  1. Hwy 80 Garage Sale time again. Hoping to go look through some garage sales after work today. Scored big a couple years ago, but worried about weather cutting things short this year.

Found nothing, but didn't go to any outside of town. Only game related stuff I found was a crusty PS1 controller and an empty case for the Nintendo DS Hello Kitty game. That was still like five or six garage sales. Unfortunately, that late in the day (around 5:30), there were several that had already shut down. I hate that they're trying to do it during the week, while I'm at work, but I understand.

  2. For Defender... I think of that song We'll Make Great Pets...
  3. Hey guys, I finally played some more stuff! lol Sega Master System/Mark III Bomber Raid (emulated) - 10 min (A tough shooter. I'm not very good at them, but I like to try them. I'd probably be better if I spent more than 10 minutes at a time with them.) Sega Genesis Richard Scarry's Busy Town (emulated) - 27 minutes (This is barely a game. It's geared toward the very young gamer, and it shows. But, it's done pretty well and has a lot of digitized voices. Unfortunately there's just not much to do. I played for 27 minutes and did almost everything.) Sega Saturn Panzer Dragoon - 19 min (Just played til first game over. It's a fun game, but it would benefit from having a Saturn arcade stick.) Panzer Dragoon Zwei (emulated) - 12 min (Pretty much the same as the above. Played til first game over. Not as familiar with this one, so it took less time. lol) PGA Tour 97 - 45 min (Got 2 over par on TPC at Sawgrass. There's only two courses and I usually play the other one. There were some putts that I think I was definitely screwed on. Oh well.) Radiant Silvergun (emulated) - 11 min (This is a rough game. Definitely would benefit from lots of playtime and practice... and a better controller. I'm using my XBox One controller on these emulated games and it's not always the best at playing Saturn games that use six face buttons.) GameBoy R-Type (emulated) - 12 minutes (This is a pretty darn good scaled down version of R-Type. It's probably best played in emulation to keep from having to deal with the GameBoy's screen. Some of the same tricks on the bosses can be used here. I got to the third stage... it's the stage that's really just a big warship or whatever... it's the stage I always die on when I'm playing the TurboGrafx version and this was no different.) Lynx Legend of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (emulated) - 20 min (This looks to be a really good platformer... especially for a hand held. It's colorful and has good music. But that's not uncommon for Disney games. The screen doesn't scroll very well vertically. Drop down a hole or jump up higher and the action stops while the screen moves up or down and then play resumes. It's serviceable and has been done in a lot of games, but it'd be nice if it didn't do that here. I played to my first game over.) Arcade (MAME) Sonic Wings 3 (emulated) - 37 min (This is actually a NeoGeo game, so if there's a separate designation for that, I guess put it there. Vertically scrolling shooter with about ten different planes/characters. Each plane of course has different main weapons and special weapons. Some of the special weapons are crazy (like turning into a giant robot that stomps along smashing stuff). There's cut scenes after stages and the characters say things. The first stage is the same for everyone, but the second stage changes. Not sure if that's based on what character you're using or if it's determined by something else. You can pretty much quarter feed your way through most of the game, but at some point, you no longer continue right where you left off. It might be the last level, but at that point, continues start you back at the beginning of the level, so you have to complete that level on one credit. I didn't make it.) Tetris (emulated) - 7 min (The Atari Tetris arcade game. Never played this one before... I mean, I've played Tetris of course... who hasn't... just never this version. It's not bad, but again, I think it'd be better with a real arcade joystick. I didn't get far. I'm better at Tetris on my GameBoy, even with the bad screen.) TurboGrafx-16/PCEngine Gradius (emulated) - 23 minutes (Played this a few times, then figured out how to turn the turbo on in the emulator. That made things a little easier, of course. But I still didn't get far.) Darius Plus (emulated) - 5 minutes (Darius is such a tough game... mainly because so many things need multiple hits to kill them. The turbo helped, but dodging bullets meant I couldn't concentrate fire on a target and I was quickly overrun. That first level theme, though, Captain Nemo I think it's called, is still one of my all time favorite video game themes.)
  4. This morning, my phone said it was 6:30 and my computer said it was 7:30. Took me a while to figure out whether it was Apple or Microsoft that was pranking me.

  5. My girlfriend was watching a show called Person of Interest and they used some PS3s to make a super computer. I think it's Season 5, Episode 1.
  6. Think there was a thread about video games in TV shows, but too lazy to find it now. Anyway, GF watching a show where they used PS3s to make a super computer for something. =)

  7. Point out someone's spelling mistake on Twitter and suddenly I'M the asshole... sigh...

Twitter isn't a place for conversation, it's a place to receive a random firehose of trivia and nonsense with which to waste time.

But we pointed it out to you. We may not be "assholes", but as you can see

there's a bit of annoyance when we do that ;)

  8. Guy at work smashed his finger pretty good today. I didn't see it, but our safety guy used the phrase, "lots of blood." Be safe out there, everyone.

I have seen a finger chopped off of a mans hand :(

I did hear that it sounds like he's going to keep the finger.

He was using a horizontal band saw (google Doall 400S to see what I'm talking about). It has a clamp to keep the material being cut in place and he got his finger in the clamp when it closed.

