  1. Guardian by Apollo, rarity 8. Found it within a bag of games at a thrift store. Apollo games are usually appalling as far as game play and graphics, so I wasn't that excited when I found it until I looked up the rarity rating, then I was pretty happy. The rarest item in my collection is a manual (not the game, unfortunately, though it is probably tougher to find than the manual) I found at a thrift store while visiting Fort Bragg CA for a family reunion. It was on the floor! I was going through a bunch of manuals and looked down and was standing on it! (no mud on my shoes, thank goodness). I saw the name "Swordquest" and thought it was probably Earthworld. Nope, it was Waterworld! I could not believe it.
  2. Sorry to bring this old thread up again, but I saw this cartridge on eBay today. It is Halloween and Texas Chainsaw Massacre double ended cartridge that says "xonon 1983". The seller doesn't seem to know much about it. It is not listed on the Atari Age site, so I'm assuming it's the repro mentioned above, but wondered what the experts here thought. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the site but the listing is called "rare halloween double ender atari game."
  3. Cool! I'll take a better photo of the cups I have and post it this evening. They're kind of hard to see with all the Pac stuff. I think I know the plushie you're talking about.
  4. My friend Crazy Carl, Just sold his Professor Pac-Man cabinet.....it was gutted and turned into a Neo Geo cabinet, but under all the paint and even burned into the screen...Professor Pac-Man was very mush so still alive! Cool! Have they ever had one on display at the classic gaming conventions? If there was one available to play, I would go to the convention just for that.
  5. Same here! I need a small. It's more like a night shirt for me.
  6. Cycling the power is the only way to get back to the menu. My understanding is that the menu is controlled by a separate chip, which boots the console and turns control over to the 2600 hardware when a game is selected. Since the 2600 games are not aware of the extra chip, they can't switch control back to it. Thanks for the info!
  7. Mine arrived yesterday. The console is so small and cute! It is 9 inches wide by 6 inches. I went right to Return To Haunted House and can't figure it out. Does anyone know how to switch to the game select screens after finishing a game? I've just been turning the power off and back on, but that doesn't seem right.
  8. E.T. had the best title screen. As far as play, I found it extremely frustrating to play on any other level than the easiest (and the easiest level was very easy). I don't know enough about the movies to know how closely the games resembled them but, like others, my vote is for Raiders mainly because I somehow managed to figure it out (probably my most baffling achievement). Solving that game was an awesome ending!
  9. Just added Mrs. Pac-Man to my collection! Only Super Pac-Man to go and I'll have the whole Pac family!
  10. Well, in a dream world, my choice would be Professor Pac-Man. I never heard of it until I read about it in a Pac-Man collectibles book. I'd just like to play it and see what it was like. Since there's only as many as 100 around, and probably not even that many, I don't like my chances of ever seeing one in person.
  11. I was watching ESPN's Outside the Lines this morning and they did a story on little known facts about the "Miracle on Ice." The night before the big game, U.S.'s goaltender Jim Craig and USSR scorer Sergei Makarov had another showdown--playing Centipede in an arcade. According to Craig, he won that game, too.
  12. Wow, there are some nice stories on this thread. My best memory isn't all that great but when Pitfall II first came out, I was so excited, my mom and I went to the mall on the day it was released (can't remember what store it was) to get it. They were sold out. My mom knew how much I wanted it so she bought the cartridge that was being used as the in-store demo (no discount was given). That had to be the only game I got when it was brand new and at its most expensive. I got my Atari (Sears model) late in the game so I usually got the games that were in the bargain bins. Anyway, I played Pitfall II and not only got the score needed for the patch (which I still have along with the congratulations letter) but I finished the game, which was rare for me because I wasn't very good at video games. Like others here, I also solved Raiders of the Lost Ark which surprises me even to this day as I'm so awful at those types of games (I can't figure out Swordquest: Fireworld at all). For new games, I always have to find walkthroughs on the Internet, but there weren't such things back in the '80s, so I solved Raiders which just my little brain.
  13. I don't know if this has been posted before, but I saw this on a friend's Facebook page and thought it was very clever:
  14. Added Q*Bert and Donkey Kong Jr. to my "Have" list. Cups I want the most: 1. Super Pac-Man 2. Frogger 3. Zaxxon 4. Defender 5. Turbo
  15. I have two Omega Races if you don't have that one that I'd like to trade. I might also be willing to trade Buck Rogers and Popeye since I don't like those cups that much for two I'd rather have. I'll check out your auction.
  16. Here are the cups I have among my Pac-Man collectibles.
  17. I really want to add to my collection of Slurpee Arcade cups. Edit: I'm happy with my collection though if anyone has a cup I do not have that they want to sell, I'd be interested. I have: Super Pac-Man Pac-Man Ms. Pac-Man Baby Pac-Man Donkey Kong Donkey Kong Jr. Q*Bert Frogger Asteroids Defender Galaga Galaxian Popeye Omega Race Jungle Hunt BurgerTime Centipede Centipede 1983 Buck Rogers Moon Patrol Front Line Turbo Robby Roto Zaxxon
  18. Wow! I like just looking at the photos! There's stuff I've never heard of before. All the Sears stuff brings back memories as the 2600 system I had as a kid (and still have) was a Tele-Games. Good luck in your sales, they'll be no lack of interest and willing buyers on this site!
  19. I was wondering if anyone could indentify this console I played in my youth. My parents bought it for me at a yardsale in the early 1980s (1981 or 1982), so it probably came out in the 1970s. It was an Odyssey that had three built-in games (it did not use cartridges). It had three versions of pong built-in. The first two were two-player games and I think the third was a one-player game where the player hit the bowl against a wall. It was white with two knobs (right on the console, there were no separate "paddles") that controlled the players. I only played it a short time and then my folks finally bought me a 2600, so that was the end of the Odyssey.
  20. Sorry. I meant to post this in the "Classic Gaming" forum.
  21. Hi: I'm fairly new here, so I'm not sure if this question has been asked before: What was your greatest find(s) in the wild? Game-wise, my best find was Stargunner (with a color label) at a thrift store. I had never seen a Telesys game before, so I wasn't sure if it would work in my 2600, but I thought, for a $1, what the heck. Turned out to be a super game to play. Only later did I find out it was a pretty rare game as well. My best find was a manual I discovered in Fort Bragg, where I was visiting for a family reunion. I decided to check out a thrift store along the way, and there was a 2600 6-switch there (I only had a 4-switch at the time) with a bunch of games (most common, but some were decent) and manuals. The clerk said I could buy the 2600 and games for $10 and that I could have the manuals for free. I was excited about getting the manuals because you rarely find those at thrift stores. As I was gathering up the manuals, I noticed I was standing on one. It said "Swordquest" but the picture was not familiar. Since I already had Fireworld, I assumed it was Earthworld until I got to the car. You can probably guess what it was....Airworld. No, just kidding.....Waterworld.
  22. My favorite is Dig Dug. Great graphics, great sound and HILARIOUS!
  23. I type my list on my computer and print out a new copy every now and then. I use little symbols to indicate whether I have the box, manual, or whether a game was part of my original collection I had as a kid. I also list its AtariAge rarity rating (in bold type if its 5 or higher) and how I rank each game as far as graphics and game play. I also arrange the list by company (Activision, Data Age, etc.). I need a list because, in my advancing age, I just can't remember what I have sometimes.
  24. If you were the one who was excited about getting a 5200 game (I forget its name), but was disappointed in not getting Berserk voice enhanced then, yes, I was the one in the orange shirt.
