I'm defiantly going to get that just for playing Yars Revenge on a pocket TV. And I'll be sure to tear it apart to see how it works but I suspect it may be like the Activision 10-in-1... a big blob of eproxy covering the main chip and no means of hacking it to load 2600 carts.
Anyone notice that Fuji logo looked like the top part got caught in a vise? Bleech!
If I had a choice about replacing those 3 paddle games, I'd start with Combat and Air-Sea Battle (they're a staple for every 2600 owner no matter how sucky they are) and Berzerk

My room's about the size of a one car garage and it has damn near everything in it. I'd take some picture but no one makes a super wide angle lens wide enough for my room.
I should take a shot of my favorite piece: a revolving rack that holds all loose controllers. (it was lifted from a Toys R Us a decade ago) -
Hmmm... Just my guess:
Crazy Climber
Quadran
Swordquest: Waterworld
Video Cube
Prize:
BMX Airmaster
Motorodeo

If you take a look at all 20+ games beginning with 'A' for example, you'll quickly realize that there's only "Acid Drop" & "A-Team" worth ripping.
It's really less than 10% of the complete library that has tunes worth ripping.
So we're still looking at about 50 2600 games that are worth ripping?
And about the Pitfall 2 thing, I think it'd be possible to rip the tunes as the extra chip was created to allow more sound channels on a 2600. Dump the video and sound effect and I think the plain BGM can be played without the extra chip.

....or switch to a real format. NTSC!DOWN WITH PAL!
Oh, I'm so sorry for using a higher resolution picture format with better colour encoding...

You DO realise that NTSC stands for "Never Twice the Same Colour" don't you?

This is why FCC is trying to ram down HDTV standard within the next few years. knocking NTSC off permantly.
I hadn't thought of it but has anyone ever tried hooking up Atari 2600 to any HDTV (via NTSC converter)? 2600 is rather flaky at times and some newer TVs often had trouble handling 2600. I think I will pay someone to come and install the HDTV as I have confusing setup in my room to begin with. 15 consoles + VCR + DVD + antenna + satellite all to one TV via 3 switch boxes. I'll bet even the CIA would have a hard time.
And to add insults, I'll make sure to test with my *ahem* alleged NTSC version of Solaris that rolls on all NTSC TV. And should the tech suggest a different 2600 console, I have about 20 of them so he'd have a hard time blaming all of my 2600 console for not "working"
Anyway I hope HDTV is more forgiving than some newer TVs.

I discovered today that if your partner goes alone and it is the last hand of the game, your hand is still shown during the color-cycling attract mode.I never bothered with clearing out the human player's hand if his/her partner goes alone, so it already still shows when the "D" (deal) indicator appears.
What do you out there think? Would you consider not having your cards cleared at the end of the hand a bug?
Well, I don't think it's really a bug as in real life the player who sits out of the game still holds the card. If you want, you could include a little feature that with difficulity switch setting lets you keep the cards or hide them.

And how would you play the music from Pitfall II? That game probably has the most advanced BGM of any 2600 titles due to extra chip.
-
How about Euchre? I'd love to order that one soon. And after accidently blowing up my Supercharger, I've been stuck to using emulator with SNES knockoff gamepad
I want the real 2600 joystick in my hand.

Christmas '78, Tele-Sears machine with 2 more games added: Tank Plus and Circus.
Got Pac Man and Space Invader the following Easter (I think...)

Sorry but I wouldn't even try Archon on a 2600. We all know how well 2600 plays straight chess, and archine is a bit more complicated than chess.
I'd start withy 7800 as it has more RAM, can access to 32K without banking and there's plenety of docs so you can easily program Archon 7800 up to 1Mbit if needed.
It's too bad there isn't an easy way to port NES version of Archon directly to 7800.

To find Gremlins, you must look in dry, dark places. They don't like light and if they get wet, they multiply. And you don't even want to know what happens if they eat after midnight.
Cap
Then drop your Gremlins in a swimming pool and you can have thousands copy of Gremlins to sell. Retire off of those.

ok... i know... i know... this should be in off topic but im afraid it will not get seen there so hear we go anywayI didn't see 'Atari only' rule anywhere.
ok i just bought a sega master system hookups 2 controllers light phazer and like 12 games and he threw in a nes with 8 games 2 controllers gun and hook ups for freeVery nice.
i got home and checked and the master system does work when i turn it on i get two games (im gessiung there built in???) i played both there pretty good but then i tried to put in one of my games and i still only get the option of playing the built in games but not the one i put in whats with that????Like someone said, trry cleaning the game contact. If SMS can't detect a game cart, it will automatically play the built in game.
oh yes and one other thing whas the chip slot for????and whats it do???
In addition to SMS card games, it can also be used with Sega 3D glasses for 3D games.
oh and last but not least does anybody know any good webpages on the sega master system???http://www.smspower.org/ A good everything in one site.
Also http://www.gamefaqs.com for 411 on some games.

I could try and check the PAL version for correct color. I'd have to find the 2600 I have that has AV out, hook it to my PC with TV card (for some reason ATI TV Wondoer never works with 2600 on RF, only on AV
), set the input to PAL and try it out.It may work, it may not as I think the color carrier freqency in the 2600 is fixed to NTSC frequency and probably won't show up on PAL video.

