  1. Am I taking my pictures at too high of a revolution? I can't upload more than 2-3 before I get over the 10 MB limit? Anyway, more times: Le Mans Paved: 6:51 Mosport Paved: 7:10
  2. Here are some new scores to put me back at #1 Brands Hatch Paved: 10:06 Gamestar USA Paved: 12:11
  3. I hated seeing myself 2nd so often, so I decided to give it another go this morning since I have the day off. I had never bothered changing the racer before (I was always AJ) but the switch to Parnellii seems to agree with me! Watkins Glen Paved: 10:17 Watkins Glen Dirt: 10:29
  4. Finally started this week's games. (EDIT - and finished them!) I can't upload all of the pictures because of the 10 MB limit. Zipped all 11 images are 50 MB, and I'm too lazy to shrink them with GIMP. If someone wants to see them for whatever reason just ask and I can post whatever 'unbelievable' score you want ) (I seriously can't imagine why somebody would want to cheat in something like this, but I'm sure it happens LOL) Anyway, On-Track scores: Watkins Glen: 11:43 (P), 11:21 (D) Road America: 11:41 (P), 11:39 (D) Sebring: 10:58 (P), 10:54 (D) Daytona: 11:30 (P), 11:37 (D) Gamestar: 12:57 (P), 12:53 (D) Brands Hatch: 10:46 (P), 10:34 (D) Mosport: 7:49 (P), 7:37 (P) Le Mans: 7:12 (P), 7:20 (D) Fuji: 12:45 (P), 12:24 (D) Monaco: 12:14 (P), 11:35 (D) I played a lot of On-Track when I was younger. I definitely got in to the groove on a few courses this time around, and just gave up on some of the longer/curvier courses. Getting through 20 races felt like a *lot* to do (which is one reason it took me so long to start). Next time out I'd suggest we skip the Paved or Dirt courses and just do each course the once. Oil's Well: 29,460 Never been a big fan of this game, although I did enjoy it this time around. I think I'm too impatient for a game like this, where you have to be play defense, be patient and wait for your spots. I probably played this 6 times and didn't get off the first level for the first 5. The best part of this week's games is that I finally snapped and tried to fix the problem I've been having with some interference. I tried a bunch of things, but it turned out that my RCA cable was just bad/not shielded/whatever. Swapping in a different RCA cable greatly improved my picture, for which I'm extremely happy
  5. It's always bothered me that it's called Oil's Well. Anyone know why? (Why it's named that way that is, not why it bothers me ). I can't add anything to the list above except the Gamestar game called On-Track. I'm not sure how scoring would work in HSC though, but I remember enjoying it. 6. This is a good opportunity to (a) play this game more often and (b) ask if anyone knows the answers to any of the questions I've had all these years. I played twice yesterday, and once that is 'cheating' since I played it in Sep of 2012, but my score is so good I had to share it anyway (I had posted it to Facebook which is why I still have it). You might notice I love being the Bonzoid. There's no reason, I just have always been the Bonzoid and will always continue to be the Bonzoid So does anyone know the algorithm that's used to determine prices? Like when the store has no units and players are pushing the price up until someone finally sells? Or when there are no sellers? I'd love to know that so I can plan accordingly In one of my two games I sold a unit of food for 407, which is the highest I've ever gotten (or paid) for anything. I was the only one who produced food that round, and I had produced exactly what I needed, but decided to sell to see what they'd go to. The price of food the next turn was 245 I think - which might be the maximum floor? Anyway, you know you're a Mule addict when selling a unit of food for 407 causes extreme excitement and you just *have* to tell someone about it Recent scores: 28153 26971 (can't figure out why this is attaching upside down?) Sep 2012: 38826
  7. Nemo's Vault: 162 Neptune's Daughter: 269,853 Nautilus: 18,600 This is why I decided to participate in HSC (well, that and the fact I have a bunch of time now that I'm no longer married). I'd heard of and played Nautilus before, but not the other 2 games . Neither are a new favourite, but I did enjoy both. I'll definitely play Neptune's Daughter again, but probably not Nemo's Vault or Nautilus. Unless they're in a future HSC that is
  8. Hey there. Long time member of the forums, never had time to participate in this before but always knew I'd be here eventually, and here I am For Miner 2049'er, put me down for 32,110 I've gone back in time as well and played Galaxian (8,200) and Galactic Chase (19,330). For the latter I also tried the 'best score on the first level with one man (2,280). For my money, I actually liked Galacic Chase better, which surprised me (I was pre-determined I'd like the original over the clone). I like how GC starts off slow but scales up the challenge as you progress, and disliked how quick Galaxian was. I don't know how many play on real hardware vs emulated, but I couldn't get Henry's House to run on my NTSC 130XE (using SIO2USB and APE), presumably because it's PAL. So for H I've only got the one (terrible) Hover Bovver score to submit (1,948). Man is that game tough, although I might keep trying it. I-L over this week as I get a chance
  9. My emboss reads 082 Then 013962 on the official sticker. Last is G 152 AV070285-16 2/17 L40 P on the sticker that almost peeledoff. This is my original 400, and my dad said he bought it around 82 or so, which seems to fit. I haven't fired it up in years as I use a 130 XE mostly with Maxflash carts I made with my faves (and APE when I want to try something else)
  10. I was beginning to wonder if the feed I have on my Android device was messed up and search again, but it popped up in my podcast app this morning when I refreshed it I really enjoyed the first one and can't wait to listen to the second. There are lots of good video game podcasts I listen to (You Don't Know Flack, No Quarter, Atari 2600 Game by Game), but I love the Atari 8BIT Line more than anything else, so the effort to produce a podcast covering it is very much appreciated!
