Weird. I typed up a reply a few days ago but it's not here. Must not have hit submit!

There seems to be more options than I originally thought. If I understand though, if I buy a "ST2VGA Black" and use it with any of the monitors or TVs on lists like the one at Best Electronics Here:

    http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/monadapt.htm

...then I can use all three ST modes on those panels that cover the 15khz to 70khz range. I can't use the SCART solutions because I live in the USA. The device I mentioned in the first post might work also albeit expensively. I like the small size of the ST2VGA Black and that it has a button to switch between color and mono. I wish there was also something similar that would plug into the Floppy Drive port for SD cards. I want to keep things compact. Back in the day I had an STF then STE then Falcon030 but I always like the original STm's sleek form factor the best. Now I've finally got one with 1mb one that looks great. Once I get it connected to a screen I'll know if it actually works !! :)

Couple of points, there are SD card solutions like the Ultrasatan and Cosmosex and if you don't know yet if the machine works, just buy a <5$ ST to VGA mono only cable and test it with any standard VGA capable monitor. Any PC monitor will work as long as it has a VGA port. It will only display hi resolution mono but you'll know for sure before investing more serious money

  2. Either the 1040STe or the MegaST depending on your preference between being able to play STe only or enhanced games or the comfort and ergonomics that are possible only in the Mega series and the TT...

....or, sell them all and get a MegaSTe, you get the best of both worlds. STe features, ergonomics of detached keyboard, no more fiddling around to connect mouse and joystick and integrated hard drive on the case... I love my MegaSTe and TT, they’re the ones I use most :)

Hmmm ... I'm not sure that 'adapter' is right name. And you said NEC LCDs - which ones ? If multisync, there is no any conversion needed, done. Then is basically same as linked UBE (what is out of stock at moment, as I see). Just properly connected lines, mode switch, + regulators for volume and video levels (certainly useful and needed in many cases) .

Mentioned  "autodetection of resolution (in software). " - I don't think that it is much useful, but affects price. Simple switch on adapter can serve, and people do not change video mode so often that it will exhaust them 🙂  What I want to say, is that such 'adapter' is really easy to make, from cheap components.

I have two NEC 1990LX or NX, they're pretty cheap...

the "adapters" and described as such that I opted are these:

    https://centuriontech.eu/product/st2vga-black/

i found they were good enough for my needs without the extra cost of the UBEs.

ive bought more things from centurion and the guy is awesome, I could not recommend more :)

I wonder if these install at the opposite angle, from the rear, then you pull them up straight towards the front of the machine, which would allow the little tip on the side arms to go through the holes in the SIMMs like is shown in the picture.

Seems easy enough to check if they're inverted... By the angle it does seem like it, but I would start by removing the already present memory and reverse for the new sticks? 👍

Of course, piracy was not beneficial to that business but you can't blame it entirely for Atari's Corp's failure. Atari made a bunch of poor business decisions that probably impacted them more than piracy.

The best industry as a whole was suffering from high levels of software piracy. What started turning developers away was that titles released for Atari/Amiga/PC would have much higher levels of piracy on Atari than on the other platforms.

i believe that since Ataris were the cheaper platform, it ended up with a higher share of people unwilling/unable to fork £30 or £40 for one game... and remember not every game was a classic.

amiga users probably had more purchasing power and PC even more. Plus PCs were much popular in North America were software piracy was much lower than in Europe.

and yes, Atari made a lot of mistakes that speeded up its fall... the STe if launched in 1987 and the Falcon in 1989 probably would have made much more of a difference

  6. This seems to be 25 years out of date 🙄

There res was a multitude of factors, for example, living in Portugal I had no access to original software unless I sent for it from abroad, which for a teen without a credit card is not easy...

i kept busy mostly with ST Format cover disks, some shareware but yes, there was a postal interchange of disks which at the time I did not realise the consequences.

i still got some great titles like F1, secret of monkey island, cannon fodder, among others. Usually I would spend my birthday and Christmas opportunities to ask adults for this

in the latter days of the ST scene and even in like 1996 I bought Proflight and some other original software since I was now working and could make those decisions on my own. I also participated in the effort to release Civilization to the Atari and drooled at Frontier 2 demo.

in recent times with developers mostly gone, I did buy some original titles off eBay but I'm under no illusion that I'm supporting whoever developed it, it just goes to whoever is selling the title.

I'm currently thinking about 1400 US$ or 1275 euros. What do you guys think, is that fair? I usually find very beautiful ones professionally re-done for US$2000+ or anywhere between pretty bad and pretty okay for US$750-1250... Mine is really somewhere in between. That is, taking your advice and looking on EBay on sold items / closed items.. But I might have looked at the wrong things...

    That sounds about right IMO.

you’ll probably sell it fast, some of the highest marked Falcons will be listed more than once...

and the drawing board, I’d still be interested 😉

Perhaps good to know. It is a European version. Even though with Falcons, that really doesn't make that much of a difference, as it is relatively easy to change around...

Wow, not used to selling my computers, so hard to think of a price...

Hi, your Falcon looks indeed in really good shape and comes with an original box and accessories, so it will be easier to sell. I'm sure that many current Falcon users might be interested because they don't have such a nice, complete machine.

where are you located? I might be interested in the drawing board...

    best regards

  9. Hello Anzak.

As the 1040ST does not have a modulator. AFAIK I have to add this circuit in order to get the proper sync signal:

    http://atariage.com/forums/topic/289781-found-a-working-scart-hdmi-adapter-on-amazon/?p=4250568

I'm not that lucky, none of my 3 monitors + tv seem to support 15khz. I'll keep an eye on ebay for one.

Just out of curiosity, I got a 13-pin cable with 2 rca connectors as "monitor cable". I suppose that's only for Atari/Commodore inputs. (tried to use it as composite video, but as expected, no signal)

The vga adapters dont use the modulator, but the 13 pin DIN monitor out
