  1. OK, I played Skate Crazy and Skateboard. Skate Crazy I got through the first level, so my score is 1000. And that's it. Would be interesting to see the code behind it, but not great. Skateboard I did play on my NTSC machine, and got to level 3, 48 points. It flickers constantly on NTSC (obviously) but you can play it. Just not if you're susceptible to seizures ? I'll try that one again on an emulator at some point as it was fun. I just wanted to play on real hardware this morning so I thought I'd see what it did
  2. Ok, time for my Kik-Start scores. I remember this game from my teens, but I don't recall playing it a lot. It is obviously a frustrating one at times, although I did feel the longer I played the better I was getting. What bothered me most was 'falling' on flat bricks. I mean really? Anyway: Race A 144.92 Race B 133.98 Race C 133.82 Race D 82.06+113.98+152.66 = 348.7 I managed a 16.78 and a 16.70 on track 1 during race D, whereas it was a 31.60 on my abysmmal race A score. I've just determined I don't like the game quite enough to go back and retry any of them, although now that I see I almost halved my score after practicing a little I'm almost tempted. ALMOST As an aside I found the practice course useless. I wanted to play around with that brick consarnit! Pics available upon request, but I figure 6 of them here is a bit much ?
  3. Wait, was I supposed to see a score? As I said above I could only get through first 2 races so far (as left player I should have mentioned - I'll go back and edit). But when i ttok the pics obviously I just saw times. I don't remember scores (although I did those a week or so back, and just hadn't posted the pics yet)
  4. Preppie: 13850 Topper: 22575 BMX: 23.8 40.4 (as left racer) Could not finish 3rd race in BMX. Fun game though. And Topper, as I think I mentioned earlier, I got to where there was another enemy on screen but they never moved so I just died LOL
  5. The one person I know IRL that also had Atari also happened to like Star League Baseball, and when I told him you could steal bases against the computer he didn't believe me! Of course I've shown him how it's done but we still talk about that LOL
  6. OK, I fired up my hack in Altirra this afternoon because I wanted to remind myself of the trivia wording (it's a bit awkward but I think I needed to use all of the space or something like that). And because I was doing so well I kept going. And ended up winning, 19-2. I always play with HEAT - SLUGGER settings for both teams, as that's the most fun for me. Also yeah, I played this game a *lot* as a teenager, so it's probably my best game.
  7. And of course I do, plus a Harmony cart, so that would also be sweet!
  8. I am definitely a fan of Level 3. It wasn't easy but it was very satisfying to get through, and I always had a sense that I could, unlike the higher levels. This game has also inspired me to consider getting a trackball! All depends on cost of course
  9. Just had one of my best games of MULE ever - although have to admit I was obviously a bit lucky. Twice meteroites hit my land to give me two 4* crystite patches, and I had 2 of the 3* patches. "Grew" 54 units of Crystite in round 12 (and the pirate ship came only once, in round 3, where I lost only 4-5 units). Also managed to grab 13 plots of land and at one point was the only one "Growing" energy, so I made out super well overall. Probably my first time playing as a Leggite too. Or space ostrich as I like to think of it Final score: 34,932
  10. I've had the same problem today, after flashing to the latest firmware (0.5.fd038d41). I have v1.5 of the hardware. To be fair it might not have been this specific update that 'broke' it. I haven't really tried to access the SD card in awhile, I had just decided today after the flash that I would put my tnfs server as entry 1 and move the SD entry at the end, and so I decided to test it. In the past I kept it as the first entry and moved everything down, so I never bothered testing it at all. I ran the updater again to be able to show the logs I saw requested above, and it looks like the exact same error as TJ76: [10:44:11] E (1452) vfs_fat_sdmmc: sdmmc_card_init failed (0x107). [10:44:11] SD mount failed with code #263, "ESP_ERR_TIMEOUT" Full log in spoiler below: This is the SD card I bought alongside the FujiNet, so I doubt it is the SD card itself. I've barely touched it since I normally just use the tnfs server to load whatever it is I'm playing that day. Not a critical bug for me by any means, but thought I'd report it. Apologies if this has been happening from an earlier upgrade and I didn't notice until now as I know that's less helpful.