My stuff is available for sale, and $10 for the GBC is quite cheap so you should go get it if you don't need anything else.

Anyway when I find my desoldering braid I'm going to get started on my 7800 EPROM board conversion. I'll start with 28 pin socket as 1MB ROM (128K actually) probably won't come often at all.Actually, close to half of the 7800 games are 128K. You may want to consider that when you build it.
Not when you have most of the 128K games. Actually I was refering to future homebrewn 7800 games. It takes a lot of work to code a few K's let alone 128K. That plus you'd need to figure out the bankswitching scheme for large games. (I think 32K is the max 7800 can address w/o bankswitching)
Hypothical question: can 7800 handle 256K or even 512K games? NES games were originally a few K's max (32K IIRC) and with an advanced bakswitcvhing chip called MMC, games up to 8Mbit was possible (1Mbyte) and NES could possibly have had bigger games if developers continued to create games for NES.

People are known to pay over $5 for a Combat just because he/she didn't have that particular label variation.
You better start praying your wallet never goes empty at an inconvenient time. I once had to pass up a boxed NES, boxed ROB, CIB Gyromite and 20 other boxed NES games simply because I didn't have $100 back then. And no the ATM machine wouldn't be of any help because I *didn't* have $100.

I don't know about you but I also have a GBC that's gathering dust since I got a GBA. With the GBC I have (Atomic Purple) plus I have the an add on vibrator/stereo sound/rechargeable batteries in a pack and I think I also have a Mad Catz magnifier.
I also have a Game Shark for GB Pocker/Color that includes the special Parallel link cable for download/uploading saved games and codes. I haven't used that for a long time either.
I've tried to get rid of my CGB but the best I got was $25 for the whole lot. Ever since GBA came out, older GBs haven't been too popular except with those who just can't afford the newest stuff.

That looks cool and rather hard to make in small space. I do have a number of spare ATA-100 cables (80 conductors) to use so small wires shouldn't be a problem.
I assume with the exception of a few wiring differences (as mentioned in earlier post) all wires are straight through? And where did you find that small PCB board with socket pins? From wire wrapping socket?
Anyway when I find my desoldering braid I'm going to get started on my 7800 EPROM board conversion. I'll start with 28 pin socket as 1MB ROM (128K actually) probably won't come often at all.

I don't see companies hyping up their bits nowdays. They are now hyping the number of polygons and how many millions can be rendered per seconds.
Nevermind that their ads isn't making me decide to go with the "better" system. It's the game progrmamer that can make or break a system.
Take for example the last 8 bit console: Gameboy. It survived well for almost as long as 2600 did because there were many great games for it, it's cheap, and last a long time on batteries.
(PS I'm not getting XBox because it doesn't have any game beside Halo that would win me over. Same with PS2. That leaves the GC that has many games I like and many games expected soon that I would like.

It's funny. It's not like Parker Bros. didn't promote the game either. I remember seeing a TV commercial for it as a kid.Did that commercial involve zapping one of the 2 kids into the TV and became one in the game while the other kid looks on the TV screen with amazement?
I remember wanting that game long ago because of that. I thought the game would put me *in* the game as advertised. Hey I was only like 7 or 8 then.

Another factor: I'm deaf and I depend on teletypewriter to communicate over phones so recieving offers would be hard. Maybe using email address and psotal address instead of phone number...
Impmon, I never would have guessed that. I don't think you've mentioned it on RGVC either, at least since the time I first joined the scene. I hope this question won't bother you, but since you brought it up I'm dying to know: how does being deaf effect your gameplay? For example, when I'm playing Asteroids I'm always cued to the arrival of the UFO +before+ I see it by it's distinctive alarm, because I'm usually too busy shooting rocks to notice it floating onto the screen. I'm sure there are other better examples but curiosity is killing my cat; I hope you don't mind or will forgive me if you do.
Deafness does affect gameplay a little but harly at all. Actually I don't depend on sound cue to tell me when something's about to come up. I mentioned in programmer's thread about the Skeleton game using sound and pointed out a compass would have belped me since I wouldn't be able to tell where the skeleton was.
Another example where following sound was important to game play was in Zelda 64: Ocarinia of Time. You had to follow the sound through the Lost Woods to find someone. I had to use the Gamefaqs.com to find the path.
(Nintendo loses a point for not making the game compatible with hard of hearing) Good thing the Lost Wood isn't random but rather fixed or I would have never finished the game.Other than that, I'm more of visual only gamer. Heck, my TV's sound is off most of the time as I use the closed captioning whenever it's available.
If you have any other question, ask away. It's hard to offend me and I'd rather help fight ignorances and myths about handicaps than to chew someone out for asking such question. The old saying goes.. the only stupid question is the one not asked at all.

I'd love to try this myself except I live on a farm and I see maybe 10 cars a day go by my house. Defiantly a slow sale. Maybe I should try posting on a community bulliten board in a few nearby villages.

That would have been cool but I don't think Atari/Infograme owned the trademark on all of the games. Space Invader would still belong to Taito, Mario Bros to Nintendo, and Ms. Pac Man to Namco. Just FYI.
