What have you actually PLAYED tracker for 2019 (Season 12)
Eltigro replied to carlsson's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Thunder Force III is one of my favorite games on the system, but it's been a while since I really sat down to play it much. I've never beaten it though... it has a reputation for being an easy shooter, but I have a reputation as sucking at shooters. lol I also have Thunder Spirits for the SNES. Pretty much the same game except 1. You have to turn on auto-fire as it's not turned on by default, 2. You don't get to choose the order of the stages, and 3. SNES slowdown makes some parts easier (debatable). I have Thunder Force 2, also, but it's quite a bit harder, I believe. I'm certainly not as good at it, but I've also spent less time on it. I've played Lightening Force in emulation, but I cringe at the idea of spending money on something with that spelling mistake of a title. -
Greater than or equal to 1. But seriously, it really varies. I have one N64 controller for its four ports. But I don't play it much... and the only game I have is one player anyway. I have three TurboGrafx controllers for its one port. (I have a TurboTap, so I guess it's really up to 5? Are we counting that?) I have probably around five NES controllers for its two ports. I have four GameCube controllers for its four ports. I'm honestly not sure if I have one or two Dreamcast controllers, but I'm leaning toward one. And also honestly not sure how many Atari 2600 controllers I have... don't know that I've had them all in the same place at the same time before. In the end, the first thing I said, greater than or equal to 1, is about right for me because it's really pretty rare that anyone other than me is playing any of my systems. It's nice to have backups, though, and variations and extras in case someone else is playing, though.

Curved TV With Your Classic Console?
Eltigro replied to blainelocklair's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Extra wide screens? Darius mode enabled! -
Just one game again... still working on Wind Waker. GameCube Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - 409 min (Still going through and finding the treasure maps and going and getting those. Using a guide to find the ones I'm missing. Haven't really progressed much farther in the main story, but will probably do the next dungeon (Wind Temple I think it's called) this week."

They were at PRGE in Oct, too. They seem to be pretty popular at the shows.
-
I feel like, based on the sheer volume of ads that've been forced on me through various online services, that I've probably already seen the entire first season of The Orville.
-
It's not a bad show. I'm hoping season 2 dials back the crude humor a bit. I don't mind crude humor, but it feels out of place in such an otherwise earnest love letter to Star Trek.
-
IMO, crude humor aside, What's Great is that it continually goes where Star Trek won't! In Star Trek they're not Jokers, they're almost too serious at times,...They don't make (pop culture) references, They are professional to a fault...The A Team...The Orville is more like The C Team if you catch my meaning...I dig both though, But, TBH I like The Orville Better (ducks haha)...Well better than all Star Trek except for The Original Series.
-
Not to drag out a point too much (Too late ha!...S'all right,...No one's still reading this), but it also definitely depends on your mood. For a good sci fi mystery set in space, you have Star Trek...For a fun adventure, you have The Orville.

PS2 turns 20 next year, isn't that crazy?
Eltigro replied to DragonGrafx-16's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, as far what's classic, everyone's going to have their own views and opinions. I like the year 2000 angle because it keeps it clean and is pretty close to where I would draw the line. I don't mind the format of the media (disc vs cart), but that time/generation is right around where they were no longer just game consoles. Dreamcast? Pure games. PS2? Games and DVD player. And just about every system afterwards was also a DVD Player or Web Browser or Netflix box or... (The GameCube being a notable exception.) But of course this just makes sense when talking about consoles... classic computers? Heh... who knows... But again, that's just my opinion. -
Yeah, that's the one I was trying to remember. The only game anything seems to mention is Duck Hunt. I'm not sure if that's because that's the only game it works with (like the Modern Mallard) or if it's because that's the most well known NES Zapper game.
-
Thanks... I'm taking a few days away from it as we speak. I played for about 4 hours Saturday and had a huge headache... may have been how I was sitting or something, but that noise that the mirror shield makes in the Earth Temple certainly wasn't helping. Other Zelda games tentatively on the list are Link's Awakening and Link to the Past, but we'll see.

