  1. THat is awesome.. I've only ever seen the revision that pitbull has with the tennis paddle controllers.. What are the revision numbers on each of these guys? I would imagine the driving paddles are the earlier ones, and was fixed maybe? How fun to see these two revisions... WHere did you get that 5th ghost????

The product # on my Sears 4 switch box is 49-75006, which are all stickers. Pitbull's says 49-75005. My boxed Sears light sixer has 49-75001

  2. Encounter at L-5, Warplock, Sssnake, Airlock and Bugs are the only Data Age games that come in black or white.

If I were to guess, I'd say the white title boxes came first.

  3. I've seen that many times with various carts. It happens to me when I try to use an Activision 5200 game and it isn't sitting in the cart hole *just right*. Did you try cleaning the cart's metal connector area, and trying to firmly pop it into the 5200 so it makes a good connection?

    Yep, the cart is bad.

But Allan is coming through for me. Can't thank him enough!

  4. Can you try it in another 5200 to make sure the cartridge is dead?

The game fires up, but the title screen is jumbled and then freezes. Not sure if hooking up my 2 port would make a difference.

    **EDIT**

Hooked up my 2 port anyway, same thing: scrambled title screen, then freezes.

  5. I'm super bummed too. I bought this repro here at the AtariAge store when it was first realeased, and didn't get around to playing it much other than a few quick games.

Anyway, I just got the urge to play this one more seriously, and found it does not work. I feel like I never got a chance to really enjoy this game, especially since this was one of those games I loved to play back in the arcade. :(

Has anyone else experienced problems with this one going dead on them? The sticker on the back mentions a 90 day warranty, but that has LONG expired.

Any way I can replace it with a working one?

  7. Hey ninermaniac,

Is there a way to make the controller an all-in-one, similar to the Sears VAII controller, where the sticks doubles as a twistable paddle? (for Super Breakout, Kaboom, etc.)

It would be awesome if you could take your current design, turn the controller 90 degrees clockwise in your hand, and then use the stick as a paddle!

    ;)

  8. I'm probably using the same route you are, or close to it. I just don't have the whole non-stop part down yet. I probably look more like Grandpa Harry than Pitfall Harry but I was having a HARD time surviving when I was going full throttle. I think I'm also missing something on screen #2 because so far, I've yet to be able to reach #3 with the vine in place so I ALWAYS have to stop and wait on #3. If I could have just had one more day...

    Try this...

On screen two, jump the two rolling logs so you land on top of the ladder. Before you fall, quickly push down then forward and you'll bounce right out! Keep going and you'll reach that vine. ;)

You'll have to do a similar move on screen #5 with the three rolling logs...jump the wide pit, jump into the ladder, quickly bounce out and get ready to imediately jump the log that will be coming toward you as you bounce out of the ladder.

    Good luck!

  9. You're so close! Don't give up!

    :-o

I haven't given up on eventually getting it, I did however play all the way up until there was less than 10 minutes left before the deadline. At that point I had to give up because if I had reached perfection immediately after the deadline... :x :x :x I'll go back to it in a week or two.

    Oh that's right...the deadline.

In any event, let us know when you get that perfect score. You and a few others here came really close! This is a very hard game to max without losing a point. And just think, David Crane initially designed the game to have just one life!

Oh, and finishing the game with more than 1 minute left on the clock is also an accomplishment. At one time, Todd's 1:01 was the world record, and was the only completion time with over a minute remaining that had been submitted.

To match my time, you just need to figure out when you have to push it, in order to reach a vine, or clear the quicksand. If you miss a vine you were supposed to get...that's at least 4 seconds lost. You also have to memorize the fastest route. I know two different routes that can yield sub-19 minute completion times, but one will get you 1:42 if done right, the other 1:18 if done right.

Another hint is that I reach the first gold bar (screen 7) at the 19:28 mark. You have to move non-stop to do that. In fact you shouldn't stop till two screens after the money bag, (2nd treasure,) which I reach at the 17:59 mark.

  10. You're so close! Don't give up!

    :-o

    Final submission 113,990 :x 10 points. I knicked a log!

This one was earlier today. The screen you're seeing is #28. The last gold bar is on #29 :x

The 10 hours I played today makes a total of more than 20 hours for this game. So close, yet so far.
