  1. What MHz speed is your MC68010FN and what is the limit on how fast a chip you can put in? Also do you need to be able to throttle it to 8Mhz for certain games and apps to work properly?
  2. Now I don't feel so bad - I also haven't had time to even power mine up yet Same here, I have had mine for months and not connected or powered it up; too many other things to do first and after three months, I have only just installed my two Bernd Thomas 14MB low-profile RAM boards in my two Falcons.
  3. Yep I was agreeing with you, not saying the opposite etc. Sorry if I sounded confusing (I often am!).
  4. Nobody is that insane or stupid enough to go with TalkTalk?!!
  5. Arrrgggh!!! Bugger! My daily fix of AF is not happening this morning and the root page is saying: Might be back on tonight when I return home from work...
  6. Yep a tidy and versatile ST setup for sure, which would have been the envy of many a user back then; I mean, how many people would have a computer that could be three in one in hardware....MAC, PC and ST!
  7. I bought mine for £17 or $27 (Canadian), so it was very cheap. Also bear in mind that you can use Ebay to have a bit of fun with things you wished for back in the day, and then sell it back on Ebay to someone else who will probably do the same.
  8. I've got a Vortex ATonce Intel 286 interface, along with the adapter to fit to my STE. I just need to get something with 64 pins to mount it over the CPU, at least I think so; might need to read the instructions again.
  9. Yes and I have lost count of the number of auctions that say, 'clean' or 'perfect condition' or 'mint' and when the goods arrive, they usually smell of a dirty home which then makes your room stink for a day or two. Also when they say clean, they should actually say, 'thick with layers of dirt I could not be bothered to clean with soap and water, because I have no shame and do not value my customer'. Also just because something may be 20yrs old say, it does not have to be broken, filthy or generally abused; a lot of my stuff is that age or more and is genuinely in perfect condition and totally clean, because I have clean habits and this is really no effort for me; c'mon how bloody difficult is it to wash your hands once an hour or before using somethng?
  10. The only problem with slim/normal sized girls is that they are a dying breed...
  11. In May 1985 I bought a Panasonic 14" Colour TV which I forget the model number now, but it had a similar CRT tube system name to the Sony; it also had a long, narrow and slim remote that could be pushed into the TV set to store it, but it doubled as the TVs main controls too. An extra door opened to reveal a BNC input for the S-Video or maybe just composite I dunno; you had to pull out a small button dial to engage this video mode. The picture quality was really exceptional and FAR superior to any LCD portable around now; There was also a stereo version of this TV but not NICAM in 1985 of course, but I only had the mono version of this TV.
  12. It's not about which is technically the best or whatever, it is about which computer you feel the most affinity/love towards; with me it happens to be the Atari range but I still acknowledge that the Amiga is techically superior. This is kind of stupid because you do not choose your wife based upon the size of her **** or **** or *****! At least I hope not as you should be going for the girl you have the most love for! Okay that is enough of my analogies for one day; go away and enjoy your computers and girlfriends/wife etc.
  13. I forgot to mention that I am on Virgin Media Broadband (L) in the UK and have not had any problems with the forums.
  14. oky is spot on with his last post. The Archimedes looked a big deal back in 1988 but it was a luxury few could afford in the UK; even the ST or Amiga were a luxury for many of us and I for one could not afford one from my pocket money or first wages even, circa 1985 to 1990, although to be fair I was spending my money on games, music LPs(later CDs), magazines and mail order catalogue repayments, so there was nothing left to save up for an ST etc. The PC games were a joke and I can often remember laughing in disbelief, at how bad they looked in comparison with even the 8-bit games. My 8-bit gaming days fizzled out around 1990 and it was not until 1994 before I returned to computing with an 1040STE, but that was strictly used for music production only.
  15. The Supera does not suffer from the medium resolution problem mentioned by DarkLord. My screen photos in the URL links provided in my previous post will illustrate this, plus everything you need to connect from the ST/E to a computer monitor is shown and explained. Recently I saw a 13-pin DIN plug to SCART plug on the cpc.co.uk site; I am not sure yet how this is wired but at less than £5, it would be significantly cheaper than the ones on Ebay. cpc.co.uk - PRO SIGNAL - AV12503 - SCART ADAPTOR
  16. Out of everything that is known and tried, go and buy a Supera Color HD as this will give you all the colour and mono options you need. Up until recently they were in stock but you can keep trying, or look elsewhere; they sometimes appear brand new on Ebay. They are always sold on Chinese websites/Ebay shops. Deal To World - Currently sold out but had them recently Deal Extreme - Currently sold out and have been for months Also check out this superb thread here: How to get the ST/E colour and mono modes working on any computer monitor
  17. Ahhh yes I am forgetting the USA nature of this forum, so yes no SCART where you are. Mind you the whole connection from ST out to the monitor itself is only composite, plus the Supera Color HD converts this into a VGA compatible signal. I assume your ST is a USA NTSC model? The Supera box handles NTSC and PAL input sources.
  18. The SCART coupler adapter costs £2.01 from here: CPC.co.uk - SCART Coupler Adapter + S-Video I just set the switch to INPUT and then plug the Atart ST 13-pin DIN to SCART cable in the adapter SCART socket. From this I run a S-Video cable into a Supera Color HD video convertor box and from that into any CRT or LCD TFT computer monitor. I also use a colour / mono switch box which turn up on Ebay occasionally, which plugs into the Atari ST monitor port. For more details on how I did all of this, check out the thread URL below on Atari-Forum.com: How to get the ST/E colour and mono modes working on any computer monitor
  19. I have the same kind of setup with my STE (which has the internal modulator of course) and I combined the SCART coupler and adapter with one item, which you can get from cpc.co.uk for about £2
  20. Was the little box to the left of the Falcon a modem that connected to the internet? Nice little setup and thanks for sharing as I always love to see other users stuff in action.
  21. Well if this auction on Ebay is anything to go by.... Ebay auction number: 250701310089
  22. Yep I remember during the late 80s and early 90s regularly looking at PCs, and my jaw dropping in amazement at how bad they were when compared with even the 8-bits! It was not until the mid 1990s when the Pentium CPU came out and Windows 95, that I began to take PCs seriously and by then I was actually impressed. Even then I could only do offline editing of audio because sequencing was still a pipedream, whereas the Falcon 030 could already do this and more, at a cheaper price. Also by the mid 1990s gaming was almost exclusively done on the PlayStation, although I myself had completely stopped gaming. Regarding Windows and general PC backwards compatibility with modern advances; I recently installed Windows 98SE on a circa 2002 Pentium III PC and although it did install, my software and internet experience was pretty awful compared to the last time I used it daily in 2004.
