  1. Welcome to the fifth round of the 14th 5200 HSC season! Mario Bros tied with Super Cobra in the poll, but won the coin toss. Play using the default setting. Emulation is fine, as are custom controls. Pics preferred, but not required except for HSC wins and records. The high score was set by atariksi with 642,770 points. Bust it if you can for a bonus point. The ROM can be found here: https://atariage.com/software_page.php?SoftwareLabelID=634 Round ends Sunday, March 21st, 2021 @9pm EST Standings: Cafeman - 194,230 MrTrust - 150,550 Mangia-Boy - 115,000
  2. Very sorry this game wasn’t a hit. Cafeman ground it out to a very impressive level 7 and broke the record in the process. Mario Bros is up next and I sincerely hope everyone has a better time with it. Final standings: Cafeman - 44,762 - RECORD BREAKER +11 +1 = +12 Mangia-Boy - 26,740 +10 MrTrust - 31,172 +9 bemis - 19,750 +8 jblenkle - 11,602 +7
  3. Coin flip breaks the tie and Mario Bros is up next.
  4. Should this game ever come up again, your suggestion of scoring by round reached, then points to break ties, is a very good one! With the round ending tomorrow, it’s a bit late to change it this time.
  5. I don’t think so? I mean, we’re obviously playing on the honor system here... if you weren’t deliberately hanging out scoring easy points on the early levels without trying to progress, than it’s a good score.
  6. Do I understand correctly that the first score (67,588!) was obtained through aggressive point milking on the early stages (and thus not eligible) while the second one (26,740) was obtained through regular play? Just want to be sure. And I apologize if you spent a lot of time on the first score before seeing the point milking discussion come up here!
  7. Thanks for pointing this out! I’ll add a reminder to the first post not to engage in this kind of thing. Unfortunately, this isn’t the only game with that kind of flaw. Pengo has a similar issue as do a few others. The 5200 library is too small IMHO to toss every game that can possibly be abused. Just play the way the game was intended as per Rule #6 in the Rules of Play... Rule #6. Please do not abuse bugs in the games! Many Atari games have loopholes that allow you to easily get huge amounts of points without much work ... Not only do these result in somewhat bogus high scores, but it ruins the fun and challenge of the game in the process.
  8. Still standard. Didn’t bother putting the hack on the multicart as hitting the fire repeatedly on the Wico wasn’t a problem.
  9. 220,400 oof, those aliens REALLY don’t want you to get to Earth!
  10. Had to perform that adjustment to my own console before I could get the proper control. All worked well one I did... 99,550 Used the standard cart + the Wico. Might take another crack at it before bedtime.
  11. It’s certainly the programming to blame... as you say, most games don’t have this issue. Your best bet is to make an adjustment inside the console itself, as explained in this thread:
  12. Congratulations to Mangia-Boy on coming out on top of a very hard fought round! Kudos to Cafeman for keeping him on his toes! Up N Down is up next. Final standings: Mangia-Boy - 244,020 +11 Cafeman - 209,470 +10 Mr Trust - 96,800 +9 roadrunner - 25,330 +8 rubeon - 18,140 +7 bemis - 9,820 +6 jblenkle - 5,210 +5
  13. Welcome to the fourth round of the 14th 5200 HSC season! Up N Down won by two votes. Play using the default setting. Emulation is fine, as are custom controls. Pics preferred, but not required except for HSC wins and records. As with a few other games, this one can be abused by “hanging out” on the easier levels, scoring cheap points endlessly. Please do not do this, as it’s a violation of the 5200 HSC Rules of Play (Rule #6). Just try to complete the levels in a timely manner. Yours truly set the high score on this one - 38,844 points. Bust it if you can for a bonus point. (With the high level of play we’ve seen this season, I fully expect to see this happen!) The ROM can be found here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/42300-new-prerelease/?p=541074 Round ends Sunday, March 7th, 2021 @9pm EST Standings: Cafeman - 44,762 - RECORD BREAKER Mangia-Boy - 26,740 MrTrust - 31,172 bemis - 19,750 jblenkle - 11,602
  14. Thank you, zylon. The duplicate was created by accident. I changed it to a placeholder for the next poll.
  15. Poll closes Sunday, February 21st, 2020 @9pm EST
  16. I have the Wico and I really like it... for me, if I could only have one controller for the 5200, that would be it, as it can be used successfully on every 5200 game. That said, it just doesn’t feel quite right for a standard arcade game, like Pac-Man for example. So ideally, you’d have some kind of Masterplay-style adapter and your favorite 2600 compatible joystick in your arsenal as well. And you probably want the 5200 trackball for the few games that take advantage of it as well. This is why the 5200 is a system for hardcore enthusiasts... it takes some effort to get good controller options for all the different kinds of games!
  17. I can’t say for certain, but I think it’s highly likely that it does have that bug. As far as I know, it has never been fixed.
  18. Here’s the current standings for season 14. We are planning a 22 round season this year. Standings as of Round 3: Cafeman - +12 +11 +10 = 33 Mangia-Boy - +10 +9 +11 = 30 rubeon - +6 +10 +7 = 23 jblenkle - +9 +7 +5 = 21 bemis - +8 +6 +6 = 20 roadrunner - +5 +5 +8 = 18 MrTrust - 0 +8 +9 = 17 Player One - +7 +0 +0 = 7
  19. Ok, we officially have an Oils Well shootout going on! Cool to see this much action early in the contest!
  20. Yes, it certainly is. This was much less clear back in the day when Anteater was a fairly obscure arcade game.
