  1. The current rumor (empathesis on rumor) is M$ is going to buy Rare, not the other way around. M$ itself is so big almost no other company can buy them out.
  2. ...before I lost the first life. I could never get past 1K before. It seems using plain joystick (any kind) isn't really good when compared to using a trackball. I didn't have an Atari version but I had Sega Sportspad trackball with joystick emulation mode switch. Turn the joystick mode on and it plays games like Centipede and even Reactor well. Just a FYI if you have a Sega Sportspad controller. If I can find my Missle Command, Centipede and Millipede, I'm about to really enjoy the near arcade gameplay. (PS anyone care to hack Kaboom for joystick use? Might do as well on trackball as Kaboom does on paddles.)
  3. I had a myth from years ago that if you play Smurf Rescue in Gargamel's Castle, you can make the Smurfette do the striptease. Wasn't until about 2 or 3 years ago when I found it was true but only on a Colecovision and not on a 2600 as someone lead me to believe. Also someone was telling me about getting a strange lettering in Yars Revenge but no one could reproduce it. Today I could probably demonstrate that elusive "strange letterings" on the first try. Another myth that was never proven: playing your Atari 2600 would raise your electric bill by a lot. For goodnes' sake, an Atari 2600 even if left on full time would probably take about the same amount of electricity as a night light bulb. (about 4.5 watts or about 3.2Kw per month which is about 30 cents total depending on electricity rate) XBox... that's another matter though as I suspect it sucks more electricity than a vintage TV.
  4. Do you want emulator screenshot or crappy looking screenshot off an actual Atari 2600. if it's latter, you have a choice of capture via RF cable (really bad, doesn't work well with TV Wonder card ), via AV mod (probably looks better), capture from TV with cheap camera and scanner, a good digital camera, or a cheap web cam. Or maybe I could quietly email you the Dragonstomper game although I doubt Cyberpunk would like that.
  5. I also found it interesting that every bidder who had bids retracted their bids. The seller didn't cancel a single bid.
  6. This web site has everything! Funny I don't see a 2600 game called 'kitchen sink'...
  7. LOL! That could be true but I doubt flexibrat was bright enough to sell the fake prototypes without the cart case like the auction. Another tip off: real prototype don't have the metal plate soldered in place like the picture. It'd be a real bitch to change the chip. Another thing: there seems to be quite a variety of prototype games, all of them looking the same. AFAIK this would be extremely unusual since not all of the game are made by one company and I believe Atari is the only one that used metal plate over the chip. Lastly, I don't think EPROM can be used directly into 2600 without an inverter chip. You guessed it, no inverter chip on any of the alleged auction picture. Nice try but no cigar. I'm tempted to make a fake eBay account for the sole purpose of keeping unwarry ebay bidders away by bidding insane amount on all of them at the last minute. (last minute so the seller won't have a chance to cancel the bids, and insane amount could be as high as $14,999.99 as allowed by eBay without credit card info on file.)
  8. Well, what did you expect? Flesh Gordon is a parody of Flash, and for all we know, Flesh Gordon game could have been a hack of Flash Gordon. Anyone care to try and hack the Flash Gordon for this?
  9. I just wish the DIY multigame plan would work with NES game. There must be at least 50 different bankswitching methods from none to few off the shelf logic gates to MMC chips. It'd probably be easier to build a multi-CD with NES emulator on it.
