  1. Todd Rogers is THE KING, no question. Although I can personally attest to "Beating the Champ" at a few games, my personal accomplishments don't nearly add up to the incredible volume of Todd's accomplishments. I find his scores inspiring, some of which I believe will never be broken. Tied maybe, but broken, forget it My friends call me the king of indoor games since I always seem to beat them whenever we play Atari, table hockey, ping-pong, pool, etc. I appreciate that but when it comes to Atari and other video games from the era, Todd Rogers is the best overall. Another great player I know is David Yancey. His scores are incredible too! We have a Sky Jinks battle going on at the moment. The ball is in his court now Doug
  2. That is the trickiest level but can be cleared with practice. You have to jump on the block twice to get the required color BUT if you jump on it again, after getting the required color, the block changes back to the first color meaning you have to start over and hit it two more times. It takes practice figuring out a method that works but you'll get it I'm sure, good luck! Doug
  3. HAHA Now I'm more confused than ever. My maze craze box has © 1978 on the box, © 1978 on the cart (looks like this), and the manual is the small black manual with a © 1980 on it. It also has a ©1981 45 game catalog . So, perhaps mine was pieced together? I don't know. I do know that so far I am the only one here who seems to have a box with the "16 games" on it. Anyone else have this version and can back up the copyright dates? Again, I think the copyright 1978 is a typo on your version. Also, the picture label carts came out much later than the text label versions. I would say the version you have with 16 games on front is uncommon but not as hard to find as the one with the original picture on the box. Doug
  4. Interesting, I just found another version of the 1981 catalog with a red cover and 42 games. (*The one with 43 games introduced Missile Command). The first page of the 42 game catalog shows Warlords with completely different artwork on the box. Its a picture of a knight in full armor wielding an axe! It also says 28 Video Games instead of 23. Now THAT would be an awesome find if it exists! Doug
  5. Okay, I checked my boxed Maze Craze and it has the picture shown on the left at the top of the thread (robber running from 3 cops). I am absolutely positive that this was the first version of the box. It is dated 1980 and says 256 games. I checked all of my Atari inbox catalogs and Maze Craze wasn't offered or featured until the 1981 catalog came out (orange cover / 43 games) I also went through my stack of extra instruction manuals and found the large white Maze Craze instruction book. The original instruction books were the smaller black cover type, the larger white cover ones came later. Again, the small black cover version in the boxed copy I own is dated 1980. The large white cover copy is dated 1978, I think this date was a printing error. I say the box with 16 games printed on it, 1978 copyright and revised picture (where the robber and one cop are about to collide) was the last version released based on the picture and instruction book style. On a side note, I never saw the original, small black style instruction book with the original picture on it (where the robber is running from the three cops) My book has the revised picture. This should clear things up, hopefully Doug
  6. In my opinion it doesn't mean anything as far as the value of the cart. It isn't worth calling it a unique variation just because the colors are a little off. I do know that I would be very happy just to say that I own a S.Q. Waterworld, let alone 2 of them! Both carts are very nice, enjoy them equally Doug
  7. My Tac-2 snapped in half. What a bummer... Hey Ron, If you still have the parts, I have a couple extra Tac-2's if you need the outer shell for yours. Let me know Doug
  8. I tried the Track N Field controller on Decathlon and didn't care for it. I can't get the hang of the three buttons, especially on the 400 m Hurdles. Personally, I had the most success with the original CX-40 Atari joystick. The Tac-2 is pretty comfortable too, it works very well. There is a technique to get the energy bar to the very end but I was never able to do it myself (exception 1500m) There is also a trick on the Pole Vault to make the athlete fly way over the bar Doug
  9. Now where did you ever hear that?? Doug
  10. Not bad! I've been playing it on the real thing the past couple days but never scored below 0:34 secs. Doug
  11. I had the same trouble then I realized the left difficulty switch was set on A (expert) instead of B (novice) Check it out, if it's switched to A, then there will be more trees which makes it more difficult. I never imagined I'd get addicted to Sky Jinks, great game! Doug
  12. Gave Sky Jinks a try today and managed a time of 34.74 on game 1B! Very challenging to fly full throttle without crashing. Hey David, got any hints? Doug
  13. Congrats David! I never played Sky Jinks that much but now I am inspired to give it a serious try I'm sure "The Champ" will be very proud of your acomplishment These days I've been working on my Kaboom! game with the small buckets. So far I managed to surpass my current high score but I would love to take it further... Take care, Doug

  16. That's an impressive lawn that guy has! Look how GREEN it is! Nice Air Raid cart too
  17. If I may add my 2 cents... I think there are also a lot of collectors that collect because they love the momories of growing up with Atari and want to get those games they either had or missed out on when they first came out. Those collectors like what they are familiar with and Pal games are not familiar to most collectors in the U.S. so there's no great urge to get them. Yes, there are also the collectors that want everything possible but I personally fall under the afore mentioned category. I don't even collect homebrew games for the same reason that I didn't grow up playing them or knowing of them. This doesn't mean I dismiss them as valid Atari games, they certainly are and I'd love to play them all but at the moment, I'm happy collecting vintage NTSC Atari games. Just my own personal preference. For me its all about recreating an environment from my past where I can escape to vintage Atari bliss... Doug

  21. You know, the cabinet and collection are very impressive but I'm more interested in that green Malibu ('71, '72?) parked outside the garage What engine is in it? I love the old muscle cars! My brother has a '70 Nova SS... Thanks for the pictures! Doug
  22. I think the 4 switch panel is superimposed over the 6 switch panel. Look closely to see what I mean. Doug
  23. Hello, I'm still learning about the 7800 system so please be kind... I just bought a 7800 today with the open port on the side labeled Expansion Interface. Was this the earliest version or later version? What was it used for? Is it less common? Any info on this mystery would be greatly accepted! Thanks, Doug
  24. The carts I have with the foam insert are Dragster, Boxing, Checkers, Fishing Derby, Skiing and Bridge. I also have the other ones up to Kaboom! with just the teeth. My guess is that Dragtser through Bridge got the foam insert. The later released carts just used the leftover cases till they were used up. Be careful if you find a cart with the darker foam. It tends to get sticky with age (built up moisture maybe?) and could fall apart if you try to insert it into your Atari. This happened to me Doug
