  1. I just installed my MODE in my Saturn last night (came from SAG). Works fine, but I have been busy since then with other things. I'd like to get this system working better with the OSSC. There are some artifacts that show up with the Framemesister (it's noise in the analogue signal) that do not show up with the OSSC. Something is just ever so off with sync on the OSSC though, and the aspect ratio is off (too wide).
  2. That director's cut is the one that was released for the HD version for the PS3, right? I remember playing the regular version on the GameCube. Was one of my favorites back then. I just started Tales of Xillia. While I there are things that I like so far, such as the battle system, I was reminded about how spoiled we are with some of the recent anime and game dubs (My Hero Academia, Promised Neverland, Persona 5, Final Fantasy 15 as examples). Milla sounds like a robot. Can't say I care for the male character's voice acting either. I'll see if there is a way to turn the voice acting off and just read like the good old days.
  3. I could be wrong, but I think bilinear filtering refers to smoothing which some people like while other prefer the sharp pixels. Horizontal interpolation is what something like the Retro USB AVS has. It cuts down on pixel shimmering. So this release of Fire Emblem is going to have shimmering? Ugh....
  4. I know that is coming to the States until 2021... don't know if we are getting a LE or not (maybe just a digital here?)
  5. Just finished Persona 4 Golden for the Vita (PS TV actually). I played it with the Sharpscale plugin and 720P texture pack (games is too slow with the 1080P pack). Not really sure what to play next. I feel like I could use a string of shorter games, but with being tired and overworked, my patience will be thin with things like platformers and arcade type games.
  6. Every get yourself through a  long rpg and find yourself at a loss of what to play?

Wait a minute!  I just read it was also on Midway Arcade Treasures 3 for PS2.  (I never realized..I even have that game).  Wikipedia says it's the Dreamcast version!  But alas!  No Japanese release.  Do you have a North American PS2?   Just a thought...Anyway I found a video of the PS 2 Stunt Mode and it looks about like Dreamcast's!  Yay!  I still recommend this game to you both!  Cheers!

Not with me (it's in the USA), but I do have a US PS3 that I could use. I need to thermal paste it. It runs very loudly and I'm very hesitant to use it.

My BC PS3 needs some work as well. It runs okay, but mine is loud too. I've just left it alone until I get around to it. I should do that soon because really to get rid of that empty feeling, I should replay Persona 3.