  11. It's likely neither. It might be interesting to know how many users still use real hardware only vs emulation only, but you wouldn't be alone regardless of which category you fit into and I imagine there are a lot of hybrid users. If I'm developing a game (which I haven't done in a few years) it's all done with emulators for sure, and I'll only go to real hardware once I'm in final testing. Lately I've used Altirra to help me figure out how to get a game running on the real hardware, by playing around with what a given OS may do kinda thing. But I personally use real hardware maybe 90-95% of the time. In my case a 1200XL I bought from Steven Tucker that has the ability to switch to a bunch of different OSs along with a FujiNet. That's because of HSC - I just enjoy playing the games on the real deal and taking a pic of my TV like I'm sending in for an Activision patch much much more than playing on an emulator, which I'll do only if the game won't play properly on NTSC hardware. Plus I enjoy the hardware addons the community has created as much as I enjoy the wonderful emulation I have available.
  12. How does Star League Baseball work in HSC context? It's always been one of my faves. In 2006 I hacked just the text so that it was Blue Jays vs Tigers, as well as change the billboard trivia, which I'll attach here. I think I just used XVI16 to make the changes but it's been so long I don't even remember any more. (On a related note, one of my bucket list ideas is to somehow get the code for MicroLeague Baseball so I could see how it works, maybe tweak it, and then make something that would scrape baseballreference.com to automate the creation of teams for the GM disk. I can go on and on about MicroLeague Baseball and how much I played it as a teen, but I won't ) I'd love to play this version for nostalgia if we do go summer of fun, but don't want people to freak that I've hacked the game to cheat somehow because my screenshots say TOR vs DET instead of the normal home vs away, so let me know Star League Baseball 2006.xex
  13. New high score for Level 2: 926,350 (round 4) (I jinxed myself by taking a picture just prior to this, thinking that if I rolled it over I wouldn't get much further, and wanted as much 'proof' as I can get, not that I think anybody really cheats LOL) An observation: the sea-to-air started *painfully* slow, but gets faster each time you go to that screen. So although on the harder levels I had been trying to get just 2 sites before going sea-to-air, and then going back a 2nd time to blow up the last sites, going sea-to-air more frequently makes it more difficult *much* faster. This time out I definitely ignored sea-to-air if I was under direct ship-to-ship attack. I would have died much sooner had I focused on the cities being bombarded, so as hard as it is to let cities get nuked, your game will last longer if you do. This was also the first time I managed to switch back to the nav view and see the mushroom cloud. "fun"
  14. The challenge is learning when to expect one, so you don't get caught! Most of the time this happened and really hurt me is when I was out to destroy a site. It seems impossible to clear them all away as they keep respawning, and by being near a site you're obviously also close to a spawn point. That definitely feels like the right strategy on the harder levels though. In general you need to be more patient, unlike level 1 where you can really just sail from site to site to blow them up, you barely need to worry about other ships at all.
  15. OK I didn't have the Level 4 picture I took so I just played it again, as well as Level 5. L4: 175025 L5: 180525 I don't really understand why, but L5 seemed to be basically the same as L4, if not a little easier? And I don't think it's because I played L4 first or anything like that. I swear that damage from enemy ships was 8% on level 4 and 7% on level 5, but regardless, both seem particularly beyond my reach to finish a round in (unlike Level 3, which is very challenging but doable) In general, it seems to me at the sea-to-air starts off relatively slowly compared to how it ends within a round. At the beginning of L4 and L5 I felt like I could catch all 8 missiles out of the air, but as each round went on it became more and more difficult. And in both cases what really does me in is ship damage, because there are so many of them and when like 5+ missile sites launch at once you are forced to go sea-to-air, while the ships around you get in several free 7-8% hits.
  16. I'm definitely going to try Level 5. I'm pretty sure I have a picture of my Level 4 attempt but can't remember if I posted it. I do agree that going one round on each level is more interesting overall, as 15 rounds was a bit much ? After I've done that I might try to see how far I can get on Level 2. I don't know I'd ever play level 1 again unless someone beat my score, and even then I'm not sure I'd bother ?
  17. And what we just discovered above is that if you hit option here you go to round 2 of level 1. Gradually things get faster, but you never have to destroy more than 8 bases and they were never hidden.
