I've really enjoyed my Atari Flashback portable. Especially after adding a crap-ton of roms on an SD card.

I've wanted that Retro Game Challenge for a while, but it's never been at the top of my list, so to speak. I've seen it a couple of times, but haven't gotten it. I think it was a low print run game. Love the show it's based on GameCenter CX. Kacho ON!

Totally forgot to post my times. I'll add them into this week's. It wasn't much, but it was some.

I don't know that I've ever really played many other boxing games. I have Rocky for the Master System, but haven't really played it other than just making sure it works. Maybe I'll try that some later...

Not really a price drop, but just as good... I heard that you buy one at $100 at GameStop and they give you a $25 gift card. I mean, just as good if you can find other things at GameStop you want.

I put in quite a few hours on Suikoden in one week last year... but don't remember how much. I can't imagine doing that now...

I haven't done preorders since the Playstation days. Don't have any big plans for "new" games other than probably getting RDR2 at some point and getting some 3DS games since I finally have one of those.
Speaking of 3DS games... I guess there are some that are only for the new 3DS? I've seen some in the e-shop or whatever it's called that say "new 3DS". I have the original, will they not work on it? I think the new one has more memory or something that maybe the games need?

I have a soft spot for Sonic 2- it's one of a few games that i have the level layouts memorized and can blow through the game.
Sonic 3 is really cool (I love the graphics and music), but I just didn't play it as much.Heh, after the first Sonic, the one that I've probably played the most is Spinball. lol

PC
Machinarium - 268 min (Neat looking game. Point and click adventure. The lack of text or voice is always interesting. Nice how they can get you to understand what you're supposed to do next (usually) without and verbal/text clues. I did get stuck a few times and consulted a walkthrough, but still pretty fun game.)
Deponia - 100 min (Not too far into this one. The standard point and click adventure. Seems pretty fun so far.)

Sega Genesis
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - 15 min (Never played any of the Sonic games much other than the first one. Played a bit of this via the Sonic Mega Collection on GameCube.)
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - 15 min (GF and I played the racing vs thing in this game. Had some fun. Those pinball levels always get me lost. Played via Sonic Mega Collection on GameCube.)
Arcade (MAME)
Gyruss - 47 min (Another game I kept playing until I realised it had no ending. lol I remember playing this and being terrible at it on the NES. There's a dip switch setting on the arcade machine that gives 255 men, so I went for it. Was going to play until I ran out of men, but got bored of it after a while.)
Neo Turf Masters - 35 min (Had never really played this before. Had some awesome holes, and had some terrible holes. A pretty fun, fast, arcade golf game.)

Grabbed it and another couple of point and click adventures. First of anything I've gotten from GoG.

Heh, was just about to mention that I forgot to add that time over here. Glad you got it!

Going back and looking at mine, the arcade game Muchi Muchi Pork is ineligible. It was a 2007 game.

I have a feeling I'll be adding to my 2600 collection... my ex asked me for something the kids could get me, and I told her they could get me any 2600 game/games they wanted and gave her a list of what I already have. Just told her to tell them to pick whatever looked fun or had a good name or whatever. lol
Other than that, probably not much. Pretty thin 'round here right now because of some unforeseen expenses...

