  1. LOL! No kidding. The controllers that came with it are made of suck and fail. I know! If I had been wearing socks, Galaga would've knocked them off. It's just like the arcade game! I bet Joust is awesome on the 7800 as well.
  2. It's not that the controller is bad in apperance. But the overall handling of it is akward. You have to put tons of push on the joystick to make normal movement. Oh, so maybe mine aren't broken after all! I was able to use my 7800 for the first time yesterday, and I thought there was something wrong with the controls (even though one was absolutely brand new, sealed in a plastic bag!). I tried the 2600 joystick and did much better at Galaga with that. Ugh. Sounds like a real pain. Maybe I'll sell it, as I really do prefer the 2600. Also, the buttons on the 7800 (reset, etc.) seem to stick a little bit.
  3. That would've been pretty cool. Imagine what the User's Manual would've looked like - it would've been as thick as a phone book!
  4. I'm not sure what you mean or how this would work. Can you explain it in simpler language, please?
  5. OK, I've heard of this but never seen it. I guess I'm not quite as ancient as I thought!
  6. Yes, this. I've been playing this game for 26 years. I could probably go through all of the mazes blindfolded. And it gets better every single time.
  7. It works! It works! The controller is sluggish and unresponsive, though. Is it broken, or am I not just used to it? Can I use a 2600 joystick in there instead? Edit: It's doing this where it freezes randomly in the middle of a game. Do I need to clean it more? Thanks again!
  8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetris_effect They should've called it the "Space Invaders Effect", because I remember experiencing it with Atari "Space Invaders" when I was a kid. So did my mom, who hated videogames but tried out "Space Invaders" just to please me. She said, "When I close my eyes at night, I see them marching!"
  9. I have a 7800 that someone bought for me at a garage sale. I just tried to fire it up and got the same black screen you described. I also tried a 2600 cartridge in it that I know works, and it showed me a really wonky screen. The 7800 didn't come with a manual, so perhaps I hooked it up incorrectly? I used the same cable/setup I use for my 2600; I just assumed it would be compatible. Perhaps it isn't. Or maybe there's something wrong with the 7800. I never had one before, so I don't know how it's supposed to behave. Oh, and I did try it on both channel two and three. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!
  10. Jeez, Cassidy, you really dated yourself there. I'll bet you remember black and white TV, and Winky Dink screens, and watching the dot disappear when you turned off the set (remember when we called them 'sets'?). And hello from a fellow geezer! I'm a geezer too, because I remember B&W TV and the dot, and calling them "sets". Winky Dink screens sound familiar, but I can't remember exactly what they were. Can you jog my memory?
  11. Yes, I did. http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...st&p=838902 Re: the second pic. Did anyone here actually keep their Atari that neat, with the joysticks sitting nicely atop the game unit? Mine was always a tangled mess of wires. It's only now that I'm (much!) older and (hopefully a little) wiser that I know better than that.
  12. My all-time favorite is Adventure. However, yesterday and today I've been playing Dark Chambers like it's my job. Someone put the maps online and now I just can't stop!
  13. Well, Dark Chambers managed a two-player game by making it so that the players had to walk together to get to different parts of the screen and both players had to leave the screen through the same door. BTW, first post here. Hi everyone!
