  1. Wow! Nice! If the Quadrun and Swordquest Waterworld, etc. were the real McCoys that would be some expensive material in that lamp!
  2. Yeah, the voting would be the only reality to it. I think the seeding would probably be the most famous/popular games for their time and then the winners would just be decided by votes. I guess, when I started this thread, I was thinking more along the lines of a good-natured debate on the seedings and which games would make the tournament or maybe some people would create their own bracket with winners.
  3. The only one I don't have is Joust. I thought $16 was a decent bid--not even close! Now, the only cups I'd spend that kind of the money for is Super Pac-Man and maybe Frogger.
  4. Those are nice games to find. Did you find those at a flea market? They're not those super common games like Combat, Pac-Man, E.T., etc.
  5. I like the idea of having different regions that groups certain genre of games together. Then there is more variety in the later rounds.
  6. Wow!! Slurpee cups are going for a lot lately on eBay. Someone had about ten auctions going for individual cups. 7 of the cups went for an average of $37.86 EACH! And the seller was charging over $7 each for shipping! (he probably combined the shipping for a buyer of multiple cups, but still!). I'm glad I bought the ones I have when I did.
  7. You must have never filled out those NCAA college basketball brackets for the March Madness tournament. They are a big deal where I work. All the employees and some of the customers fill them out. Tomorrow is selection Sunday to determine the seeding. I watch a lot of ESPN and that is all they talk about this time of the year (well, now it's competing a little with Tiger Woods's anticipated return). Maybe I should have posted this in the Off Topic forum since it is sports related.
  8. That large one with Asteroids and Pac-Man is my favorite. I like that he put a text label in the middle. It would look good on the wall in my living room, but I'd probably substitute Haunted House for Video Olympics.
  9. Tapper. I think the graphics are awesome and it had that Mountain Dew logo which was my favorite drink when I was a kid so that was very impressive to me.
  10. Sorry. I just assumed almost everyone filled out brackets for the NCAA college basketball tournament. I guess there are probably people here scratching their heads thinking, "What in the heck is this lady talking about?" when they saw this post.
  11. Yeah, that's right! Adventure is launching a complaint as it should have played Raiders of the Lost Ark in the second round instead of Pitfall II. Oh well, doesn't look like anyone's going to be jumping on this bandwagon anyway.
  12. Hmmmmmm, I thought I'd get responses to this. Oh well, here are my brackets and results: Adventure Region 1. Adventure 8. Jungle Hunt 3. Pitfall II 6. Haunted House 2. Pitfall 7. Congo Bongo 4. Joust 5. Raiders of the Lost Ark Adventure had a little trouble with Jungle Hunt early, but beat it easily. The Pitfalls had no problem with their match-ups, but Raiders was a slight upset of Joust. 1. Adventure 3. Pitfall II 2. Pitfall 5. Raiders of the Lost Ark In an upset, Pitfall II beat out Adventure while Pitfall had no trouble with Raiders leaving an all-Pitfall final. In the final, the original and simplest came out on top. Pitfall makes it to the Final Four! Space Region 1. Space Invaders 8. Zaxxon 3. Missile Command 6. Galaxian 2. Asteroids 7. Moon Patrol 4. Yar's Revenge 5. Defender Big upset in the Space Region! Zaxxon beats #1 seed Space Invaders (which I never cared for as I thought it was too stilted). No problems for the other top seeds. 3. Missile Command 8. Zaxxon 2. Asteroids 4. Yar's Revenge Yar's Revenge gave Asteroids all it could handle but, in the end, the #2 seed advances. Missile Command also had some difficulty with Cinderella Zaxxon, but also came out on top. In the finals, Asteroids edges out Missile Command to advance to the Final Four Skills Region 1. Ms. Pac-Man 8. Carnival 3. Donkey Kong 6. Dig Dug 2. Frogger 7. Bump N Jump 4. Q*Bert 5. River Raid Another big upset in the Skills Region. Dig Dug beats Donkey Kong! Donkey Kong tried to come back with its cool, recognizable sound effects, but Dig Dug dug a long vertical tunnel and a rock fell on all the Donkey Kong characters. Frogger almost lost to Bump N Jump, but squeaked it out (or maybe ribbeted) at the last second. River Raid pulverized Q*Bert in another minor upset. Ms. Pac-Man had no trouble against Carnival. 1. Ms. Pac-Man 6. Dig Dug 2. Frogger 5. River Raid Two major upsets in the Skills Region! Dig Dug inflated Ms. Pac-Man until she popped while River Raid shot up Frogger who had to forfeit as he could no longer limp across the street. In a tough match, River Raid edges Dig Dug to head to the Final Four! Sports Region 1. Indy 500 8. Pele's Soccer 3. Ice Hockey 6. Boxing 2. Decathlon 7. Realsports Volleyball 4. California Games 5. Pole Position As you can see, known of the traditional sports games (baseball, football, basketball) made the tournament as they were mostly pretty bad. Indy 500 had all it could handle with Pele's Soccer (one of my favorites), but advances. Realsports Volleyball put on a good show, but Decathlon's variety of games was too much. California Games and Ice hockey destroyed their opponents. 1. Indy 500 3. Ice Hockey 2. Decathlon 4. California Games Indy 500 edges Ice Hockey in a tough, physical bout. California Games had variety like Decathlon, but didn't wear out the wrist or joystick, so it advances. In the final, California Games upsets Indy 500 which was still reeling from its tough match with Ice Hockey. Final Four 2. Pitfall 2. Asteroids 5. River Raid 4. California Games No #1 seeds made the Final Four! Pitfall and the surprising River Raid make it to the finals with Pitfall winning it all!