  11. I agreed with your post for the most part but had an issue with this. It *could* be calling the kettle black if you will, but doesn't have to mean that the open edition firmware user doesn't support the system. I've been running DevHook or the custom firmwares ever since the 2.0 to 1.5 downgrader was released, but that never stopped me from buying games for my PSP. I was careful enough to only buy games that I'd be able to play using whatever work around was available to me for sure, but I never stopped supporting the system. Mind you I'm not one of those who will rip Sony - I *love* my PSP. I just wanted to say that people do run the OE firmwares and do still buy games and movies (I own 9 and 4 respectively, on a PSP I've had for 18 months).
  12. Nope, but you could rip you own PS1 games and put them on your PSP yourself as long as you have custom firmware. Correctomundo. It's a pretty simple process taking your own PS1 games, ripping them as isos, and then converting them to pbp format for use in a custom firmware'd PSP. I never did try Syphon Filter 3 (as the first 'emulators' didn't quite support it properly - there were some graphical glitches), but I've converted classics like Metal Slug X and Mr. Driller onto my PSP and definitely think it's one of the brightspots. Another recent PSP brightspot is them opening up the video playback to use the full screen (this is Sony's update I'm talking about, although the newest custom firmwares support it too). I'm actually re-ripping all my previous videos to take advantage of the bigger resolution I now get!
  13. How's the performance on the compressed PSX stuff? Does it play just as fast?
  14. It's definitely neat. I don't mind the "see what I can do releases" at all, but if you let your hopes get up you can be disappointed, as I have been in the past (everyone kept saying how great SNES emulation was, and I could never get it running smoothly personally). I personally love PSPAtari, but I consider that machine to be my all time favourite gaming machine so I'm a little biased. The keyboard interface isn't too bad - you hit the Start button to display a nine box overlay. Each box then has a letter/number/button corresponding to the PSP's four buttons. And you use the L button and R button to toggle if it's upper or lowercase letters, the "Start/Select/Option" buttons, etc.. It sounds more complicated than I've found it to be, and you can still configure buttons to do whatever you'd like if you find you don't like the default setup (I think the Triangle or Square is set to space bar by default, which is handy for pausing games for example). As far as games go I try to keep the number of games I have for each emu on the smaller side of things, since I figure I'll only want to play my favourtes anyway. For PSP Atari, I have: Berzerk, Blue Max, Boulder Dash, Bristles, Bruce Lee, Buried Bucks, Defender, Encounter, Frogger, Ghostbusters, Great American Cross Country Road Race, Gremlins, HERO, Hot Lips, Journey to the Planets, Kennedy Approach, The Last Starfigher, MULE, Montezuma's Revenge, Mr Robot and his Robot Factory, NYC - The Big Apple, Necromancer, One-On-One, Pharaohs Curse, Pitfall 2, Preppie!, Realm of Impossibility, River Raid, Serpentine, Seven Cities of Gold, Shamus 1&2, Slime, Star League Baseball, uh, Strip Poker , Sudoku Sweep, Tree Surgeon, Trivia Quest, Twilight World, Wavy Navy, Zenji, Zeppelin, and Zone Ranger. Whew! Kennedy Approach is very playable IMO, even though you require the keyboard interface.
