  1. Well that was a bit better.  I might keep trying to finish the PRO Challenge but I figured at worst I can log a score in everything now.  On NTSC

    1 LAP SERIES

    Malibu Grand Prix: 27750 & 58"67

    Namco Speedway: 27000 & 62"31

    Atari Grand Prix: 24600 & 61"49

    2 LAP SERIES

    Malibu Grand Prix: 38300 & 116”21

    Namco Speedway: 36750 & 116”72

    Atari Grand Prix: 33600 & 125”86

    8 LAP PRO CHALLENGE

Thanks carlsson, yes NTSC players just use the regular Pole Position from Atari or Datasoft.

The score adjustments were only end of race, it would be too much complexity to work out per lap, will study your report in more detail later

Oops. Yeah I did play the NTSC version on that atr image but I'll go back to my Atari dunno

  3. OK, I've yet to make it through all 3 races in the '2 lap' challenge without running out of time, but I thought I'd post my 1 lap results (I played the Marius version if it matters):

    64"88

    66"63

    69"36

I will hopefully find the time this weekend to put more serious time into this, but have to admit I've never been a fan of the game so my motivation is low.  Okay maybe that's not entirely true, I probably played it a lot when I first got it.  But now it drives me crazy that we can't just finish a lap in whatever length of time it takes us, we have to beat the timer (which is an arcade feature to earn quarters, not something needed on a console game).

I guess for the most part I'm no longer a fan of the arcade ports.  Not that they're not good games, I just feel like today I can play the actual arcade versions if I want to.

  4. I was just about to confirm that the Marius NTSC version isn't supposed to have a purple sky, and I see Deteacher has posted scores with the same blue sky I see.

As an NTSC player I'm curious if it makes it 'easier' for us in addition to the PAL version making it 'harder'?  Or am I just confused (again :) )

  5. How does the scoring work on Super Bunny?  I just had a run where I managed to clear all of the animals on the first level and after the screen resets my score was... still 0?!?  Somehow even that game ended at 200 points, after I got the carrot that wasn't on the 'bottom' of the platform.

I know I've played this before, unlike Chuckie Egg.  Was this a HSC game like forever ago?  Or did I actually play this in mid 80s?

EDIT: I decided to try another version (atarimania) and now I'm actually scoring points as I go.  I had downloaded the colour version from fandal originally, so there must be some sort of bug with it or something.  So for those inclined, I suggest the Atarimania version.

    New best:  825  955

  6. So far:  39,490 on Chuckie Egg.  Haven't tried Super Bunny.

Although this won't become something I go back to often I do prefer games like this over the arcade ports, as I find the original stuff more interesting personally.

I know I can do a *lot* better on Chuckie Egg, just wanted to get a score in there, make sure you know I'm still in this :)

  7. Not much higher but higher. 29580

Great first screen score though.  Managed to get all of them with one rock:  6300.

No idea how though as I've never been able to duplicate it.  And my new high score did not come from that game unfortunately!

  8. First Run: 24,490 for me

    Best: 27,290

I'm assuming I was on level 8 (there are 8 flowers anyway).  I definitely need to work on a strategy on that last level.  I can barely move before they're all over me it seems.

  9. Modest improvements to what I first posted (which was my first playthrough for each)

    FAST: 17140

    SLOW: 47330

I just got sloppy on SLOW after awhile.  Should not have lost those last 2 lives.

I found it very hard to get into SLOW after playing FAST first.  Made me impatient LOL

  10. I'm assuming this is the right version!  I don't think I've ever actually played the 5200 version, based on the screenshot I saw here on AA.

    SLOW: 39100

    FAST: 16950

I probably should have played Fast first to make Slow feel even slower, but alas I did it in the opposite order LOL.  Next time I'll start with Fast until I beat my score, and then go with slow ;)

  11. I realized I had the actual Atari XE cart of Blue Max, so I played that instead of the file version on my AtariMax cart.

Fun fact:  Normal and Reverse are reversed on the Atari cart!  So what is Normal on the file version is actually Reversed on the Atari version.  I found that our the hard way LOL.  Also can't pause the game on the cart version I had.

Got a Class 1 Squadron Leader this time - 4610.  Guess that's not as good as my Class 4 score even though my overall score is higher.

  12. Class 4 Squadron Leader:  3920

Took me 3 passes through the city to bomb the targets because I kept getting hit and losing mobility!

On this run I mostly didn't bother bombing unless it was a target, thinking that if I had less bombs to restock I could get off runway faster.  I hate getting bombed on the runway LOL.

  13. Hello!  I know I'm *really* late to the HSC17 party but here I am anyway.

I  'loved' Winter Wally.  First I was determined to get through the first cavern.  Once I could do that fairly consistently I told myself I'd quit if I could ever get to Cavern 3. My high score to that point was 360.  My last game I managed to get to Cavern 7 or 8 (I guess I can say it gets easier for a second?) and decided 1670 was good enough.

RRCW I only played the once.  Fun mod but I played on an 8bitdo through an emulator - think I miss my real Atari joystick for that one.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I tried the text adventure too but when I entered the cave the text was all scrambly and my interest was already pretty low so I just quit.  No score that I could see but I did pick up some logs and a witch's hat :)

  14. Those. Look. Amazing! Well done lads.

Deep Canyon shames my PUR-120 category :)

I'm glad you're still entering vitoco - I meant no disrespect, I just hadn't seen much else of anything in the thread and there weren't any other Atari submissions as yet, so I was just wondering if I missed something :)

    Good luck to all!

  15. My first Atari was the 400. We then got an 800 XL which is the Atari I fell in love with. I don't think I ever had an XE back in the 80s, only in the late 90s when I started to collect the stuff.

So for me it has nothing to do with anything other than nostalgia. I spent the bulk of my Atari time in the 80s on an XL machine, so it's the XL machines I like the best. I picked up a 1200 XL with some OS hacks within it and that's the one I use today.