I actually got my girlfriend to play some this week! lol She has a gaming achievement that I never have gotten... back in the day, she beat Sonic the Hedgehog. I don't think she got all the Chaos Emeralds, but still, I haven't done it.
Sega Genesis
Sonic the Hedgehog - 90 min (We kinda played together, passing the controller back and forth between deaths. I played longer than she did, but she's out of practice. I forgot what the story was, exactly, about how she beat it back then. Something about living somewhere where she had nothing else to do, no car, no money, or whatever, so she just played Sonic to pass the time. Eventually beating it. Anyway, we had fun with it and she mentioned maybe playing Sonic 2 some time.)
Streets of Rage - 30 min (After playing Sonic, I started up Streets of Rage (these are both on the 6-pak game we were using to play Sonic). I like Streets of Rage 2 better, but this is still a pretty good beat-em-up. I did feel I got hit a lot more than in SoR2. A bit harder to avoid damage at times. And, as usual, the first button I pressed was the special attack button... and then I never remembered to use it again. lol... Anyway, this has some great music. I let the music play at the game over screen for probably an hour... just looping in the background while I started surfing the web.)
Arcade (MAME)
Altered Beast - 35 min (Quarter fed this one to the ending... started getting really annoyed by the knock back and difficulty in getting to the white wolves for the powerups. I probably had them pass me by a good seven or eight times before I could get three powerups on the last level. Anyway, I remember playing it in the arcades back in the day. Never was that good at it, but I usually gave it a try. Wise fwom yow gwave!)
Batsugun - 15 min (I'm not that great at shooters to begin with... and this is kinda one of those "bullet hell" shooters, so I was even worse. I really need to get a better joystick. The Playstation one I'm using would be perfect if the joystick worked properly. I mean, it works, but it has some dead zone issues... can really make it difficult to reliably maneuver in the tight spaces that a bullet hell shooter requires.)
Battlezone - 10 min (Got this one to work with a PS2 dual analog controller. Worked pretty well, but I suck at this game. It's one I know I could get better at if I practiced, but right now it's one that will probably get limited playtime simply because there are so many options. I like the green wireframe/vector graphics, but it's not a terribly deep game.)
Muchi Muchi Pork - 5 min (Another bullet hell I had to play for the name alone. There's lots of pigs involved in the game... but it's in Japanese, so I'm not sure what they were for other than points...)
Ray Storm - 5 min (This one seemed to have some emulation problems... kinda stuttering and playing slower than it should. The music sounded off, too. Too bad as I was looking forward to playing this one. Oh well, I have the Playstation version (emulated as well) and it seems to run fine. Who knows... possibly the version of MAME, or a bad image, or... I dunno... )

Instead of hacking it with the hardware as it is, why not just take it out and mod it to hold a Pi of some kind and put what you want on it. Just wire it up to use the current jacks and such... if that's possible. I mean, I have no experience with building Raspberry Pi stuff at all, but if the emulation is iffy and the space is limited and you're not sure if you can get into it anyway and so on and so on and so on... why not just buy it for the nice case and controllers and replace the innards?

Shadows of the Beast was one of those games that I always thought looked nice in screenshots, but I never liked the way it moved. The main character doesn't really move left or right on the screen. He just changes directions and the background moves the other way. It just never looked like real movement to me, if that makes sense.

The family resemblance is so strong, it just looks like the same sprite. Strong genes... lol

I'll second Asteroids on the 2600. The default, first game mode can be played indefinitely.

Messing with MAME...
Okay, this week was mostly spent playing some emulated arcade games... I've got a ton of them somehow... anyway...
Arcade
AeroFighters - 30 min (I love shooters, so while many of the games on my MAME list are going to be curiosities that I check out once and then rarely if ever come back to, the shmups are the ones that I'll surely be returning to. AeroFighters is a vertically scrolling shooter with modern day jet fighters. I chose the F-16 looking one for this play. It's a great game, but I do have one little issue with it. When a power-up comes on the screen, it seems to stay too near the top of the screen. I know there should be some risk vs reward, but 90 percent of the time when I go to the top of the screen to get a power up, something comes on the screen and crashes into me. I swear, in the entire play through, I think I only got past the second power up twice.)
Darius - 15 min (And here I thought that the extra wide play field would allow me to see danger coming from a long way off and make the game easier. No. I was wrong. Still tough game. Doesn't help that the powerups seem to go off screen too fast most enemies are behind obstacles or take multiple hits to kill. Oh well... still looks super cool.)
R-Type - 10 min (I did okay... got to the second stage end boss pretty easily, but got killed a few times there so stopped. My joystick is a little loose and hinders me sometimes on precise movements... which you kinda need for a game like R-Type.)
Scooter Shooter - 5 min (I had no idea what I was doing in this game. lol)
Rampage - 128 min (I kept quarter feeding this thinking, "I'm gonna just quarter feed my way to the end." Well... found out Rampage doesn't have an ending. So there I was on day like 115 with cities starting to repeat before I finally looked it up. I mean, I had fun, but I probably wouldn't have spent as long if I knew then what I know now.)
SeaWolf - 5 min (A periscope type submarine shooting game. Not bad, but the gameplay was a little shallow... lol)
I think I actually played a lot more, but didn't time stuff or write things down. I'll do better in the future. Honest! lol

Pat and Ian talking about the mini Vectrex... and reading this thread... (Unfortunately, he starts off saying AtariAge, but then mixes us up with Nintendo Age.)

