[Vectrex Test Cart Overlays]

I still have  my screen printed, die cut, poly carbonate, Test Cart overlays for sale. They are exact reproductions of the original test cart overlay used in the GCE/MB factory. They are ideal for hobbyists to help ensure they have their Vectrex display adjusted correctly. Use this in conjunction with the Vectrex service manual. They also make good overlays for some of the Vectrex games, e.g. add a gun sight to VecFever Battle Zone and Red Baron.

 

Please don't confuse these with the floppy ink jet printer produced overlays. See my overlay spec here. The pricing is as follows and covers postage and packing:

In addition to the 100% perfect overlays above I also have some 'b' class Test Cart overlays stil remaining. 'b' class indicate that they are not 100% perfect. The 'b' class overlays have a small blemish or light scratch on the back. These imperfections can be seen when holding up to the light. When the overlay is placed on the Vectrex the imperfection is impossible to see. As 'b' class overlays are not 100% perfect I am selling them at reduced prices:

[i need a replacement vectrex tranformers]

well the main rectifier diodes (1N5624) are rated for 3A. I think that it is a 9V AC X 2 @ 2 Amp transformer.

I never tried with that transformer so it might not be an exact mechanical fit so may need some modification.

 

Why don't you contact the ebayer to see if they would ship to Russia, seems they deliver everywhere else.

Actually I'm sure you would find an equivalent transformer in Russia.

The wire colours are different on the new transformer. Connect the blue wire to where the red wire was on the power board, and the black wire where the white wire was on the power board.

Also have a few Karl Quappe remaining and discounted YASI "B" stock.

The 'B' stock label given to YASI is to reflect that these overlays are not 100% perfect. They contain a small mark or two (depending on overlay).
These marks can only be seen when holding up to the light. When the overlay is on the Vectrex it is impossible to spot.
Therefore I am reducing the website advertised cost (see below) by 5.00GBP to reflect the overlays are not 100% perfect.

Please note these overlays are professionally screen printed and die cut. These should not be confused with the floppy home made ink jet produced overlays that can be sometimes found on the internet.

You will find it very difficult to tell the difference with this repro from the original Mine Storm overlay. The only give away is the intentional small copyright text on the right edge of the reproduction overlay. This text says "reproduction" on purpose in order to distinguish it from the original.

I am not familiar with Windows 98 but for your USB to serial adapter what do you see when you look in [Control Panel][system][Hardware][Device Manager] and then look under "Ports (COM & LPT)? If the USB to serial adapter is working, you should see it assigned with a COM number. There you can also check the Port Settings properties.

There were some folks who experimented with Fresnel Lenses (aka TV magnifier).

 

It was DarrlyB first, than me. However, doesn't work very well. The spiral structure built into the lens played havoc with the display of the vector graphics. On most of the games there seemed to be some strange prism and line spiralling effects.

[Vectrex Controller Question! HELP!]

You could run the test cart binary, and the plug your joystick into joystick controller 2, to see if the controller is functioning correctly. If it works (all buttons activate the animated button on the screen) in controller port 2, then there's something wrong with controller port 1. Have you checked for bent pins in port 1?

 

If the controller buttons do not seem to work, when the controller is plugged in controller port 2, then it is the controller, and yes, you have to take apart to have a look. By the sound of it, it does sound like a common signal has broken.

Its quite an art to remove to take the controller apart. You need to get a hair dryer, and gently heat and prise up the overlay where the screws are placed. I've seen a YouTube video on this process in the past.

yes, I would call it more a curiosity. At least with Art Master and Melody Master you can actually "play" with them. Even in the 72:1 multicart menus agrees with this. Art Master and Melody Master are listed under lightpen games, whereas Engine Analyser is listed under prototypes in the mesu selection.

No, Mail Plain is not on the 72:1 multicart. The only light pens "games" on the cart are Art Master and Melody Master.
