  1. For all of you out there smashing cartridges for the fun of it, why don't you all get together and form a club and you can call yourselves:

    Atari cartridge

    Smashers

    Society,

    Having

    Our

    Laughs at

    Extremely

    Senseless acts.

    :P

    ROTFL!

  2. You know scrabbler, you could probably write a book about this stuff...seriously. I could just see the title, "Lord of Atlantis" or "King of Centipede" A brief history of the games, your role in that history and stories about how you fell in love with gaming, then stories how you became a competitor and champion...I would buy it!

  3. That scan really is overly brightened too, almost completely washed out....

Here is another scan without the brightness. In my opinion the white manual is much nicer than the black one. I wonder if anyone can clear up which came first and if the white is indeed a bit more rare than the black (it seems so).

  4. Today, I was at a flea market in my area. I was walking by when I noticed a lone junior. No cords or anything. I walked up and asked how much it cost. As soon as I asked they told me about this box under the table. I grabbed it and gave them the money and fled. I tested it and everything works.

1 Atari Heavy Sixer (Great condition with all hookups)

5 controllers (all good except one, rubber fell off, fixing it now)

3 Switch boxes (two work, one is garbage.)

1 Atari junior (all hookups, great condition)

12 2600 Games(Mostly doubles, all common except for Oscar's Trash race, no kids controller.)

Instructions for all twelve of those games, 1 users guide for the six switch, 2 for the Junior, two of these and one of these. (all instructions in great shape)

    1 Keypad controller.

How much do you think I payed?

    60?

    50?

    40?

    NO!

Only 10 dollars. Yes 10. Eat that, expensive Ebay buying collectors. Taste the power of the Flea Market!

    Sweet, congrats!

  5. Greetings folks:

First post here, but I thought fellow Atari fans would enjoy reading my journey in attempting to resurrect my old Atari 2600, which had been boxed up and buried in clutter for about 15 years.

    Read the story here.

Your input would be also be appreciated.

    Thanks for your interest,

    Greg =)

Welcome to the forum. That was a cool story and a very well written article. It is just amazing you have your original Atari...I unfortunately gave mine away to a kid named Raul in the late eighties......(AAAARRGGGHH :x )

  6. I love homebrews and do not mind at all the destruction of the original game for something cool and new (and I think the lamp stuff cebus does is incredible art) but

I do not see the purpose of taking an argument from one thread and starting it again in another.....and I really see no purpose in taking a cart and destroying it for the sake of destroying it ...it's really not that funny , but that's just me.../shrug

  7. Adventure for the 2600 was for the longest time my favorite game.. I liked the multiple rooms and the quest theme in general.

I know about Adventure 2, galahad and the holy grail (8bit), but what other games were similar in gameplay and graphics to Adventure for the 2600?

Is haunted house on par with Adventure? Were there any D&D licensed games for the 2600 like there were for intellivision?

I loved Raiders of the Lost Ark and recently replayed it to its finish (again). Although adventure is a thing of beauty in its simplicity and fun (and my favorite game along with Pitfall also) Raiders had a lot more stuff to explore and figure out.

  8. I have a boxed copy of Adventure (pciture label) and I noticed my manual (white with picture label) is about to lose the first page. I went on the web and eBay and atari26600.com looking for a replacement white manual and all I found were the black ones.

Is the white manual a bit more rare than the black one ?

  9. I agree it is a lot of money but I have never seen a more complete and cleaner copy. It is what it is I guess. The value of this particular item at this particular time was $6,700.00 or it would not have gone for that.

I am not buying it for resale now or in the future so I am not concerned about it holding its value. Also it was not a question of "wanting it now" , I am buying it because I am on a quest to obtain every NTSC R10 game for the 2600 (I am sure I will never get to finish that quest but I will strive for it) and when one comes along that is as nice and complete as this one , I just could not pass it up.

At the end of the day the seller did find something incredible and was rewarded for it.

As far as the price goes , I think owning a part of Atari history that is as rare as a blue label magicard is awesome and I am happy to be the custodian of this for the next generation of video game historians.
