My top ten picks (in no particular order) are: Pitfall Adventure Missle Command Space Invaders (the multi player stuff makes this version better than any other ever produced). Demon Attack Spider Fighter Yar's Revenge Asteroids Breakout Kaboom

What's A Good Game For Joystick Testing?
Atari2600Lives replied to Captain Beard's topic in Atari 2600
Like 7800 guy said, Adventure level 1 is hard to beat. -
cool post guys. I am 42 so I was around at the dawn of Video gaming and have seen it and played it all. I own or have practically owned everything from PONG- PS3 and the 2600 will always be my favorite. It's great to see a young generation involved with the 2600.

Great responses guys...man I am so pscyhed to try an assualt my old record again..............

Ok , so I know it's not a perfect score but it's my score without any map help or anything else, just old school adventuring . I found the pic while I was clearing stuff out...thank goodness I found it because I thought my Pitfall high score was lower.

I thought I would see a lot more combat. Mine was combat.

What makes the 2600 such an icon in gaming?
Atari2600Lives replied to shadow460's topic in Atari 2600
I think it's because it was the first real system everyone remembers, that along with the cool titles and the iconic joystick really make the 2600 stand out. -
I agree with that. Defender stand up is my favorite arcade game of all time. I purchased it as soon as it came out for the 2600 and loved it. I still play it and like you said the imperfections is part of the charm.

Article: The making of Pitfall! for the Atari 2600
Atari2600Lives replied to VectorGamer's topic in Atari 2600
I'd recommend that you get "Racing the Beam" by Nick Montfort and Ian Bogost then. Theres lost of background in there about VCS games development. Nice article of my all time favorite game. -
cool article.

Thank you!

Guys I did some searches but can't find the list that was kept at the Atari Age forums that listed all known Pepsi Invader cartridges and owners. Any help appreciated.

LOL! true...I put it up for the picture, it's actually very safe. I also have a sealed Sears video arcade one as well. I am tempted to open it but will not since it could not be undone if I regret it.
-
That was one of my personal holy grails and I finally got one.
-
That makes sense, I guess I won't open it. Yes I have many, many opened systems, maybe 20 units in all. I just wanted to see a system exactly like i saw it back in the day when I opned it. I guess I won't do it because if I do it there is no turning back. I also have a sealed sears video arcade 2600 as well.

Hi everybody I have been away for quite a while. I have a sealed Atari2600 in my collection and lately I have had thoughts of opening it and making it my main playing unit. I need advice. Am I crazy? Am I destroying something for future collectors? I really am not interested in the worth of it as much as I am in possibly preserving a very cool collector's item. So money would not be an object in the decision. Here is a pic