  10. AFAIK the System Changer can only work on Intellivision 2 but it can be used on any other Intellivision if you perform a mod on the Intellivision console. The biggest PITA step is removing the RF shield which are often welded onto the mainboard. The details for the mod is somewhere on Blue Sky Ranger site. Basically it's a minor rewiring of the cart port to allow video passthrough trom the changer to the RF block. Any claims you've heard about chip upgradfe is a fake, it's probably a change of the chip to lock out Coleco games. (like the Inty 2 does)
  11. Phantom- Ha-ha. I have a Joust game with the P on the end label but it play fine on my NTSC TV (even though the copy of Solaris I have don't) I suspect mixed up end label could have been the reason some NTSC carts have P on the end label while some Solaris don't. Another evidence of Atari's QC (or lack of)
  12. I was playing with my Supercharger as I got ready to do a mod on it when a lightening struck me. What if someone were to... Get a VCSp... Hardwire in the Cuttle cart... Add in a portable MP3 player? One could have a portable 2600 system that plays everything but the kitchen sink. And most MP3 players can easily be interfaced with the PC so new games can be added quickly. Now if only I had the money when Cuttle cart were available.
  13. Are you sure? The rumor I heard was their only working copy machine broke down and no one was around to fix it. This happened right after someone (who obviously had too much coffee) accidently pressed 10,000,000 when copying ET carts instead of 10,000
  14. Sega Master System controller pad is almost exactly rhe same size and style as the NES pad plus SMS pad can be used on just about any systems that can use Atari controller. Of course if you meant the NES dogbone shaped controller...
  15. Nonono you got it all wrong! What they really do is sacrifice a virgin to Bira-bira. If the alleged programmer was very good, then he will find a prototype under his pillow one morning. With the prototype, the alleged programmer can then feed it in a special copy machine that has loads of blank carts and run the machine for production carts. This is how games were made.
  16. That means my Supercharger is not at fault for the rolling display.
  17. I think I found another bug, possibly a missing delay cycle. When you pass the first round, The arrow points down (you) with the letter P for about half a sec before turning to the next player. But in the second round, there's no delay at all, the arrow points to the player to the left right away. Just thought I'd point that out as it would improve the consistencity of the game if that was fixed. Also earlier in this thread you said you had to squish the suit symbols to 6 bytes rather than the 8 bytes, yet you also mentioned there's about 50 bytes left. Why not change the suit to a full 8 byte each so we'd get a better looking club and a diamond that doesn't look like an oval?
  18. Thanks for your suggestion and advices. I think I'll start with the 5200 since it sports higher resolution than 2600 ever will. Maybe try out that new 5200 BASIC compiler. Another question would be the proper way to start a new game. I'm thinking that I should code in what I want in a new game and not worry about graphics or sound until last. But I'm wondering how do you start on new games? (PS I'll probably need help with the sound as I am deaf)
  19. I just tried to play them on an unmodified Supercharger on my Darth Vader 2600 to a NTSC TV. The title screen rolls but the gameplay is OK. A problem with unmodified Starpath? A slight bug in the title screen code? FWIW I got the game ROM through Stella list.
  20. Oh it gets worse with Radio Shack. There's een a site just for Radio Shack: http://www.radioshacksucks.com/
  21. Yes but red label Solaris with B&W picture do exists in NTSC form. I have 1, maybe 2 NTSC version along with 1 PAL Solaris. I did notice a difference: the NTSC version's end label is the same dull red as the main label but the PAL version the end label is a shade brighter and more red. I wonder if this is true for all other Solaris? I wonder how many mislabeled Solaris got returned and/or destroyed? I'd bet there's a million mislabeled Solaris buried in the landfill right on top of those ET carts.
  22. When playing PAL games on NTSC TV, the picture rolls roughly 5-6 times per seconds. Adjusting the V-Hold may help but not all TV has the V-Hold these day. I also noticed the lack of color on PAL version of Solaris as well.
  23. I'd love to try for Lynx but it's hard to test a homebrewn game since Lynx cart isn't something you can hack to add an EPROM. I think I'll try and see what the 5200's like. PS how many Eric's are there on this forum? My name happens to be Eric as well.
  24. Car Wars for the TI-99/4a computer as well.
  25. I also got this PAL in NTSC bug. Some years ago, I found a number of 2600 games new at a dollar store. One of them was Solaris. But that game rolled even though all other games played fine.
