  1. Since were getting close to Xmas here is my memory of Xmas as a youth. Xmas of '80 I was shocked to realize my parents got me an Intellivision. If I recall my dad paid something like $300 for it. I was the most popular kid in school at that time as no one and I mean no one in my class had one although a few friends did have an Atari 2600. Everyone wanted to come over and see it. Fun days. Xmas of '83 I was once again shocked when I received a Commodore 64 which I also believe costed around $300. My reasons for being shocked was the price tag these systems carried at that time and considering we weren't rich I really appreciated my parents generousity. Share some of your Xmas stories
  2. I would say my peak occured while owning an Intellivision around '83. I could sense that Mattel was going downhill (video game industry in general at that time). I realized also at that time Coleco was the king in terms of graphics but I didn't want to jump on that bandwagon when I saw ads for the Commodore 64. I saw the Commodore 64 as the answer to better sound/graphics more flexability than any of the current consoles could offer. I can still recall the ad in video game magazines by Parker Brothers (I believe) showing a screen shot say of Congo Bongo for every system out at that time. It was funny how Congo Bongo looked when you compared the C64 version all the way down to the Atari 2600 versio. Funny, because now that I think about it was Xmas of '83 that I would have received my C64. I believe my parents paid around $300. Wow, 26 years later where did that time go?
  3. I purchased the Starcade DVD a few years ago but it only has 5 episodes on it. I recall a few years ago that I was able to download a ton of these episodes from the net and now I can't find them. Can anyone recommend where I could get my hands on these? I realize there is a website www.starcade.tv that has these episodes utilizing Flash player but I'd rather watch these on my tv vs. PC. Is there a way to download these episodes from Flash to my PC then burn them to a dvd? Thanks for any help/suggestions.
  4. Click on order form. As you fill out the form you will see where you can enter the quantity of the book(s) that you want to order. You will then be taken to Paypal's site. I too was fooled at first in thinking it was out of print until I went to the order form. Hope that helps.
  5. I just noticed after typing my topic that you are selling it on Amazon. Did you also notice the seller below you asking for $145.00? I purchased Phoenix the 2nd edition '97 on half.com roughly three years ago and I believe I paid close to $50 which I thought was a deal. If Rolenta Press wasn't re-printing the 3rd edition I would think you could ask for more than $24.75. Which edition are you selling?
  6. I'm not sure if you guys know this but this book is once again available from Rolenta Press. Check out http://www.rolentapress.com/ This is supposed to be one of the best history of video games books written. Rolenta Press was supposed to be releasing a 4th edition but that has been delayed so they are re-printing the 3rd edition. I recently ordered this and I paid close to $28 which isn't bad considering that when it comes up for sale on Ebay it can easily go for $50 and up. I would suggest getting one while you can.
  7. Actually, I'd be happy to sell it for $50.00 plus shipping. I'd like to see it go to a good home.
  8. It's been years since I used this but I'm on a cleaning mission to get rid of items I don't use anymore. It's in good condition (I really didn't use it that much) and I even still have the instruction manual and PS/2 cable that came with it. Anyone interested for $75.00? I'll need to check on shipping prices. I'd also be happy to take pictures if requested. Thanks
  9. I'm curious, from your point of view how much would you pay for one of these? I'm curious what an Intv collector would pay for one of these. Thanks If you have one of those, count your lucky stripes. Yes, those are worth a LOT of money right now, just because they were made in such limited quantities. Im jealous you have one, I'm a huge Intv collector!
  10. Did anyone buy from Shiny Technologies one of their Classic Game Controllers? I purchased the CGC with Inty type 2 adapter(DB-9) maybe 6 years ago for around $75.00. I just realized after looking at their site tonight they no longer make these. Do you guys think this could have some collectable value to it? I guess I'm thinking of what happened with those Atari 2600 flash carts (Cuttle Cart2, etc) that are no longer in production and look what happens when one of those come up for sale. Either way I must admit mine did perform really well with the Nostalgia emulator.
  11. Well, before I purchased a Cuttle Cart3, I was using an emulator called Nostalgia. This was developed by a group that went by the name of Shiny Technologies. They also sold at one time a usb device called the classic game controller that I had purchased I believe for around $75.00. I just checked their web site http://www.shiny-technologies.com/cgc.php and I see they are no longer selling the classic game controller. I wonder, does this mean the one I have could be of value? Just a thought. I purchased the one that allowed you to hook up the Intv 2 controllers. It worked amazingly well with the Nostalgia emulator. Too be honest, you wouldn't know that a PC was running a Intv emulator if you were using this setup at my house. I would highly recommend getting a Cuttle Cart3 before their gone. If your still on a mission to get a usb intv adapter check out this site http://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=47. Good luck. Haha, you sound like me! I have an Intv, Intv II with ECS, Synth, and System Changer, and a System III. I have been wanting to get a cuttle cart since there are just some games I will probably not be able to obtain (like spiker) I was lucky enough to come across Congo Bongo and Fathom seal, but I can play them.. because they are sealed. Cuttle Cart would solve that! I also want to get the CV flash cart and a Crock Cart for 2600 (I think thats what its called anyway.) I still enjoy having the actual carts, but I know its beyond my ability to collect every game for every system. Hopefully someday we can have the same type of multi carts available for systems like SNES. I mean, what does it hurt the company? Its not like games are still being sold or made for these systems. Where did you come across a usb adapter compatible with Intv? I have plenty of emulators, the only one thats not a bitch to use the keyboard with is the 2600.
  12. http://cgi.ebay.com/Intellivision-collection-computer-music-synthesizer_W0QQitemZ380152735445QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Vintage_Video_Games?hash=item5882de66d5&_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116 Ok, if he/she actually sells this for $1758.00 I'm ready to part with my Intv collection which is also all boxed. Do you guys find this price tag a little absurd?