  7. Well, I guess one thing this new product will do is fire up more interest in a console that is under rated, and that is not a bad thing. Perhaps we can get a subform ? ? Maybe not so good news for us trying to actually buy some games. I am sure regular games will shoot up in price even more now.
  8. I feel the same way. Will a turbo everdrive fit? Can it read CD-Rs as I am sure there are people that will want to keep their original disc safe on the shelf? (okay... yes, I know why many want it to read CDRs, but last point is still valid). If they are going to do a limited release with a wave1 only, I'll be fine with what I have (which I have less time for anyway).
  9. That multi-card would be a nice idea. If some game that is hard to find and expensive is licensed to be included with Analogue's Duo, that might change some minds. I certainly hope they do other than to rely only on "limited release".
  10. I think I will taking a pass on Analogue's Duo and just stick with original hardware. I would have liked them to have included the expansion port similar to what was done for the Mega SG, but they included a working CD drive this time, I can see why it was left out. I'd like to get a Coregrafx at some point, get it into good shape and go with that. At one point, I wanted a SuperGrafx, but those prices have been pushed to insanity, and I can live without the five games.
  11. If one managed to get a Pocket, I can see how the adapter is exciting news to fans. I am more interested in the wireless controller.
  12. As x=user(1536) said, a Pi 4 is one option. In the locked thread, there were some links to some mini pcs for around the same money as the atacobox or less that will probably fit the bill.
  13. If you have an Xbox One, passing the signal through that might help as I am sure the Framemeister will probably introduce some lag (though I can't seem to find any solid numbers when it is just passing though a digital signal).
  14. Just to toss this out there, My Life in Gaming released a video about GB screen mods if you want to get into that thing.
  15. I have the same issue with space. That Golden Axe one is tempting, but I have no place it put it.
  16. You might want to think about some sort of liquid cooling solution for that PS3.
  17. I just watched it... good intro on how to use it. Step #1... updating the firmware assuming I can find a suitable micro SD card. There has got to be one hidden in the carpet somewhere....
  18. I was trying not too spend money but caved in. Went the Best Buy route as I had store credit that covered a good chunk of it.
  19. I haven't really tried to have the OSSC pass through a Framemeister to let it (the FM) do the processing. I've only passed the signal through to get the upper line doubling modes to work with my Elgato HD 60. I have meant to post more here... but time hasn't been on my side.
  20. So like the Retrofreak but one cart connector per module. How innovative..
  21. I had an older revision of the SSDS3, sold that, and got the new one (revision B). I can vouch for the fact that the audio is definitely improved. The only issue that seems to remain is the noise made during SD card access, especially through my sound bar. It can be quite annoying. If I reroute the audio to a more basic pair of speakers, it is much more tolerable. I didn't notice how the audio can get out of sync due to that seek time issue. I believe it exists though, and I am not going to go looking for it. Sounds like the UperGrafx is great for the hardcore fan. At that price and the limited time I have for messing around, it is probably not for me though. I wish TerraOnion would do some more firmware updates to fix some remaining issues. Could they fix the seek time issue if they wanted to? (I don't know the answer). I wonder if they have washed their hands of this product... They really need to stop advertising the ability to do an in game reset. I know they gave reasons why it will never be reliable. That's fine... but just pull it and stop advertising it as a feature.
  22. Well, The Mode is on pre-order at SAG. I ordered one today, and it looks like a wait until October (though more of a delay would not surprise me). Not a big deal as I have enough stuff as it is. Apparently, SAG did not get any from Terra Onion's first run. I don't know a thing about the reasons.
  23. Interesting point about the FM zoom feature and the Game Boy Player. I'll have to give that a try just to see how well it looks.
  24. I've needed some time to post to this thread. With all of the options out there, I'd like to see it continue. If one has been at this for awhile, this topic isn't so confusing. For a new person, it is helpful to know as much as possible to see if a cheap solution is good enough, or if a more costly one is better; I know many of us fall into the latter category, and I don't have much experience with the more inexpensive solutions. My two main work horses are the XRGB Mini (Framemeister) and the OSSC. This a quick summery of my pluses and minuses: Framemeister: - Pluses: - With the profiles that are out there, it is relatively easy to get up and running these days - Compatible with more capture devices including the Elgato HD 60s - has composite and s-video connections - also has and HDMI pass through option (480p can get upscaled to 1080p) - I don't hear to much about TV compatibility issues (though honestly, I haven't looked) - HDMI pass through can sometimes fix output from an OSSC that normally would not work with a certain TV or capture device - audio input is very straight forward - Cons: - Expensive and out of production. Likely not an alternative for most unless you have one already - Crushes colors and grays on all inputs except the HDMI pass through (color bar test on 240p test suite). - Definitely produces a picture with more noise especially with the RGB input (note: cables are usually from Retro access or retro gaming cables... no cheap stuff). - very slow with 240p to 480i transitions - adds lag in top of what the display has already (may not matter as much if one has a good display with low latency and one plays games that don't require a quick response) - signal from remote can be slow and sometimes unresponsive OSSC: Pluses: - Much more affordable and has been more readily available from videogameperfection.com in more recent times - When it works well with your display, video from RGB outputting sources blows the Framemeister out of the water when it comes to analog noise and picture clarity - Does not crush colors and greys like the Framemeister does. - May be a better open when using component video sources than the Framemeister (what I always read is the D-term input and conversion of video on Framemesiter sucks, but I cannot confirm). - no issues with the remote - As a line doubler, it does not add much if any lag (I trust Bob from retroRGB on this). Cons: - Can be finicky with displays and capture devices. Some will not work or may not work with more than line double mode. There are lists out there, but it can still be a crap shoot - Can require more fiddling with settings and timing to get it to work right. This can be display dependent. Settings don't really need to be mess around with on my 4K gaming monitor, but forget about my 1080p display. - audio input will likely require an adapter if one uses anything other than the SCART input - no S-video or composite video input (I guess the new pro model will have these, but that has been delayed). - although there is now a basic on screen display, the Framemeister wins in this category How I use them: For the TG16 plus SSDS3, 100% OSSC. I have revision B of this device, and with the Framemeister, there is a fair amount of noise added with the RGB input (I am not referring to jail bars). These appear as faint diagonal lines across the screen. There have been plenty of other reports about this. The colors are crushed, and frankly, it (the picture) does not look good. If I use the composite input, those lines go away, but then there is noise associated with the fact that one is using composite. I have also tried the HD retrovision cables with the d-term input. While that input is relatively noise free, the colors are really crushed. With the OSSC plus high quality SCART, I get little noise, and it looks great on my 4k display. I also tend to use the OSSC with the Genesis (SCART or HD retrovision). While the noise issues are not as apparent, I still get better results with the Framemeister. With my PS One, I can go either way. For the SNES, I tend to use the Framemeister as it seems to be somewhat more reliable with picture stability, but I need to research this some more (not a high priority). My Game Cube has an HDMI mod, and I tend to use the HDMI passthrough to scale the image up further. Some games like Mario Kart Double Dash and F-Zero GX look really good with this setup. For my N64, the framemeister is my only choice as my N64 is not modded. I use the s-video input with a Retro Access cable. The cheap s-video cable I had introduced a lot of noise, and the Retro access cable gives a much better picture. Still, the picture still is not that great. I have wondered if the Retrotink Pro with it's filter would give a better result, but I don't play the N64 often enough to justify what is likely a one trick pony device for me. As for capture, I only have a laptop and an Elgato HD60, so Framemeister it is. For example, I can't get anything more than line double mode to work with the OSSC with the TG16. I haven't tried everything I have owned. That said, on a hunch, I tried hooking up the OSSC to the Framemeister's HDMI input, and it did resolve issues with one display, and I can go up to 4x line double with the Elgato by using this daisy chain. Someone posted once that they did something similar with the Xbox One's HDMI pass through. With my TG16+ SSDS3, I was able to get 5X line double to work through my Elgato. I speculate that maybe the Framemeister and Xbox One HDMI passthroughs might be doing something to fix the signal coming out of the OSSC to make more options available that might not work with the OSSC alone. The Framemeister's HDMI's passthrough does not crush the colors like the other inputs do (more speculation... likely the ADC chip in the Framemeister is causing all of this bad color crushing). I do hesitate to suggest as a solution to people though. I may just be lucky with my displays, etc where this pass through works, and I can't guarantee it will work with someone else's setups. In talking to people online, it seems like some of the issues may be set up dependent. I also wish I knew more about what the HDMI input does on the Framemeister. Does it add lag or cause other problems I don't know about. I haven't seen much online that reports anything definitive, but maybe I haven't found it. It is also possible that there might be cheaper HDMI passthrough solution that might work for someone that is struggling with the OSSC; I only used the Framemeister because I already had one. Whew... that is probably one of my longest posts here.
  25. I just watched that, and what he says near the end sums up my own opinion about this thing all along. Why do we need this, and what problem is it trying to solve? Chances are, someone that already has a library of games probably has found solutions to OEM or has everything on a PC already. $400+$80 per module is pretty steep too.