  13. What would be considered the Holy Grail now?
  14. I like save2600's system because they're on display. That's cool. Unfortunately, all my games are at my parents' house in California as I didn't have room for them when I moved. They are alphabetized in little boxes in a metal rolling cabinet which is low so it can work as a TV stand. The cabinet also has the consoles, paddles, joysticks, some boxes, etc. The manuals I store in a small alphabetized accordion file. Once I have my collection with me again, I'd like to store them like save2600 does, so I can see them everyday.
  15. I was watching First Take on ESPN this morning and they were continuing a theme this week of doing March Madness brackets of different things like movie villains and breakfast cereals. Today they did video games. They had games on display in their studio including Atari 2600 games. The 2600 cartridges they had were Maze Craze, Space Invaders, Defender, Haunted House, Frogger and Missile Command. They had Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs and Games Trailer editor Shane Satterfield discuss their video game brackets. Satterfield had Ms. Pac-Man in his bracket. That was the only Atari game. Suggs's final four were Super Mario Bros, Madden, Call of Duty IV, and Grand Theft Auto 3 with (no surprise) Madden winning. Satterfield picked Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64, and Ms. Pac-Man with Super Mario Bros. winning. He talked about how Super Mario Bros saved the video game industry and even mentioned E.T. cartridges being buried in a desert. Suggs made fun of Satterfield's Zelda pick. Anyway, I thought it might be fun, since it is that time of the year, to come up with an Atari 2600 bracket. Who would be the top seeds? Who were on the bubble but missed out? Any upsets or Cinderellas?
  16. 11! cool! That's probably more than my website on silent film actor Henry B. Walthall gets in a week!
  17. Your thinking of a Manji thats a reverse swastika. The Nazi swastika points point to the right (when looking at it). The swirls on Yars Revenge point to the left. I know this because I used to draw Nazi swastikas all the time in my stupid & impressionable youth when I thought they were cool.
  18. Berserk was one of my favorite games during my youth. I remember when I got it, too. My mom took me to Montgomery Ward (I think it was that store). I couldn't decide if I wanted Berserk or Missile Command so my mom asked a kid who was looking at the games which he preferred. He said they were both good so my mom got me both (thanks kid!). You might want to add an "s" to "robot" in the sentence "the robot look nice with their rotating eyes." Also you might consider adding that new versions with the robot voice and with the tune "Mr. Roboto" have since been created. Otherwise, good review.
  19. On another note...Hooray I'm a Star Raider now!
  20. The swirls are pointing in the wrong direction. To look more like the Nazi swastika, it would be reversed. That is very interesting, though.
  21. Called my nearest Taco Bell (in Austin TX) and the guy said they had them. Went right over for dinner and the guy taking the orders had no idea what I was talking about. Fortunately another worker there told him they were in boxes in the back so I bought all four which was only $4 and change. Haven't played them yet. I'm not sure if I want to try to peel off the envelope tab or just slice them open at the top (I'm anal that way).
  22. Mmmmmmmm, I want some Taco Bell.
  23. You don't suck. Those are all good games (well, I don't know about Pigs in Space). You don't need the rarity 9's and 10's to get a lot out of this hobby. Yeah, from that list I only have H.E.R.O. (one of my favorites).
