  1. I just played some Frogger and Pitfall, your right it must be MR.Do is just a little harder to control. However it does glitch every now and then I opened the joy stick up, and for those of you not familiar with the slick stick it uses a metal ball attached to the bottom of the joy stick which when moved touches a metal tab in the base for eather left right up or down. Someone packed the opening down there with grease, should there be all that grease I'm guessing to prevent corosion or was this just someones hair brained scheme?

  2. Hi,

I grew up a little to late to have an Atari when they were new I had an NES, and as I got older I played all the Atari games on my PC using PCAE. Finally about a year ago I bought an Atari at a flea market for 10 bucks with 2 controllers, games and the Atari holder. I was home sick from school today and decided to play some Atari. Since Ive had it I never really played it for more then 10 or 15 mins. Because I had time I played for a few hours, and up till today I never really noticed how much lag there was when I move my controller and also that the characters don't always respond, it that normal? I was playing MR.Do! and I noticed Id go straight up and then try to move left or right real fast and he wouldn't always do it or he'd go up a little more then go left or right. I had the same reaction with both the original Atari sticks, and my Waco Slik Stik I bought off eBay. Is there a fix I can use to make the system respond faster? I thought about maybe replacing the metal tabs in the Slik Stik with micro switches to see if i could get a better response anyone ever try that?

  3. My CX-40 sticks are shot and I'm awaiting the rebuild kit from bests electronics, In the mean time Ive been searching eBay and I'm wondering whats a very good 3rd party joystick. I never had an Atari growing up I had NES, is there a stick thats a little more like the NES Advantage. Mine don't always go the way I point them and don't seem to shoot all the time, is that normal. I also tried 7800 sticks and absolutely hated them, the bend on the stick made it hard to get motion in all directions. What ever side it tilted to was harder to use. I keep hearing the Wico sticks were good, I came across a few of them and also some Atari Gem Sticks, also some Slik Stiks, whats everyone else's recommendations?

  4. The whole thing Im worried about is if I buy 2 other sticks off EBay how long before I'm in the same boat all over again, we are dealing with 30 year old technology. Out of curiosity does anyone know if the flashback 2 controllers will work on it? I saw a post fro ma guy who modded them to look like the Tron arcade ones, and they use a more modern set up inside, not to mention they still look just like the old Atari ones. Also does anyone know where a thrift store that has Atari stuff is in NJ I can never find them?

  5. Ine you guys dont know what I am looking for, I want to rebuild my controllers. I remember on my NES they sold a kit with new buttons and new rubber pieces so you could pretty much rebuild the entire controller the only things retained were the case, wire, and circuit board, do they make one for the Atari Joy sticks?

  6. I got my Atari working about 20 mins ago, but now the controllers arent really responding right. Some times one controller wont go right, plus the fire bitton doesnt always work and on the other one the firebutton doesnt work at all. I took the one that wont fire at all apart and the spring for the fire button is missing and so is the peg it mounts to. Is there a fix for this they are the standard square 2600 4 switch joysticks.

  7. Cut the plug off an old cordless phone that ended up being 9vdc and 500ma exactly, so it worked out pretty well. Oddly enough the power supply was gone not a torn wire.

  8. I work at the Meadowlands in NJ, after the flea market they have, people tend to leave stuff behind if it doesnt sell. Being the nut I am I was digging threw some stuff, and found a 6 switch Atari 2600 the RF cable was cut so I opened it up and replaced it. When I opened it I found a piece of paper taped to the metal box in there saying Mar. 4 1981, the plugs are on the bottom part of the case for the controlers and power adapter, and it seems heavier then my 4 switch, also the trim around the switches seems more yellow then on my 4 switch, The board on it says rev.B and copyrite 77. I read on the hardware section of the site the 6 switch was changed in 1980 to a 4 switch. The serial no. is 81255760, and the model no. is CX-2600. Is this some kind of weird one or just a run of the mill 6 switch? O and i lost one of the round foam discs that go on the switches are they very important?

  9. Hi,

I took out my 2600 today after not playing it for 2 months and the power supply is not working, is there any other power supply from another system that I can hack the end off of and solder the Atari plug on. Or am I better off buying a universal one from Radio Shack? Also Does anyone have a few spare originals I have another 2600 that I got with no power supply and I was thinking of putting that down stairs in the game room.

  10. I have several complete cases just laying around.

You could have one for the cost of shipping.

Awesome thank you, I go on vacation today so as soon as I get back home I will send you a PM and pay you.

  11. Hi,

I made the mistake of bringing my 7800 over to my uncles house to show my 5 and 7 year old cousins, one of them knocked it over onto the tile floor. Now the bottom is smashed and the tv connection is fuzzy if I jiggle the rca its clear for a little and then it comes back, so I figure its a good excuse to convert to composite and see how it works. What I am looking for is a good bottom of the case, its so busted I cant glue it. Does anyone have a spare one from a busted system?

  12. I'm going to be honest I absolutely hate the controllers that come with the 7800 they seem way to hard to control, especially because of the slight bend in the joystick, the NES Advantage joystick controlled games much better and had rapid fire. Of course the 2600 joysticks were my favorite.
