an afterthought. It's possible to estimate numbers, and by bracketing with known (or very likely) limits, one might just arrive at realistically reliable figures using statistics and probabilities. It is a mind-numbing exercise, though. In any case, I can personally confirm at least seven units. Any one else?

Ok. Time to start collecting cereal box-tops again...

Do you find yourself drifting away from the scene?
fiddlepaddle replied to Keatah's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Don't really interact much with others "in the scene", except occasional conversations at a game store or show. Or here, of course. I like this forum...it keeps me posted on what's new and whats hot (and what's causing consternation or disruption). But my "the scene" is pretty much me and my handful of favorite games interleaved with a fairly low-key life; what other people do doesn't really affect me much, with respect to video games. Yet, this topic has elicited great responses from lots of familiar posters, so I guess you're "making a scene" (scene that one comin'...scene is believing.) -
Getting old isn't really the problem; it's usually just that last little bit.

I know nothing about the mod, but it sure sounds like a power issue somehow. Did you try another power supply?

One bottle and the game's over for me these days...

First, I would have bought the Vectrex 3D imager new. And all the Virtual Boy games. And I probably should have passed on the 5200(s) since I don't really play those games, although it was good to try them all out and understand what the 5200 really offers. I should have saved my money on the PS2 console and games...mildly interesting at first load, but nothing that brings me back. Later, I would NOT have bought so much extra stuff just because it was cheap. One backup system is good, two is maybe OK, but 20 or 30 Genesis consoles without power supply (and TONS of extra game pads) is nothing but more stuff to move around.

My latest Youtube episode: Xonox Double Enders for Atari 2600
fiddlepaddle replied to classicgamer74's topic in Atari 2600
I always took my lead from Xerox ("zee-rocks"), so I pronounced it "zon-icks". That might be a bad example these days since maybe nobody under 30 even knows what that is... -
Seems like a futile effort, but whatever... it's theirs.

Also, the "adult" games were not carried by the normal toy and department stores. Wasn't Kool Aid Man mail order? but I think it was eventually sent to stores as well... Not sure Air Raid ever made it to any stores, except liquidation at Tuesday Morning. There have been many limited release versions of games at game shows, computer clubs, and various marketing campaigns (maybe the most famous example, Pepsi Invaders). Atari also had those "loaner" carts of games they gave to testers...lots of those filtered out at garage sales and flea markets in the bay area.

Just because you are not FORCED to have it there doesn't mean you want to be putting extra RF noise in the air around you, especially if you are already using older RF equipment. It may not mess up your TV watching, but it still might affect something you care about (or might care about in the future), for example slowing down the communication speed of something that it interferes with only a little bit. I would put it back; it doesn't hurt anything, and it's more stock that way.

You could use a DB9 cable and just not screw the tightener screws: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-RS232-Serial-Female-SCNM9FM2MBK/dp/B00CEMGMMM/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_bs_t_1/137-2249985-3963001?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=Y739GBG9JEZ22P1NXW0F or even a Genesis controller extension cable (you may need to string a few together if you can't find one the right length): https://www.amazon.com/SN-RIGGOR-Extension-Genesis-Controlle-Controller/dp/B06XYWXNNH/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1531524248&sr=1-1&keywords=Genesis+controller+extension&dpID=41mv8v1NUoL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

I don't know much about the emulator, but it sounds like something related to your zip software. Can you try unzipped files?

Isn't there a brightness control on the TV? or contrast?
