I don't get who the target audience is for this movie. Do any moviegoers under age 40 really know who Q*bert is? Are people 40-50 who do have nostalgia for original DK (1981?), Pac man etc, going to pay to see this in a theater? I doubt it. It seems like they would've been better off skewing the videogame references to NES/SNES/Genesis era since that seems to be more the movegoing audience age.

One like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120966914183?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I wondered if this could be made to work with the CV, just by changing the connector plug or do you need the PCB from inside a CV rollerball controller to make it work. I was never really happy with the feel or smaller size of the trakball in the Coleco one. The Atari CX-22 was better as well.

I could never really get into this system, even though I was able to pick up a ton of games for it cheap. I always got the feeling I was playing PC games. The games didn't have that console feel/vibe to me ever. I'm a much bigger fan of the Saturn.

2nd and Charles - Retailer sells old games

I can't imagine trying to build a collection by buying at retail. It seems like a last resort kind of option. -
Bally Astrocade--Ticking time bomb or worthy acquisition?
Vectorman replied to Noah98's topic in Bally Arcade/Astrocade
You're already aware the system needs ventilation, so as long as you do that it'll be fine. You could always add a heat sink to the internal components if you're really worried about it but I think the overheating problem is greatly overstated online. It's worth getting if you can get a multicart for it, otherwise it's a pass. -
Does anyone remember the CYBIKO?
Vectorman replied to Omega-TI's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I owned a couple of these and sold off a couple dozen on Ebay BITD. I thought it was a very cool unit for the time and I really liked that they released a new free game for it every day or every week. They were simple games of course, but that's all handhelds are good for IMO. I had a good version of PAC MAN that someone wrote for it. It might be the same guy that wrote Asteroids. It was cool that it was a completely open system with development docs and software freely downloadable on the Cybiko website. All this at a time when all other hardware companies kept their systems tightly closed to amatuer developers. I also had the MP-3 cart for it. This was a cool feature at a time when the cheapest Apple I-pods were probably like $600. The last time I checked mine I couldn't get the battery to recharge or hold a charge and it was an oddball battery I didn't know where to buy a replacement. Cybiko had a scam running where they would encourage kids to promote the system online, at school and tell people who were interested to use your ID code to buy. The new buyer would get a discount and you would receive credits that could be reimbursed for new Cybikos for yourself. Well the Cybiko company was not fulfilling their end of the deal and never reimbursing those who promoted their system and earned all those Cybiko credits. I ended up writing a letter to the Illinois Attorney General's office complaining about their scam. Shortly after I received a box full of new Cybikos. Then I received another box full of new Cybikos. -
Where are the ROM files on your site?

Can I use the site if I'm a recovering former addict?

Why do these homebrew game carts go out of production so quickly? I understand that you only have so many boxes printed up, but there are many of us who don't care that much about having a boxed copy and would still want a physical cart of the game. It reeks of the desire for creating artificial rarity/artificial demand among collectors.

The Greatest ColecoVision Controller Ever Created
Vectorman replied to Hannacek's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Never understood the anti-ergonomics of the NES pad's square corners, to dig into your hands after extended play sessions. Even Coleco got it right by rounding off the edges of their controllers. -
What could be wrong with my new ColecoVision?
Vectorman replied to cbmeeks's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
This kind of crap is why we need that CV 1.2 project now more than ever. All the CV's out there are probably toast by now. I considered buying another CV off ebay but I'm too tired of dealing with these problems. -

Try a different power supply before you go desoldering memory chips/power switches. CV's are very picky about PS's and sometimes work perfectly with one and are glitchy with another. -
They're as common as hens teeth.