My closest Goodwill never has anything. I think in the three or so years I've lived in this town, I've found one game that I bought (Tiger Woods game for OG Xbox).
The next closest one is about a 30 minute drive away and is a little better. Best deal I ever found there was a GameCube controller for $5. Also found an Atari power supply for a 400 or 800 or something...don't remember now. I sold it because I didn't have a use for it, just knew it was worth more than the $3 they were charging.
Other than that, the best ones I found were half a country away near Portland Oregon (I live in Texas.) Lots of games and accessories. One had one of the original Playstations (not the PSOne) just on the shelf. That at one of my local ones would have been behind lock and key.

My times...
TurboGrafx-16
Psychosis - 45 min (Watched a streamer play a bit of Paranoia (the PCE version) and decided to get mine out and play a bit. Back in the day, I completed the first loop with one man. My best run this time was getting about half way through the fifth stage with one man.)
Ninja Spirit - 9 min (A fun ninja game. Similar to something like Revenge of Shinobi or Ninja Gaiden, but much easier.)
Legendary Axe - 14 min (Just messing around with this one... played until my first death. Died at the boss of Zone 3. Don't usually have too much trouble with them, but couldn't get the timing right.)
Sega Saturn (emulated)
Gunbird - 35 min (So I was talking to someone about how I wished I had a Sega Saturn Arcade stick and a way to convert it to USB so I could play some shooters and stuff on my laptop, when I remembered I have a PS1 arcade stick and a PS/PS2 to USB adapter. So I played some Gunbird, on my laptop, with an Asciiware PS1 arcade stick. That joystick is not in top form... the joystick feels off... like it's broken or sticking or something, but it still works. I took it apart one time, but didn't see anything obviously wrong with it, so I put it back together. oh well... Gunbird is a Japanese title. It is a vertically scrolling shooter with several cartoonish/anime type characters to choose from. They each have different weapons and speeds and such. I chose the one that looks like a witch on a broomstick for my play this time around, but there's one that looks like a cross between a robot and a pot belly stove that I've used in the past. Fun game, but can get pretty hectic (as all shooters should).)
Arcade (emulated)
1941 Counter Attack - 20 min (An excellent game. Another vertically scrolling shooter, set in the titular year, and the World War that was going on. I really like the 1943 NES game, and this is no different. There are some hard parts... the screen scrolls in all directions in some levels and there are sections where you are having to maneuver through tight passages with enemies firing at you from behind... this was made to munch quarters though...)
Bosconian - 10 min (Played through until my first game over. Playing this with the PS1 joystick setup described above. This will now become my preferred way to play Bosconian. Don't remember what level I got to, but my high score was 66600. lol)
Twin Hawk - 5 min (Another vertically scrolling shooter with a WWII theme. Much harder than 1941. Will have to try some more later, I'm sure.)
Neo Geo (emulated)
Metal Slug - 40 min (I'm pretty sure this was emulated through MAME, but it's a Neo Geo game, so I put it in a separate section. It was emulated as an arcade game, with having to enter credits and such, so who knows. I've always liked the Metal Slug games even though I suck at them. I have probably played this one the most, but still have to brute force my way through it with a lot of simulated quarters. It was while playing this that I noticed how off the sound was on my setup. I had my laptop connected to my TV via HDMI. I have a Samsung sound bar, but noticed the sound was lagging behind the video. I quit playing for a while to figure out how to adjust the delay on the sound bar, and that ran into another thing and to another thing... so I quit playing for the day. Now I'm fighting other demons with MAME so I can get more games going.)

Well, $59.99 is less than $599999994063921.75, so I'm not sure why you don't trust it. lol