  15. In order: SNES: The last time I tried a SNES emulator it was a total bust. Haven't tried one since, because ... Genesis: I'm quite happy with DGEN 1.70. Comix Zone, Sonic 2, Streets of Rage all run fantastic. TG16: I've never tried a TG16 emu. Doesn't interest me - sorry. VCS: We're stuck with StellaPSP .2. The sound is off, and the colours can make games unplayable as is (like Space Invaders), but I still enjoy it quite a bit. For Space Invaders I just hacked it to make the bullets whiter, which makes the game playable again I also run... GBA: gpSP was one of the ones I hadn't touched in a long time (like the SNES), 'cause it was unplayable, but it's a *definite* must have these days. Not all games will work (GTA Advance loads but crashes when it tries to save to memory), but most I've tried have and they run *fantastic*. I'm over half way through beating Wario Ware on a new console NES: NesterJ 1.11. I think there are newer versions out but I've had zero problems with what I play so I've never bothered updating. I probably play this emu the least, but not because it's bad. Simply because I enjoy the other stuff so much more. Atari 8-bit: PSPAtari 1.0.5 is kinda like the VCS emulator. The graphics look better (I haven't hacked anything) but the sound is still totally off, and we're not likely to see another update anytime soon so WYSIWYG I don't think the PSP will ever compare to the GP2X (or whatever it's called) as far as emulation goes, so if that's all you care about I'd probably suggest going that route. For me, though, the PSP is all about playing PSP games *most* of the time (Coded Arms, GTA: LCS, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, GTA: VCS, Burnout Legends and Wipeout Pure are my most played), with the option to play older games for a quick fix, watching a Looney Tunes cartoon if I have 7 minutes to spare, or listening to some music. The GP2X is useless to me (and my DS goes largely unplayed)
  16. I just finished the PSP version of Syphon Filter, and trust me, I was definitely interested in revisiting the older PS1 games afterwards. (I *hate* the PS2 game). So while Syphon Filter 3 would've been more appealing to me (it's the only one I never finished), the original makes some sense, again, at least to me. For those interested, the 3.00+ custom firmware hacks have started trickling out, which means being able to emulate your *own* games (which you've ripped into ISOs) isn't too far off. For the brave that is.
  17. Go ahead and justify it to yourself 'till the cows come home my friend. Naming *anything* similar to the male reproductive organ will *always* garner negative reactions, no matter how much you love Nintendo and your own Wii. PS3 and Xbox 360 are boring. But at least they're not Wii.
  18. 'Anyone else' means Nintendo for sure, as they've got a virtual console thing going on with the Wii don't they? Where you have to pay similar prices for NES/SNES/N64 games? I agree with you - micro transactions are here to stay. I don't like 'em, and I don't plan on participating anytime soon, but I'm not wasting any energy trying to fight it. I've got better things to do.
  19. Hmmm. Uhura vs. Leia? I'd choose option c - Padme! Star Destroyer vs. Enterprise NCC-1701D Call me crazy. ("Crazy!") But I'd go with the Star Destroyer here. Or again I'd go with option c and choose the Death Star! Tribbles vs. Ewoks My favourite Star Trek episode of all time is DS9s: "Trials and Tribblations." And as much as I like Star Wars, I've never really liked the Ewoks. The Tribbles win hands down, real easy like! Harrison Ford vs. William Shatner I really do like Harrison Ford, but it's an autographed picture of William Shatner that adorns my games room (as well as an autograph from Cletus of Dukes of Hazard fame and an as yet unautographed picture of Adam West as Batman). So this one is pretty easy too
  20. Better yet, read a couple! People have already mentioned GameRankings.com. What I haven't seen mentioned is that it also solicits user scores for each game, so you can see averages for 'professional' sites alongside those from Joe & Jane Q. Public. And, as I alluded too, it makes it easy to find a couple of reviews to sample. I like reading a glowing one as well as a panning one, just to get a feel for the game.
  21. I have a feeling both MS and Sony will hold prices as high as possible this time around, as I've heard too often about how the cost to develop games has risen dramatically over the last few years. Nintendo. Well. I can see them keeping their games just low enough (like $10 cheaper) to differentiate themselves from their competition while still maximizing how much they get, but I'd be suprised to see Wii games lower than that consistently. Of course that's all just wild/idle speculation on my part (I personally love this between generation time. I bought a *lot* of DC/PS1 games on the cheap 6 years or so ago, and I can't wait for those cheap PS2/GC/Xbox games to pop up!)
  22. Why is that anyway? We have PS1 emulators on the PC. Is the Saturn that much more powerful than the PS1, or is the hardware just that much more complicated than the PS1 that we're not far enough ahead in the PC world to handle all the different things with software that the machine does itself with hardware?
  23. A better question is, do you realize that I'm the type of gamer who finds big lumbering naval combat incredibly boring and a waste of time? That's is why I also mention I prefer fast, nimble combat. That way the reader can decide if they're going to like this type of game based on whether or not they like the same types of games I do. It's just an opinion friend - there's no need to debate it.
  24. I've played the PSP version and I found it really, really boring. The Star Trek universe just wasn't meant for video game ship to ship combat. I'll take a fast paced Star Wars game any day (Rogue Squadron, Starfighter) over the boring combat I had in ST:TA.