  13. If your into the classic systems and have money go the flash cart route. If your limited on money and space get a PC with a video card that can output to a tv (S-video). I would also recommend buying the many usb adapters available that allow you to use the real controllers. This is as about as close as one can get to the real deal and it's relatively inexpensive. For example, this is my personal history with video games: Had the Intellivision as a kid, parents threw it away. Used emulation to bring back the Intellivision memories but never felt right. Purchased the usb adapter so I could use the real Intv controllers getting very close to the real deal. Discovered flash carts, hit Ebay for an Intv and purchased the Cuttle cart 3. Wow, what more can I say. Went back to Ebay and figured I'd might of as well buy every hardware piece that was made for Intv (intellivoice/music keyboard/ecs computer) Can you tell I lean towards the Intellivision? So, basically I find myself buying the classic systems and flash carts. I can't explain it but it's like I'm on a mission.
  14. This has been sold. Thank you to everyone who inquired.
  15. Hi, Thanks for the interest but I don't want to ship to Europe. Thanks again
  16. Hi, Would anyone be interested in purchasing a "one time" used Neo PC-Engine 64M flash card? I intended on buying a Turbografx 16 system but ran out of funds. I did load roms onto the flash cart without a problem so I know that works fine. I purchased this about a year ago from www.ic2005.com for about $100.00. I have the original packaging and drivers on cd. I need the cash so I unfortunately must part with this. If anyone is interested and would like me to take some close up pictures I would be happy to. I'm asking $50. Thanks
  17. This topic brings back memories when I worked at a grocery store in the late 80's. There was a particular day in the week where the grocery store would throw out a ton of food in the morning. I swear a person could could almost have a free breakfast if you were to get to the dumpster before the garbage guy did. The people that usually did this were elderly who looked liked like they needed the food. If I came upon them I would tell them to be careful of what they were taking and go back to my business as if I never saw them. I do recall one day my boss handing me bleach and telling me to pour it over the food in the dumpster. I walked outside with this bleach and killed about five minutes of doing nothing and came back in the store and handed her the bleach. I thought to myself that I would in no way harm anyone who wanted to go through the dumpster and felt that to be cruel to someone in desperate need of food. Back to topic of going through garbage. I feel go for it as long as you don't leave a mess when your done.
  18. Back in '99 I acquired a Rastan arcade game for a trade. I traded the guy a 19" computer monitor I had for his arcade game. Back then a 19" computer monitor was kinda cool (and very big compared to todays technology). His wife didn't want the game around any longer. Everything was fine except for the coin door which I got working. I turned this into a Mame machine. Two years ago I acquired a P.O.W machine for $200. Everything was working fine although a few months later the monitor finally went. I didn't mind as the monitor had bad burn-in so I finally had a reason to purchase a new one. I also turned this into a Mame machine. I enjoy both of them.
  19. I knew that Mattel sold replacement Intv II controllers but I never saw or recall seeing them back in the day. These ended up selling for $70.00 which shocked me. Did anyone else catch this on Ebay? Do you think this was worth $70?
  20. I think it's an easy question to answer because they certainly will not drop in price. The number of cabinets that hit the landfill over time will increase the value and so will inflation assuming that the value keeps up with it. I'm with you on the CRT monitor. May I ask where you purchased yours as I am in the middle of a cabinet project myself? Lastly, on the topic of MAME - to each their own but the sight of a cabinet with the "MAME" marquee and the control panel with 50 buttons sure looks bad, IMHO. From my point of view, if you're going to put the effort into building a cabinet then make it look like the real thing. Now I'm sure I will get flamed for those comments and you can tell me all the great reasons why to build a cabinet like that but it won't sway me in the least bit. I purchase a 19" Betson Imperial monitor from a seller on Ebay named CrazyHugo. I paid $180. It looks like he may have sold them as I couldn't find him selling anymore. I'm not sure if $180 is a rip-off or fair but I was finding that ordering a new monitor was looking to be a difficult find so I settled for this. The monitor has worked well for me as I'm using it with the arcadevga card. I also agree with you when it comes to the control panel with 50 buttons. Not to knock the people who go this route (I think anyone with a Mame machine is pretty cool) but I prefer the authentic look and feel.
  21. With arcades long gone from the scene do you think that people who own arcade games (I'm referring to the real thing either stand up or cocktail) could see these become more valuable in time? I own two arcade games that I have converted into Mame games but I have maintained as much as possible the original cab. I recently discovered when I went to order a new 19" CRT arcade monitor these are no longer being manufactured. It appears CRT monitors are being replaced by LCD screens. This situation made me wonder if people looking to buy a real arcade game would pay more for one with a CRT monitor rather than a LCD screen. For me, playing pacman on a LCD screen just isn't authentic as playing it on a 19"CRT arcade monitor. Just my opinion. What do you guys think?
  22. This is an easy question. Pickup a Cuttle Cart 3 from here http://www.schells.com/cc3.shtml I would also suggest this site to compliment the Cuttle Cart http://www.beeslife.com/intvgames/cc3/cc3.php I would then focus on buying all of the Intv hardware (intellivoice, ecs computer, music keyboard). With this setup you will be able to play every game that ever came out.
  23. Funny you mention that because I too kept the losing pacman tickets. I normally don't buy these but for some reason when their video game related I seem to give it a try. I did win $5 today on the Space Invaders game.
  24. I see that Wisconsin has a $3 scratch off ticket based on Space Invaders and a $5 scratch off based on Pinball. The Space Invaders has cool artwork. I remember around two years ago both Iowa and Illinois had scratch off's based on Pacman. If I remember one of the prizes was an actual Pacman arcade game minus the coin door. Any current lottery games based on video games in your state?