I stumbled across this program that was highly recommended on a MSX programming forum and thought I'd pass it along to anyone else interested. Complete Machine Code Tutor http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0008031 It's a step by step Z80 assembly tutor for absolute beginners. It's for the ZX Spectrum computer, so pick a ZX emulator and try it. There's seems to be about 30 different Spectrum emulators. I just picked Speccy for Windows, it's been updated recently. http://fms.komkon.org/Speccy/#Screenshots I didn't have luck getting the TZX file to load without errors. I might have done something wrong. The TAP image did succesfully load the lessons on Speccy.

or just use a common PC power supply. Fixing a CV ps? really?

I could swear I've seen something like this in a Musicians Friend catalog. It was made by TASCAM or Alesis, a dedicated jog wheel/volume control for recording on the PC.

Several years ago, I went to an arcade auction at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. All anyone there cared about was GALAGA-PAC MAN-MS. PAC MAN, basically. They wouldn't bid on any other machine because they were all saving their money to bid on the same old games, ala Galaga. They would then proceed to bid them up to something stupid like $3,000. There was an excellent condition 'Carnival' there that went cheap. The auctioneer was like "$25 - anyone? Anyone?".

Sean Kelly ColecoVision Multi-Carts
Vectorman replied to HkryCrkStudio's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Apparently these flake out and become defective. I don't know how many of the ones sold are still functioning. I had two earlier SK CV multicarts that used DIP switches to select the game you wanted. -
Recommend me some cheap Sega Saturn games that are good
Vectorman replied to copper20's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Sonic R is worth getting, just to see the amazing graphics. Really pushed the system hardware. Ten Pin Alley is a fun game, even if you're not a bowler. Loaded with cool easter eggs. Much better than PSX version, AFAIK. Bug Too! Great, really creative platformer. MUCH better game than the first. Great graphics, music, sound effects. Top notch! Scorcher. Amazing graphics, fun racer. Virtua On! Killer port of a awesome arcade game. Giant fighting robots, nuff said. NHL 98, really slick hockey game. Late release. Winter Heat - IIRC, like the Winter Games version of Decathalete. Steep Slope Sliders - THE best skiing/snowboarding game on any system ever. Loaded with cool easter eggs. Decathalete - HIGH resolution, arcade graphics. FUN, simple, easy to grasp controls and events. Like classic Activision Decathalon but with great 32 bit graphics. Fighting Vipers - fighting game with personality, hot chicks. House of the Dead - probably the only light gun game I ever enjoyed playing, other than Gunblade NY. Mass Destruction - 60 fps, silky smooth arcade-like fun. Drive around a tank with flamethrowers, destroy everything in sight. Tomb Raider Croc - looked good, heard good things about it. There are a bunch of great, cheap, common domestic games for the Saturn. Despite what the online fanboys insist, you don't really need to seek out expensive imports* to find tons of great stuff to play. *unless you really need to play Japanese schoolgirl RPG's. -
I wants gamz. I can't be botherd to bild my collekshun myself. Sell me your gamz! I want Xonox double-enderz and super sketch - boxed. K-thx Cheers!

I got a CV for Xmas 1982 and an ADAM a few years after that, had every game released on cart or datapack plus unreleased protos/demos I got from my ADAM user group, SA controllers, roller controller, steering wheel. I get it.

Honestly, I'm kinda burnt out on most classics arcade games at this point, even my faves. I've played them to death.
-
I also like the idea of classic titles that go above and beyond just the original game, like Donkey Kong on the Game Boy, Jumpman Lives on the PC, Pac Man Remix. I think using classic game characters/gameplay but with newly designed, exclusive levels like DK Gameboy, would satisfy both camps and sell well. It seems like there's TONs of cool concepts waiting to be explored yet are completely neglegted in favor of another straight arcade port, often of a game that's already on every platform.

Super Action Controllers cleaning and repair guide
Vectorman replied to Tron Unit's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Good luck getting those back together right once you've got them apart. I'd discourage taking apart Coleco controllers. Just open them up just enough to spray some contact cleaner in all the switches/contacts. It would be nice if there was some sort of maintenence kit made for Coleco controllers like Best Electronics made those gold replacement membranes for 5200 controllers.
