  1. Pretty basic here. No pun intended. IIgs&CFFA3000. Would like to have a mockingboard or clone at some point. Not using it for apps, so I doubt I'll ever get an accelerator.
  2. I really like the Apple IIgs. It's not the best 16-bit computer, but it has a lot going for it. The library is smaller than the ST or Amiga, but it has a lot of classics that are really well done. And it's almost fully compatible with the IIe, so you get two computers in one.
  3. Best series ever. This is the birth of the 3rd person action/adventure/RPG.
  4. Yes, I think most of us have museums in our own home that are far more relevant than what these guys did. Do a bunch of Let's Plays and call it an exhibit. No, if it's not playable it won't give you any better understanding of gaming than your mom got from watching you play as a kid. Which is to say, none at all.
  5. Don't waste that coax RCA cable on composite video. Those are meant to carry RF, and you get much worse artifacting if you use a regular stranded RCA composite cable on an Atari.
  6. Speaking of small form factor emulator machines:
  7. While destruction is not necessary to secure your data(zeroing is sufficient), there's no harm in it. Adaptors to make modern storage devices, from SATA drives to CF cards, IDE compatabile are common and cheap. Vintage hard disks are going to fail sooner or later, so it's better to scrap them now than have a nasty surprise one day.
  8. The vectrex has an analog joystick. You could use absolute positioning to simulate mouse control.
  9. 1) Nethack 2) Quest for Glory 2 3) Starflight 4) DOOM 5) Secret of Monkey Island 6) Civilization II 7) Pool of Radiance 8 ) Wing Commander 9) Toejam & Earl 10) River City Ransom I think you can guess what my favorite platform is.
  10. Space heater. P4s are terrible, they're too modern to have retro appeal (no ISA slots, etc) and too old to do anything useful with. Everything a P4 can do, a Core chip can do better, faster, and more efficient, and just as cheaply second hand. It's a crap architecture too, yeah it gets high GHZ, but is outperformed per watt by the P3 and per cycle by the Athlon XP. A lot of people would say "har har, that old IBM XT is a boat anchor", but no there's really interesting and fun stuff you can do with it. Not so with P4s.
  11. Kinda empty in there. The one here in Omaha is always packed. Go figure.
  12. IMO, skip the XT and get a Tandy. A Tandy can do everything an XT can and more. I have an XT clone I never use because I have a Tandy.
  13. DOSBOS is a compromise. Try running Jazz Jackrabbit in Dosbox, and then try it on a 486 with a good video card. DOSBOX is good enough to play, but is clearly not the real thing.
  14. That looks exactly like my screen. It's fantastic, great score even if it needs some TLC.
  15. Good luck picking up a C128D in the wild for $30!
  16. For the most part there's not much that uses the C128 mode. Still I like mine a lot. The power supply is more reliable, and the keyboard is better. One of the best uses for the C128 is the Elite hack that runs about 50% faster than the original. Really cuts down on the flicker, which makes the game so much smoother. Best version I've played, but I haven't played the BBC original.
  17. The weight of these things is overhyped. Yes, it's big and heavy. Strap it to a dolly. Get two men to heft it up onto its stand. Not a big deal.
  18. "Vintage" means what year it came from. A 1990 vintage wine was bottled in 1990. Simlarly, a 1990 vintage game was made in 1990. It's meaningless to say that Covert Action is a vintage game. It would only make sense to say that Covert Action is a 1990 vintage game.
  19. You could contact the guys at Bombjack and ask how they do it. They host an enormous amount of content for Commodore systems.
  20. Does the original need for speed support Voodoo graphics? I had thought the first to support 3dfx was NFS2. But I could be wrong. I have a glide rig and a steering wheel, I should give it a shot.
