Photos of the inside of my Telegames DINA (Coleco clone)
channelmaniac replied to GonzoCV-1's topic in Hardware
If you feel adventurous you might try opening the RF modulator and replacing any electrolytic caps in it to see if that fixes your color issues. If it doesn't then you can try some component cooler to isolate the heat sensitive part to figure out which one to replace. RJ -
Price? Also, let me know if the F System doesn't sell.

Post up their ID if they don't give you the merchandise or a refund. Inquiring minds want to know! -

Check the output of the audio IC. If it's missing, replace it... If it's there then check for problems in the RF Modulator. If you need an RF Modulator, I should be able to help you out. I have a few parts boards here. RJ

I found FreePCB awkward ad frustrating to use. Is there one that works the same way as you should use photoshop or something more graphical? Try Eagle. It took a bit to figure out what to use for a simple empty solder hole to connect wires to on the layout screen but once I got the hang of it, it was easy.

Yup! Even if you are using it for commercial use, it's pretty dang cheap too!

WANTED: someone to AV mod my colecovision/intellivision
channelmaniac replied to RGB_Gamer's topic in Wanted
Same here!I'd love to get my Coleco and Intelli 1 AV modded! And eventually I'd like to buy a 7800 and 4 port 5200 modded Eventually If you want composite video/audio on the CV I can do that. I had some PC boards made up for the mod. I'll have to look into the Intellivision. I have some in storage that I'll have to grab and toy with. RJ -
Wanted: 901229 & 6502 chips to fix commodore 1541 floppy drive
channelmaniac replied to SEgamer's topic in Wanted
I've got the ROM and the 6502A on my website... The A is a faster speed rated part. I'm out of the 6502 right now. -
If you need, I can swap that chip out for you. RJ

FedEx lost the package, but luckily the house on the next cul-de-sac over was the recipient and he brought it over that night. They look great but I haven't had a chance to assemble one an mod a Colecovision to see how well the layout works. I'll check ExpressPCB to see how their rates are as I need to build a couple of bigger items. $4 per board at 3/4 x 1 1/4 is expensive. BatchPCB.com is $2.50 per square inch. Perhaps you can change the layout a bit to shrink it? On the CV A/V board I laid the resistors out upright to shrink it down to less than a square inch. Also, have you ever done surface mount boards through them? I'm wondering if an A/V mod for a 2600 can be built using SMT parts to where it can fit in the TIA socket. Just unplug the TIA, plug in the mod board, then plug the TIA into it. I haven't had time to tinker but may install Eagle on my work laptop just so I can play around with that idea while out at a friend's ranch this weekend doing some hog hunting. RJ

Swap the controllers between ports. If the problem stays with the ports there's a 74LS541 IC you'll need to replace. There are two of them, each one is right next to the jack for each player. Replace the one on port 1. If it stays with the controller then repair/replace the controller. RJ

Guy on digitpress is selling two of them for $170. Must be less than the cost of murdering someone... Just a thought, haha. Depends on the neighborhood you live in.
-
Between that and faulty rubber plugs in the ends of the caps... or using underrated caps in high frequency or high voltage spiking circuits will lead to failure.
-
The caps from that era suffer from leaking electrolyte problems. It'll corrode the board under the cap and cause all kinds of nastiness. clean the board the best you can and replace the caps. Your game that is working is most likely just biding its time before dying. They all will eventually. Replace the caps.

I thought they'd send out an email or some kind of notification... but nope. I checked the website today and WOOHOO! It shows a tracking number and FedEx says I will have it tomorrow.
-
I haven't, so no idea. It sounds like it would be a bitch to troubleshoot for shorted traces though. If you were off by 1 ten thousands of an inch you'd have a whisker shorting you out. I'll keep you posted on using batchpcb.com.
-
I checked my site and it says I'm out of those... I'll double-check inventory tonight and update the site. Yes, the MM5290 and the D416 are the same as a generic 4116 part number. Be careful when removing the old chip as you DO NOT want to lift a trace or pull out a plated thru hole.
-
Dunno the cheapest. I was pointed to batchpcb.com. We'll see how it all turns out in a couple of weeks.
-
Replace the 4116 DRAM IC at location U15. I have some available on my website. RJ

Pop it open and take a look at the guts. Those joystick sockets could have cracked solder joints. If that's not it you can look to see what chips those sockets are wired to and pick up a replacement. RJ
