  1. While it's nothing new, I have noticed that more and more games are becoming multi-platform games. While this generally isn't a problem, it has me wondering if it's making it harder for consumers to decide on which systems they want.

I remember long time ago when each system had at least a few exclusives and not too many games were multi-platform. Nowadays, there's more multi-platform games than exclusives.

I think a great example of a modern exclusive would be Halo. You can only play Halo (and its sequels) on a Microsoft system (unless you count the PC version).

What do people think? Could today's systems benefit from having more exclusives?

  2. Has anyone see the joysticks with built in games featuring Dora the Explorer?

Happened to pick up one for my niece for x-mas and it turns out that her mother also picked her up one. However, the one I got her is different from the one her mother got her. The one I got her is a dedicated set of games related to fairytales while the other one features just general games.

I did consider buying an Activision unit for my niece but she's taken quite fast to the Dora games. She's already pretty smart and all she needed was a few pointers and she can play the games with no problems.

I'm hoping this will lead to more interest in videogames as she gets older. :ponder: Her father and I grew up with Atari and NES and so forth.

Anyway, anyone else have any opinions on these standalone units?

  3. From what ive read about this game i got the impression it was going to be annoying POOR like Airlock, but i got the cart today and plugged it in..perhaps a bit slow but i like it. hell, i even enjoy it,. and i dont think some of the criticism it gets is justified. Yes, it has flaws, but as a 2600 platformer i love it. How does everyone else feel?

It is challenging as hell though.

I love it. It's one of my favorite 2600 games.

  4. What a Grade A POS. Kids like that need to get a severe beating. When I screwed up, I got whooped. When most of my friends screwed up they got whooped. Simple. It doesn't make someone maladjusted or anything. Kids should be treated as second rate, then they'll understand respect, and value their individual freedoms and understand what responsibilty means later in life. I mean kids DON'T understand much of how the world works. Now you don't have to always play by "their" rules, but you certainly can't get by acting senseless and spoiled.

Guess I just don't like kids.

Jesus Christ, they just arrested him for OPENING a fucking present.

What sewer did you crawl out of, spawn of Hitler?

  5. EB/GameStop, in my experience is like every other store - many of the employees are idiots and assholes, few are not. When I go to the local EB, I try deliberately to get the employees I like. You won't believe this but I actually had an employee talk me OUT of buying a used copy of Donkey Konga, when he realized I could get it cheaper new with bongos than I could by purchasing a used game and used bongos.

Only reason to buy used games from there is if it's out of print or hard to find. New games I buy used off of GameFly. I have never had any problems with their games, the boxes and manuals are all top-notch, it looks like they resurface them before shipping, and the best part, is that a the price of a used game is usually 50% of new within ONE MONTH of release. Not five or ten dollars cheaper, but HALF PRICE. THAT'S how to sell used games.

EB/Gamestop sucks ass around here, man. There's 1 in S.Burl, 1 in Burl and 1 in Williston. All 3 suck donkey nuts. The one in S.Burl is full of stuck up clerks.

  6.

Apparently, so am I. I figured 2.5 years of self-imposed exile was enough. So, what'd I miss around here?

    <looks around>

Hmmm... somebody moved the fern. Looks good over in the corner now.

You do know the Contest forum and contests around here have gone to hell in a handbasket since you left :P

Yeah. He always had the best contests.

  7. So basically the game companies want to let 10 year old enjoy raping girls, jacking cars, and blowing away enemies?

I still think there should be some limit. At least put age restriction and make it a felony to rent or sell to minor the same way cigs and booze are illegal to underage.

I know there's been studies done before to show (or disprove) connection between violent video game and violent lifestyle but I'd still prefer to limit it.

Why should the rental clerk play the role of a parent? Blame it on the parents for letting their kids play/rent violent games in the first place!

There should not be a law that punishes people who abide by the rules just because of what Jack Thompson wants.
