I was late to the game. My parents finally got me a Tele-Games console in 1984, I think. It came with Asteroids (Tele-Games label) anf Pac-Man (Atari label). The price had dropped to a reasonable level, and it also offered a rebate. When I was a kid, the big deal was when the Sears Wish Book came out. Oh, those were grand days! All my Christmas presents would come from that catalog. I would spend hours going through it, especially the very back which showed the video games. They all had little screenshots so you'd know what the games looked like. If they did the same thing in the 1970s, then the screenshots would show that the games were identical to the Atari equivalents.

That was the only size shadowbox they had. I positioned the box so the photos, seal, and title of the certificate showed. I guess pushing it to the non-seal side would allow more of the certificate to be read, but I'm the only one who's going to be looking at it, anyway, LOL.

Hmmm, maybe they got all their ETs sold early when the prices would be best. Smart decision, if so. I posted this photo earlier in this thread, but here's my shadowbox Defender. I bought a pack of brads and pushed them into the backing that came with the frame. I was at Walmart yesterday and still saw those shadow boxes for sale. I could have gotten the certificate flatter, but didn't want to take it apart. I kept the cartridge and box in the bag because it smelled so bad, but removed the metal tab because I thought it would look nice separated from the other items. In retrospect, it might have looked better top center.

That looks really nice. I like how they separated the metal COA tag. I did the same with the shadow box I made for my Defender. I can see going the VGA route for ET, but only for ET. It's worth it just to protect the investment. I'm assuming ETs are still fetching a lot of money relative to the other games. Also I would think it helps keep the value up. They will probably never be worth as much as they did right after the dig due to the hype, but the good-looking presentation will help recuperate some of the value if a buyer decides to resell it. Other games wouldn't be worth it, IMO. I bought a shadow box from Walmart and I'm happy with the results.

Yes. That's exactly the reason why I don't count them in this thread. Maybe the title can be changed to reflect that. Looks like it's getting time for another update. I've been out of town a lot lately but things should settle down soon so I can add the new lists.

Defender was the game I wanted the most when I was nagging my parents for an Atari so that would definitely be one. Video Pinball and Circus Atari because they were games a friend of mine had and I just had to have them too once I finally got an Atari. Pitfall II because I remember getting it right when it came out. My mom bought the cartridge that was playing as a demo because the store was sold out. Raiders of the Lost Ark because I solved it by myself (no aid of online walkthroughs and forums back then, LOL). I'm still astounded I was able to do that.

I remember this. It sold for $35.57, but the seller wanted a ridiculous amount for shipping to cover his travel expense to the post office, time from work, etc. Got a little ugly, but I think it was finally resolved.

I've always considered them lists of one's personal favorite games.

I hope the high-res scans will be available to see online. It was a pleasant surprise to see those photos in the article, but they are small computer printouts. It would be cool to see more details in the photos.

Just recently dusted off the ol' Heavy Sixer because I had a hankering to play the homebrew Raster Fahndung. It is so difficult!

Here is the trash-becomes-treasure shadow box. I might need to adjust the pins around the certificate as it is a little wavy. It is 8 months to the day (April 26) when it was unearthed. So eight months ago, it was buried in dirt and hadn't seen the light of day in 31 years, and now it is on display. Crazy world. Also, the reading material that came with it is very interesting. Vintage newspaper clippings at the time of the initial disposal and the article includes photos from 1983 of the games' transport and concrete pour. I didn't even know such photos would be taken much less saved.

I did peek a little inside the box where it is ripped. I saw the cartridge and it is covered in dirt. I don't want to disturb it. I want the dirt to remain how it was when it was in the ground. That sounds strange, I know. Another thing is it smells AWFUL! I guess I wouldn't expect it not to being from a dump. After zipping up the bag, I washed my hands and could still smell it, LOL. The only time I will unzip it again is to remove the metal tag with the certificate number because I think I want to place that somewhere more prominent when I get the case. Otherwise, that sucker is going to stay in its bag.

My Defender arrived from the dump! I'll wait til after Christmas to look for a display case. I might frame the certificate separately from the cartridge because I don't want the case to be too big. Will probably keep it in its ziplock bag to preserve the dirt that came with it, LOL.

I didn't know there was a 3D box. I had the 2D box with 3D cartridge and manual. I always liked the 2D image better and wished it was on the cart and manual as I never thought of Pac-Man as a sphere with arms and legs. I was a literal kid, so that style of Pac-Man bugged me.

I don't believe that one is from the landfill. It is in too nice of shape. He wants over $20 shipping, LOL. Plus, he can't even spell "piece". Another thing, he doesn't mention Alamogordo in the title of the auction. It's like he doesn't want to draw too much attention.

LOL!!! I am now the proud owner of a Defender cartridge rescued from a dump! The box still has the price label ($37.95, on sale for $28.97) and has enough damage to know it was once in the ground. I only had to pay $2 over the minimum bid, so I thought that wasn't too bad. I'm going to put it (and, hopefully also have room for the other materials that come with it) in a display case. Funny, something that was buried in the ground for 30+ years is going to be in a case hanging on a wall.
