Intellivisions are the next one for me to put a kit together for, but I'm about a month out for time to do it.

Kinda/sorta 16 bit. Officially it's a 16 bit CPU but has 10 bit hardware support... The registers in the CPU are 16 bit but the instruction set and carts are 10 bits wide.

Yes. It can be repaired. I've done one for someone over on the KLOV forums. Disclaimer: You are on your own! Electricity can kill, you can burn your house down if you try to bypass fuses & safety devices. Insert other scary wording here. Take a small hammer and go around the seam hitting it on the short side of the seam. You'll have to whack it pretty good. The idea is to break the seal to open the power supply up. Inside you'll find a circuit board with some voltage regulators. Resolder any cracked solder joints. Hell, there are so many bad ones inside the one I fixed that I just resoldered the whole dang thing! Check the components in it for bad ones, replace as necessary. Tape it back together and test. If everything is working then you can glue the case back together with some epoxy. RJ

Online backups bring a lot of questions up... Who has access to the data? Is it encrypted? Who has access to the key management system? Is the company insured and are the employees with access to my data bonded? What is their system patch policy? When was the last time they tested their cyber defenses? What is their privacy policy? What is their policy on turning data over to authorities? What about "warrantless" searches of my data? Under whose law is my data protected? (In other words, what country is it stored in?) How are they protecting my data from loss due to their hardware failures? No thanks.

http://www.datasheetarchive.com is your friend for chip info. You might not be able to use the chips from PC motherboards as many of those have boot sectors that are specially handled. This is different than a simple parallel output EEPROM IC. RJ

It doesn't do s-video output, only composite. I haven't investigated doing s-video yet on the CV. The instructions are in the download section of my website. They haven't been updated yet for the red/white wire issue. I need to grab another CV out of storage and install a kit to take new pics of the red wire. I'm terrible at Photoshop. It's all in pieces, but there aren't very many pieces to solder in. 3 caps, 3 resistors, and one chip socket. Raymond

No. I just have the schematics. This is digital logic, you aren't going to find "voltage levels" on the chips but rather "logic levels." Instead of measuring voltages you should be looking at the logic levels with a logic probe or an oscilloscope to determine where the problems are. It's not hard to learn digital logic and what signals you should be seeing on the chips. It does take time and patience. I would think that the 2600 expansion is pretty close to a 2600 itself. There isn't much to a 2600: 1 6507 CPU, 1 6522 RIOT (RAM, I/O, and Timer), and a TIA chip. RJ

Text is correct. I'll have to color the wire with Photoshop. The CV uses red for the +12v connection from the power jack so I supplied that wire with the kit. RJ

How would you handle the refresh on memory of that size?

And Velleman probes are NOT good probes. I can't get square trace edges to show up with those things no matter how they are adjusted. Major POS product. Getting a used Tektronix, HP, or Agilent probe would be your best bet.

There's an old ham at the local electronics flea market (www.firstsaturday.com) that has boxes upon boxes of tubes. He'll probably have some.

I'd watch out for the Tek 22xx scopes. If the hybrid ICs go out you are left with a door stop. RJ

Thanks! I tried to price it where it would NOT be a "rape & pillage" of the community. I TOTALLY understand on the shipping part. The reason I standardized on Priority Mail is that it really makes it easier on shipping chips since they are protected by the boxes. It also saves me from having to go buy as many shipping supplies and is easier to integrate into the shopping cart. Raymond

I built 10 kits and now there are 8. I sold the second tonight to a local Neo-Geo.com/Digital Press forum member that came over tonight for some AES repairs and modification. I bought more components and wire to make more kits. I just have to order all the RCA jacks to finish them up. That will give me another 20 to list soon. Those Sega Game Gear units are notorious for bad caps. I'm going to do a cap order this weekend and will be assembling main board and sound board cap kits.

The 7805 voltage regulator can handle far more than 12v input, but the problem is the small heatsink that Atari put on it. The higher the input voltage the more heat the IC has to dissipate when it regulates that down to 5 volts. RJ
