  1. This pretty much sums it up for me. For me a mediocre Activision game is better than 90% of the other games out there, including Atari's own carts. I like Crackpots, but then I love games like H.E.R.O. and Frostbite.
  2. I have seen horrible cases of Actiplaque on many of their games as I am sure have many others; however, I have some that are still in excellent shape after 20+ years, so I cannot totally bash them. My question would be does keeping them boxed or in a stable environment retard the process?
  3. That's a nice haul for the price!
  4. That was my story back in 1997 when I found the first collection of 2600 games that Activision released. As cool and nostalgic as that was, I still wanted to recapture those boxed Activision and Imagic games that I foolishly sold as well as pick up the ones I never owned. I have pretty much done that as well as picked up all copies of the "Activisions" newsletter, so my primary emphasis is on the Activision patches.
  5. You know, I have long believed that there is NO better way to introduce children to the wonderful world of video games than the Atari: the controls are usually not convoluted, addictive game play, and bright colors, especially on the Activision titles. By the way, nice web page, and is that an old Mac sitting in one of the pictures on your systems page? How well I remember them from when I first started desktop design with my journalism students. A far cry from my new G4!
  6. Yep, I'm proud of his ability to discriminate great games from the rest! Don't think it overwhelms my wife, though!
  7. In addition to H.E.R.O., he is also enjoying Keystone Kapers. In fact he woke up this morning wanting to play! I have always wanted to share the games with him, but have been afraid he would be too rough on the joysticks if he became too excited, so this is a good compromise.
  8. Probably a little over 100 with about 40-50 Intellivision games and scattered games for the 5200, 7800, and Colecovision thrown in. I suppose the key is that I have most of the games I want to play and that is what is most important! Though I would like to have River Raid for the Intellivision...
  9. I had to share this story! I broke down and bought the Activision Anthology for PS2 today and one of the first games I went to was H.E.R.O. My six-year-old son was watching, wanting to know what the game was, so I told him it was called H.E.R.O. Well, being full of questions, he wanted to know all about what Roderick (wasn't that his name?) was doing, so I explained he was rescuing miners who had been caught in a cave-in. Well, the next thing he was asking was if he could play. On his first game, he made it to level four. Not too bad! Of course, this just goes to show that this game still has what it takes minus flashy graphics!
  10. This method has worked for me far more often than not, and, yes, Enduro is certainly worth the trouble. It was the first racing game I ever played, much less enjoyed. On more modern systems, most of my games have been racing based, so you could say this one started it all for me!
  11. This is a terrific idea! I for one would love to see something like this if it could ever be worked out.
  12. Fishing Derby--such a simple game but what a neat one, and the shark is just plain mean!
  13. I do remember that, though mentally I tend to look at Activision and Imagic in their heydey, before the unification and the licensed games at Activision. I realize that is not technically accurate, but hey, it is my collection after all. With that in mind, I have all of the Activision games boxed except for Checkers, Fishing Derby, and Beamrider though I do have all of them loose. For the Imagic Intellivision games, I have all boxed except Fathom, which I do have the cart with overlays and instructions--just minus the box. The packaging on the Imagic games was excellent--almost as good as some of the games themselves.
  14. Ironically, two of my favorite Activision games--Frostbite and H.E.R.O.--were two carts I did not buy back when they were released. I actually bought copies of both back in 1997 and fell in love with both. When I want to revisit the games now, they are always two that I play first.
  15. Lately, I have been more into amassing boxed games, especially as I want to complete my boxed Activision collection and would like to do the same with Imagic games for both the Atari and Intellivision, so I suppose that lends itself more to the collecting side. I have to confess that those boxed Activision games look awfully nice lined up on a bookcase, very much indeed like going into an 80s era store as you suggest, which I remember quite fondly. With that in mind, I suppose part of my collecting of the boxes is heavily for the nostalgic feel of it. That said, however, I have copies of the games to play when I need that trip down nostalgia lane or just to be reminded that a great game is more about the gameplay than the graphics.
  16. Thanks, I appreciate it!
  17. Sorry if I am asking a question most of the community knows, but just how do you "fry" the game? Thanks!
  18. I would add that The Dreadnaught Factor and Beamrider are two other games Activision made for the Intellivision that are VERY good!
  19. Thanks! Is this the same one mentioned here on the site?
  20. I currently am using the small coaxial connector that I bought at Radio Shack, but would like the ability to have two systems plugged into the television set at the same time (it is a tv that is used only for gaming by the way). Any ideas or suggestions?
  21. Now THIS brings back some VERY bad memories! I remember selling my Atari VCS and all of my carts--including boxes--to a guy with whom I worked in 1984. I forget what I thought I needed the money for, which probably says all that needs to be said about that! I started buying the carts again in 1996, managing to collect quite a few as well as most of the major classic systems, but then the birth of my son interrupted that. Now I'm trying to fill in more of those carts I sold as well as ones I never bought! It's nice to see an almost complete set of Activision games and boxes--and all issues of the Activisions newsletter which I never owned--on the shelf!
  22. It must have been at Sears, sometime around 1979, though I did not buy the system until I was in college during the summer of 1981. I remember Sears had it situated prominently on the center aisle where I watched--AND played--Air-Sea Battle and Canyon Bomber every time I went there. It totally blew my mind at the time!
  23. There's just something terribly hilarious about Goodwill marking UP a game!
  24. I thought that looked like Perez, especially since he was at DC then, working on the Titans. It ought to be a good book: Thomas, Conway, Giordano, and Perez. Wow! That's a killer line up of comic talent.
