  1. I store my poorly sealed cans of gasoline and oil soaked rags right next to where I keep mine plugged in 24/7/365. Sure it gets too hot to touch and makes a burning plastic smell, but no flames or smoke. No problems yet. I say totally safe.
  2. https://www.smooth-on.com/ for low-volume custom parts?
  3. ADAM is the better choice, no contest. 1. built like a tank compared to the CV 2. has composite audio/video output, you just need to make the cable and it's easy to do. No need to mod the system for A/V out like CV requires. 3. cleaner RF output 4. no on/off power switch video/problems like plagues CV's 5. Far less RAM failures/corrupted video 6. plays SGM games, ADAM Super games on cart 7. Easier access to joystick ports 8. there are flash discs for the ADAM now, instant access to entire ADAM library 9. programmable 10. expandable, internal expansion ports You can get ADAM's dirt cheap if you avoid ebay and actually take 10 minutes to look around at flea markets, craigslist, classified ads etc. You can use a cheap PC power supply or arcade power supply to power the ADAM. The ADAM is not unreliable, the cassette tape drives were. Since you won't be using them, it's a non-issue.
  4. Is it possible to produce games that will run on the regular CV and then have enhanced sound/graphics if used with the SGM?
  5. Are these CV programmers in the witness protection program? Are their lives in danger if someone discovers their names?
  6. I always thought the criticism of the CV port, that it's missing the Galaxian stage, was unfair. They probably couldn't include it unless they wanted to get sued by Namco too.
  7. I feel the same way. It's 2016 not 1982 and I can't get excited over an arcade port, even a well done one. "That's neat" is my reaction to seeing a new CV arcade port, but I doubt I would buy it. I'd rather CV programmers/homebrewers focused their energy on CV originals/exclusives. That's 100x more interesting to me. I know it's their time/energy and I can't make them do what I want and others seem to still get all worked up over arcade ports over originals. The recent 'TRON light cycles' adaptation is an excellent example which satisfies both fans of the arcade original, which was very limited gameplay/replay-wise, and an expanded home version with new features and levels.
  8. Awesome acquisition! They had this kiosk at my local Monkey Wards too, the only place I ever saw one. Those controls are what Coleco should have made the controllers like. It's like they knew the arcade style ball-topped joystick and arcade buttons were better than the actual controllers. It would've truly brought the arcade experience home.
  9. I'm trying to locate a text walk-through for JJ, not a gameplay video. Anyone know of one, in English? Specifically, I'm currently stuck at the 'Figurits Revenge' stage. Is the CV version the same as C64/A800 versions?
  10. I'm just messing with you. There are no PAL/NTSC versions, they're the same. It looks like even the PB packaging is the same worldwide.
  11. Wow you found a PAL version? That's the only one in the world, you should hold onto it. Value? One billion Turkish dollars.
  12. I think that's what the CV 1.2 board thread is about, an improved CV pcb. I don't think anyone was trying to make a replica of the original pcb.
  13. The CV was meant to be a toy, it was made by a toy company. It wasn't meant to withstand 30 years of usage as a collectable system. They worked pretty well when they were new in 82-85. Is the CV flakier than the INTV I, Fairchilds, wood grain 2600's, Odyssey 2's, Astrocades? Not from what I've seen, plus the CV is much more complicated and has more parts that could potentially fail or drift out of spec after 25-30 years. CV's and ADAM prices seem to have fluctuated wildly. I could barely sell working CV's with A/V mods and games for even $50 on ebay in the 90's. I couldn't get $5 for a working ADAM then either. If prices are high now, they'll likely crash again. The CV service manual is on here AFAIK and contains troubleshooting sections on no sound, no video etc., has flowcharts, pictures of the expected results with a meter on a good board, parts list of every part, schematics. It's all there already and always has been.
  14. Yes, it's been flooded like this for quite a while, too long. I never bother responding to any of their tiresome threads anymore. When 99% of these newb posters show up and ask us how to fix their CV, what they really mean is "fix it for me". If you tell them anything that requires ANY effort on their part, like having to open the case with a screw driver, that CV is going into the trash faster than you can say "landfill". None of them actually want to do anything to fix their CV. They just throw them in the trash and try to get another off ebay.
  15. That's very cool but what are you supposed to do with it? Does it have a way to export your recorded samples as data you could insert into a game or other program as sound fx or music?
  16. I don't know how yurkie does it. They way I used to mod mine 20 years ago was based on the ADAM's A/V output circuit AFAIK. It tapped into points near the video chip.
  17. Since you don't have the time to work on CV 1.2, can you outsource it to an engineer in India, Russia or Taiwan or someplace to finish it up? It's hardware is well documented and you know and can explain what specific features you want to add. It can be done relatively inexpensively through a site like Upwork. You set up a project budget ahead of time and create milestones that must be hit to receive the next payment.
  18. Just bypass the RF circuitry completely with an A/V mod.
  19. Decathalon is unplayable without the roller controller IMO. Having to jerk the joystick L-R 2,500 x per minute not only is no fun, it kills your hand and destroys CV joysticks. Is there a way to use the Atari computer trakball with CV? The Atari trakball controller is much nicer and solid feeling and has a larger, arcade sized ball.
  20. What's better about RGB instead of the more common component video, especially since the CV video chip outputs a form of component video already?
