That’s a blow to emulation across the board. Gonna be an interesting couple of months coming up.

If the intent is not piracy, what purpose does a Switch emulator have? Is it meant as a development environment for those where Nintendo doesn't offer one? To play freely downloadable games, if such exist? I agree it is comparing apples and oranges that shutting down a Switch emulator is a blow to the entire emulation experience.

Had to read through this a couple of times to really grok it, but the following seems particularly relevant:
QuoteYuzu executes code that decrypts Nintendo Switch video games (including component files) immediately before and during runtime using unauthorized copies of Nintendo Switch cryptographic keys.
This makes it sound as though the real issue at stake was Yuzu's use of Nintendo's keys. That was what allowed Nintendo to go after Tropic Haze; emulation itself is still in a safe spot by all appearances.
Having said that, it was pretty dumb of them to lift the keys wholesale and include them in their emulator. Granted, clean-room reverse-engineering of crypto keys to produce ones that don't infringe on someone else's IP isn't a realistic proposition. But when they hit that point, the giant red flags should've been obvious. Maybe they were and they ploughed on regardless; maybe they weren't and they were victims of their own ignorance. Either way, the outcome is what it is.
It's unfortunate that this is the situation Tropic Haze has ended up in, but when Compaq figured this out over 40 years ago they really don't have much of an excuse. Yuzu was quite a technological accomplishment, to be sure, and full credit to them for the work that they did.

I just spent 2 hours looking at all my status updates. All 14 pages. I don't know why. It was interesting though.

@bent_pin Thanks brother!
I may have happened upon that in the past, but forgot as of late...
Talking a bit of the old smack (haha)...

I always forget how much I enjoy "The Golden Girls". A great guilty pleasure show. Don't tell anyone.

When you're woken up by the fireworks in your neighborhood so you know the ball dropped. Even if you didn't want to know. >.<

On a whim we went to Northern Thrift today. I found an Acer AIO 9th Gen for $224. Then found out it was 1/2 price today (orange tags). It still has all the warehouse peel film on it! I’m happy to say the least. 😊

I just spent the last 2 hours reading my old website via the Wayback Machine. Wow the nostalgia is strong today.

I just found Patrick Stewart’s a Christmas Carol on my DVR. I was really excited to record it but I never watched it. I really wanted to like it because I love Patrick Stewart. Not just Star Trek, but Patrick Stewart is a very accomplished actor. So today after work I watched it. It was the worst piece of garbage I’ve ever seen. Everything felt forced it was poorly directed. And the acting was abysmal. I was disappointed to say the least.

I’m that jackass that loves Christmas year round. Will sing carols while swimming in July. @GoldLeader So I can honestly say it’s not because it’s “out of season”. I’m happy you enjoyed it @Lord Mushroom I really am. I really, really wanted to be right there with you. ☹️

I binged the entire S3 of Picard last night. Loved it. I have missed the TNG cast more than I realized. 😊

Wow. I have been looking for a late 90's/early 00's PC case to build a modern PC into. Yeah... not going to happen. Apparently this is a thing and it's suddenly expensive to do this. "Sleeper Build". Had no idea.

@Cobra Strike Down Yes that's exactly the problem. Cost prohibitive.
@Keatah I enjoy builds. Because of the repairs and upgrades I do on the side I have a lot of Frankenparts that make pretty decent PCs when I'm done. Just gave my daughter-in-law an 8th gen i5 setup that was a massive upgrade over the 1st Gen i7 she was running. Cost me $25 for a 1TB data drive. Everything else was here already.

Advance Wars finally gets a release date and I am excited.

I have 5-7 Steam keys to give away over the next few days (depending on what my son claims first). Stay tuned!

Sorry Nintendo Switch. My Steam Deck needs that SD card more than you do...

Just watched s21:e11 of Family Guy - "Love Story Guy". After seeing all 11 episodes in this season I am convinced Family Guy needs to be cancelled/retired.

I just completed for the 2nd time Persona 4 Golden. First time was on Vita 10-ish years ago. This time on the Steam Deck. Got the proper ending this time with both bonus dungeons. I love that game.

HP 2760p - 2nd Gen i7. Took almost 5 minutes to boot up and be actually usable (responsive) with a 7200 RPM drive. I swapped in an SSD and the computer responds well not 30 seconds after bootup. Never ceases to amaze me how easy and effective an upgrade an SSD is.
