Nope. That would be the Fairchild Channel F which was released a few months before the 2600.

 

 

 

 

What were the first 3 or so Games for Atari 2600 ?

 

The 2600 had nine titles available at launch:

 

Combat (the pack-in title)

Air-Sea Battle

Star Ship

Indy 500

Street Racer

Video Olympics

Surround

Blackjack

Basic Math

 

 

Tempest

 

Were all those games original Titles or were most clones from other machines.

 

And i love the game Surrond i might go play that rite now since ya mentioned it!

Leonard is right. Before that, it just seemed like a fancy Pong machine. Consumers did not understand that the system would be anything more than Combat, etc. And why not? None of the other similar devices were. Space Invaders came out, and it was actually a pretty good port, and the game was huge at Drive-Ins, Theaters, Arcades, Bars and Laundromats. Suddenly the VCS made a whole lot of sense after Space Invaders. If it could do that game, it could do other arcade games, too. And it wasn't as blocky as the other games, to boot!

I know... Emulation of a Pong Machine on a PC would not feel right as the real thing.

I read somewhere the Atari 2600 was released in 1977.

 

If so y did it take so long to be popular. Was it too expensive ?

Or werent the Games too good.

 

I used to think Space Invaders was one of Atari 2600s First Games.

 

Almost everyone in Australia had a copy of Space Invaders because it came in the box with the Atari 2600 when u brought it.

Well i never got my Atari 2600 until 1984. It certainly gave me a lot of Fun that year !

Yeah im from Australia and heres an example (edited from above) of what i recalled it looking like.

 

Althought i never got hold of any Cartridges for this...

 

the Background was always Blue No matter what. Bowling was definately Blue and Yellow.

 

My Case was Black 2 not white.

I would like to know if theres any of the very old Pong Machines r emulated because i missed out on Pong in my life because my Gaming life began with a RCA Studio 2, then Atari 2600, Atari 800, C64, Amiga, etc...

 

I heard some had about 4 built in Pong Games.

the Only I have played was a small pong console and i remember it had 4 games. Like squash, tennis, cant remember the other 2 !

 

Any Emulation around of these old playable stuff! ?

I caught up with an Old Machine i onced own before i sold this for an Atari 2600.

 

 

Unless ive gone strange it says this console was Black and White only.

I believe thats untrue!

 

I Sure it had colours because i remember Doodle as i recall making colour drawings.

 

Can anyone comfirm if this had colour ?

A lot of more advanced 800 Games now work thanks to Atari800win Plus.

 

Esciapply the hacked Games.

 

 

But im still looking for some DOS boot up disk for my boot error Games

and use "XL model" emulation not the 800 emulation as these machine is newer... most "old" software should run in this mode...

'Boot Error' usually means there is no DOS on the disk. Find a ATR image of a Atari Dos and put your program on it. Then load it from DOS with the L command.

I tryed searching on Google for ATARI DOS DOWNLOAD or something.

Just didnt find what i wanted.

 

But i guess i somehow recall there was a DOS Disk u had to insert first in the drive and then the bootless Game u want to play.

I never seen a Real Atari ST before. I didnt know it was compataible with the old Atari 8bit software

Does anyone know if theres an Atari 2600 Emulator avalible that supports PAL Emulation.

 

Because those Roms on Atari 2600 Emulators are too Sharp compared to the old blurry color TV set we used in the 70 and early 80s.

 

Plus PAL Emulation also blocks out the visible bugs and that and make those i lot more enjoyable to play.

[Atari 400/800 Emulation Problems]

Hey Everybody

 

Those old Atari 8-bit computers r my second favourite 8bit Machine and i miss this computer so im now emulating it.

 

About 40% of those Games i downloaded i can never get to work

 

I mainly use Atari800win v2.6a and its working fine. A bit slow for my 266mhz machine but it useable.

 

But how compatiable is it. I can plays lots of ATR games and stuff. But a Huge selection from the Net never work.

Not to mention my Favourites...

 

So 1 question...

 

Whats the most popular Atari 400/800 Emulator that most people use ??

Or do i gotta download dozens of Ataris Emulators all the time...