  18. Here's the wrapped score (I imagine it's impossible for a score so low after a round:
  19. Well I have to stop for a bit for a father's day lunch, but I've confirmed that the scores wrapped after a million points. I'm going to come back to this game but my scores after each round: 176450 341700 494000 646725 795550 928325 1054950 I will eventually die, as I can't keep up with the missiles, but I've still got plenty of gas and I'm only like 8% damaged (EDIT, as I came back to game after lunch) 1159725 1264525 1361450 1452050 1568650 1660075 1752525 1825425 So it looks like I made it to round 15 in total. Obviously the bonuses get smaller as I have less and less cities over time, but I did get actually start getting better at defending them as the game went on. I was hoping to die by running out of gas but there were a lot of enemy ships and they eventually caught up to me
  20. OMG I have obviously seen that Option screen many times, but never even thought about continuing. I will definitely give a try. My guess is that you needed to find more 1 star ships in order to reveal more hidden bases, but I won't know until I try (which I will at some point this weekend). It does seem kinda silly that I assumed the game was over after 'winning', because you only ever see the actual words "game over" on the main screen.
  21. L3 has been beaten! 384,975 I confirmed that the 1 star ships are the intelligence ships, which honestly made the game less frustrating for me. Without knowing that fact I was blowing up ships and then getting frustrated that no new sites were displayed. In this game I think I had to shoot 8 total in order to reveal the 7 hidden sites on L3, but fought way more than 8 ships. (I find myself hating the 2 star ships because they're just points!) Unlike with L2 though, parts of my cities definitely got shelled. Mostly you have to resign yourself to the fact that when you go to sea-to-ground combat that you won't necessarily get all 4 sites on your first go. Unlike with Level 1, you have to use the space bar to bring up the menu or you'll lose cities for sure, but every site you kill means 2 less missiles launched at your cities next time they fire so try to get at least 1 or 2 before going sea-to-air to save your cities. I'm not sure if I'll try L4 next or just try L6 to see just how hard it is LOL (EDIT: 89100 on L6. Um yeah, you can only have like 400 units of gas, and you only see 2 sites to start, and there are about a 1000 ships roaming the seas. Definitely on the 'hard' side. I'll see how L4 goes but L6 is not my cup of tea ? )
  22. I just now realized that when you are in ship-to-ship combat you will see 1-3 stars (unless you're playing the earlier version that has text for navigation options). I'm assuming 3 stars is a war ship (defeating it reduces your own ship damage by 5%), 2 stars are hunters, and the 1 star ships are the intelligence ships. And straight from the manual, you only have an 80% chance of revealing a hidden site when you destroy an intelligence ship (which explains what I saw in my L2 game previously). I'd be a lot happier if it was 100%! This game is hard enough on L3, with 7 hidden sites to find that's a lot of ship-to-ship combat unless you get lucky!
  23. I agree 100%. Just finished my first game on L3 and I ran out of gas because I got so hung up hunting ships to discover where the last 2-3 sites were left. 144800 was my score. It's the first time I've missed anything in the sea-to-air portion (and I got the zoom in redo where I was able to polish off the 3 that I had missed) If I play this on my own in the future I would definitely play L2 or L3. I'll try L6 at some point but I can't imagine how hard that must be LOL - you're a crazy gamer @therealbountybob ?
  24. I can't stress this enough - my first game on L2 I didn't know this, and realized that even waiting until the hidden bases fire (and they will) doesn't let you attack them. You have to sink an intelligence ship, and not every intelligence ship reveals a location either (or I assume they all don't - I was focusing on ships on the right side but maybe had to sink 2 before it revealed a spot?) Finished Level 2 with 297,025! I actually enjoyed this a lot more as I've had no trouble beating Level 1. The fact you have to fight the ships to (evenually) reveal the hidden (4) bases makes for a much more tense game. Note also that you will have to refuel on the higher levels. Bring your ship close to a home city and bring up the sea-to-ground screen. If you don't see a fuel icon in the bar then you're not going to be able to refuel. In cities with the icon, navigate until you find the city and it turns to pink (NTSC), and you'll see fuel being added. DON'T HIT FIRE to leave screen as it won't work anyway and you don't want to destroy your city! You need to use space here for sure. BTW: On the XEGS game by game podcast from a few months ago they covered Final Legacy, and the icons are the XEGS version. If I remember the podcast correctly, Atari didn't want it to be English text because then it could only be sold in English speaking countries. And since the icons are so large they had to go with an inline display of them (LEFT UP DOWN RIGHT) as opposed to what they could do with just text (which was more easily display which direction did what) On to Level 3!