  9. Dammit, I'm going to make myself sit down and play a game tonight... probably...

playing M.U.L.E. tonight is a must!

  10. I was born in '74 and remember playing a pong clone when I was very young. I don't remember the year, though. I do remember what house it was, though, so my older sisters or mom might be able to help me figure out the year... I don't remember playing it when not in that house, though. We may have gotten a 2600 before we moved, but again, it's all fuzzy. There's a good chance it was still just the late 70's.
  11. I have a plug-n-play that has Pole Position where you twist the joystick to steer. It works pretty well. Certainly better than just using a joystick alone, but takes some getting used to.
  12. I might refuse another PS2. I have enough of them already.
  13. Another 35 minutes of Lego Marvel Superheroes on Xbox One for me.
  14. None of the original NES port? That's the one I had.
  15. For the most part, no. Many of them come out with a new version every year with little more than updated rosters. They're bought by the tons and within six months to a year, the new one comes out and last year's game is tossed aside or traded in for pennies so they can get a little off the new one. I don't have much interest in real life sports at the moment, but I used to be into various sports at different time... but even then, I didn't go out and buy the newest sports game to play as "my" team. I have several sports games in my collection, but few of them are ones that I specifically picked out to buy. Most came as part of a larger lot or came with a used system I bought or whatever. The exception is racing games. I enjoy the Forza Motorsport games and have most of them.
  16. The one port never bothered me much. Most games were 1 player only and most of the time I was the only one around to play it. I did (and still do) have a multi tap and second controller... but they were seldom used. I would take my TG-16 over to a friend's house sometimes and we really only used the multitap on World Class Baseball. That said, it was seen as a weakness in the system and therefore was probably one of several reasons why people went with the Genesis instead. Edit: Oh, and one of the ports on my tap has some issues, too... didn't stop working, but can be finicky... think it's port 2...
  17. Crazy thing is, not 15 minutes after I "fixed" the error problem on the Xbox website, it quit working again. Same error.
  18. Trying it, but the website seems borked or something. Won't let me log in or go to "my account". Every time I click on it, it gives me an error. Request took too long. HTTP Error 400. Edit: Okay, deleted cache and cookies and that fixed it. And I was way off... I guess I was being conservative? Anyway, the XBox site says I played 1519 minutes... Almost twice what I thought. lol So carlsson, I guess change my time. =)
  19. I didn't time this one, thinking that it was tracking the time in the save file, but it doesn't appear that it was... Xbox One Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 - 600 minutes (Guessing on this one... I know I played it most of the day on Saturday and a bit more on Sunday. I know they're made for kids, but I enjoy these games. Just lots of stuff to do. Some of the puzzles are mildly difficult and I got a little lost on what to do on a couple of the stages. The game looks great. There's tons of characters to unlock, but the game seems to focus on some far more than others. There are certain obstacles or elements in the game that only characters with certain skills can interact with. For example, something that looks like gold metal can only be destroyed by someone with a heat-based beam attack. There are several characters that have this kind of ability, but it always defaults to Iron Man. I mean, you come upon one and stand close to it and it shows a pic of Iron Man, go to the character select screen and it already has Iron Man highlighted. I got to where I would specifically try to find someone else with the same ability, or even create my own Lego superhero with the ability I wanted to avoid using the same ones all the time. I feel the game gets boring if all you do is use Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Groot, Ms Marvel, Thor, Black Panther and Black Bolt all the time, but it seems 90% of the puzzles can be solved with these characters, even though there are probably 200 characters in the game. Another complaint is the controls. Especially the flying controls. Say you’re playing Iron Man and you’re hovering in mid air and you want to just look around. Too bad. Looking up makes you fly up and looking down makes you fly down. What’s worse is the camera doesn’t necessarily move so that you can see what it is you’re wanting to look at. Fly up to the top of a building and start to descend… find out you weren’t over the top of the building because the camera sucks so you have to fly back up and try again. Or, there’s a collectable hidden somewhere nearby and you couldn’t see it from the ground, so you try flying up to check somewhere else, but you can’t because just looking around makes you move. I don’t remember this being a problem in the first Lego Marvel Superheroes. And maybe there’s something I’m missing, who knows.)
  20. XBox One Tempest 4000 - 30 min (Wow... I think I could probably get into this one... definitely a different feel than T2K, which, so far, I still like better... Some things I don't like is the momentum and the fact that the enemies congregate around the top of the level when you die. Too hard to recover from without using a zapper. But I do love the sound and visuals. BUT... I am currently annoyed that it doesn't seem to want to let me post scores to the leaderboard. I'll play a game, and then look at the leader board and it says I have no scores. What am I supposed to do to get this to work? I can see friends' scores, but mine won't show up anywhere. Grrr... )
  21. I worked in Electronics at Target when the PS1 was out. I remember seeing pallets full of Playstations and Saturns at Christmas. I bought my Playstation there and a ton of games. The Playstation eventually quit working. It was doing that thing where you had to turn it upside down to work. But that was righ about the time I got my PS2, and it was backwards compatible so I didnt care.
  22. It's not through Steam. I'm on XBox One. I'm signed in and online.
