That's actually pretty cool.

In years past Rite Aid has had famiclones with "original" games built in and a famicom cartridge slot in their seasonal toy isle for the holidays. Not recently though. I bought one once out of curiousity and wound up returning it because the thing behaved like an NES with a a bad cartridge port even on the built in games! I think most of the time when the big chains get this stuff, it is ordered along with other stuff months in advance and only with minimal communication with the vending companies and the corporate departmental ordering managers. By the way, if you see something like this at one of these major chains and want to try it out but don't really want to get burned on a bad purchase, just find out what their return policy is before buying.

You should buy a the GameDoctor SF7 that's posted in the market place... but enough with shameless self-promotion... Have you really tried all the first party games such as Super Mario World? What about the titles they licensed to Rareware like Donkey Kong Country and StarFox? You could try Earth Worm Jim or maybe could try playing the SNES version of Arkanoid.

No no... maybe it's Vasilene.

Atari Appraisals. This forum is only for getting crazy out of control price appraisals on Atari products in an effort to see how high prices on eBay can be pushed.

Do you own a device with a digital camera?
Rockin' Kat replied to CPUWIZ's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Ah, that's just too sad. It's a bit expensive and I don't really think they're quite their on the color film, but I find, their latest rev of black and white puts out good results. I like to shoot a few pictures on my Spectra and SX-70 cameras from time to time. I can't really afford to be one of those people who shoots and shoots and shoots with their Polaroids. For everything else I use my Mavica or borrow a DSLR. -

Do you own a device with a digital camera?
Rockin' Kat replied to CPUWIZ's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Um... hrmm... I've got my Cell phone... and my MacBook Pro... That's two... but there is no two. Ok ok... this doesn't have to be so hard... ...Oh yes, I have another device which has a digital camera in it. My Sony Mavica FD-71... It just... doesn't do anything else. -
No, I can get in there either. It's buggered.
-
That's odd... it would appear I can add an ICQ account, which no one ever contacts me on, but not my AIM account which always has others I know online. I am now perplexed.

What's the limit on the chat room?
Rockin' Kat replied to Rockin' Kat's topic in Site and Forum Feedback
...And I'm still getting it. I thought it was rather odd as there usually isn't anyone in it when I check. -
I totally just got this message while randomly deciding to click on the chat room link: [#CSTART-6] The IP.Chat room limit has been reached. You will not be able to join the chat room until some users first leave. I guess I'm just not cool enough to get past the bouncer, even on the internet.

I need a good TV stand for gaming
Rockin' Kat replied to HatefulGravey's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Or he could just google for: TV swivel base and look at what comes up under the shopping section. I have one from Ikea which I was going to suggest, but they don't make it anymore. The main things are to check weight capacity and to make sure you can center the weight of the TV on the thing. A lot of CRT sets have their rear "feet" fairly far in from the back of the set and can have their rear ends hang off the rear end of a stand which isn't quite as deep without issue in such cases. -
Thinking about getting a new LCD gaming TV
Rockin' Kat replied to Ransom's topic in Classic Console Discussion
To me the number one thing to watch out for with flat screen TVs is lag... lag in the image reaching the screen from the system. Some TVs are so horrendous at this to an extent that I just find it impossible to play games on them. Fortunately the Sony Bravia we got works pretty well, but a friend of mine has an earlier model from the same product line and it's such a bad delay as to make it impossible to play anything that could be remotely considered twitch-gaming. Make sure to try to demo any TV you consider buying with a video game that you're familiar with or at least make sure to give it a good trial when you buy it and return it to the store right away if it is not satisfactory(make sure they have a good return policy). Don't rely on reviews alone. Personally I intend to keep a ~25" CRT around as long as possible for older games... they just do not look good to me on LCDs. -
Oh, I caught that, I just though there was something else a bit dirtier from what people were saying.

Games that a three year old can play?
Rockin' Kat replied to jetset's topic in Classic Console Discussion
That got off topic rather fast. I don't like thinking about boogers, it makes me think back to when I used to lick the snot off my face when I had a runny nose... and thinking about that makes me gag. Personally when I was three my only involvement with video games was watching my Mom play Super Mario Brothers and Zelda. -
Yeah. I remember when I got it I was a bit excited by the possibilities it presented as it had two four-position switches on it. The first was for channels 1 through 4. The second was for systems: SNES, NES, Atari, Genesis. I thought it was cool to think that they were going to make wireless controllers for those systems... Though at the same time I wound up discontinuing use of the NES ones because the way they handled slow-mo and rapid fire was annoying(for some reason I'd keep having slow-mo turn on and couldn't figure out how to shut it off I think... it's been a while.) I could never figure out how to make them work properly and just gave up on using them.. sliding switches would have been much simpler. I just got a good price on an unused NEX arcade stick... I'm hoping it's as good as it looks.

Wow... this one is going right over my head. Normally I'm always pulling double meanings out of what people around me say... which makes people concerned when I apparently snicker or laugh for no apparent reason... but I'm not seeing it today. Maybe it's too early in the morning still.

That really blows. What I love is how people come out in the comments and more or less go "how dare you be upset about someone losing a video game collection, people died!" or "how dare you be upset about losing a game collection that took you over 20 years to get, people died!" I think a fair number of those people don't really have the capacity for compassion or empathy; the only thing they're really going for is to pose as someone who is somehow better than everyone else. I mean obviously there is a value for perspective, but there are better ways to deliver it than some of the comments I've seen there... it so often just comes off as a slap in the face.

Ah, I guess that makes the prototype they sent me back with a controller I'd sent in for repair some what rare then. Just wondering because I just took it off the old G4 tower so I could use it on my MacBookPro and got to thinking about whether I'd be able to get a second one maybe. Obviously, no dice there.