No classic gaming for me this week as I'm concentrating on Windwaker. Think I'll probably try switching back and forth between modern and classic while doing this "finish some game" resolution. Probably go back after this and finish up Albert Odyssey as I'm pretty close to the end of it and it wasn't so long ago that I've forgotten where I was. -
Only 1 game for me this week... GameCube Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker - 1393 min (My New Year's Resolution was to finally finish some games that I've had for a while but never finished. This is the first one. I got this game new back in the day... got it with the special 4 in one disc with Zelda, Zelda 2, OoT, and Majora's on the same disc. I've never finished any of those, either. lol It's hard to explain where I am or what I've done in game so far, but I just finished the Earth Temple and have done a lot of wandering and exploring and treasure hunting and such. There's lots of side things you can do in this game, obviously, and I'm doing almost all of them. There's one where you take pictures of all the different NPCs in the game for a gallery, but I'm avoiding that one as I think that's a large part of why I quit playing it previously. I thought about playing this on my Wii, but decided against it and I'm using my GameCube... blurry composite and all. I do keep wondering how much better it would be with one of those adapters, but I'm not gonna get one of those any time soon.)
-
I haven't had any connector issues out of my current front loader, but have had them in the past. My current one has a power supply issue I think... wavy lines that are worse than the jail bars that are on my top loader that I usually use. But BLW has been around for a long time, I think and seems like it'd be a great way to go if you do have connector issues.
-
Yeah, I was going to say that I've seen glitched graphics like that because of bad connections or dirty contacts, but that usually is a thing that shows up as soon as you press power (in my experience) and not something that starts off good and then gets worse. But if it works it works...
-
Yeah, the Lumines games and Puzzle Quest are not me at all... but I put quite a few minutes in the other ones. I'll be putting in some time on the PS2 this year, too. All as part of my "I need to finish these games" resolution. It seems most of the games I've thought of that I need to finish are "modern" games, so I should be adding a lot.
-
I still need to get some 3DS games. Haven't really been looking, though. Money has made other things a priority. Other than that, as far as things to purchase goes, I still probably have most of my same goals as last year. A much cheaper goal I've set for myself is the goal of finally finishing a lot of games that I have had for a while, but never finished. I've already put in around 10 hours on a new Windwaker run. Maybe I'll be able to concentrate and keep at it until I finally get to the end. If I do, it'll make only the second Zelda game I've ever finished.

PS2 turns 20 next year, isn't that crazy?
Eltigro replied to DragonGrafx-16's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have more PS2 consoles than any other console. I didn't mean for this to happen... Far left fat is my original PS2, bought back in the early 2000's... Don't know exact date. It had Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec as a pack in, so if that's any indication of timing, there ya go. Middle fat is one that a co-worker gave me last year. He found it in a trash can. lol The disc tray is damaged and won't open, but it seems to run okay other than that. Far right fat is one that I got as a parts donor to fix the one in the middle. I went into a game store and was talking to the guys about the middle one and that I'd probably need to get another non working one to steal the disc tray from... he went to the back and brought this one out and said I could have it. Free. Thing is, it works perfectly. So... I don't want to use it for spare parts. The slim on top was my step-dad's. I didn't even know he had it until he died. My mom asked me if I wanted it and I said yes. He'd had a stroke several years prior and had very limited use of one of his hands, so I'm not sure how much he played it. I asked her why he got it and she said he saw it at a garage sale, decided he wanted it, and he bought it. /shrug This is also where I got most of my PS2 sports games. Works perfectly and is the one I use most. The silver slim was one I found at a garage sale. Had a game and controller, but no cords. It was okay because I have plenty. Got it for $5. So, I guess my average is one every 4 years now? lol -
I can pretty consistently get to the "big warship" level on the TurboGrafx version. But that's about it. I've gotten past it once and had a pretty quick game over on the next screen. But up until then, I can almost cruise.
-
Well, only one modern game for me this week... XBox 360 Halo 3 - 67 minutes (I have played the original Halo for the OG XBox. I never really got into it. My GF got Halo 3 and Halo ODST at the thrift store for $2 a piece, so I decided to give them a shot. I'm still not feeling it. I don't know what it is. There have been FPS games that have drawn me in (Borderlands for example), but I just can't get excited for Halo. I don't know what it is, but... I'll try playing more at some point, but I'm not holding my breath. I didn't try ODST... I think that's the letters... but from the comments I've seen, it's not generally considered to be a high point for the series. Heh... maybe that means I'll like it... ) My modern gaming time will probably increase in the coming year. I'm resolving to finally finish some games that have just been hanging around out there half finished. These should include games like Windwaker, Skyrim, Witcher III, Blue Dragon, Albert Odyssey (although that will be for the classic tracker), and Ni No Kuni. They are mainly all games I'll just have to sit down and push through to the end. But some, such as Windwaker, are ones that I'll probably have to start over as it's been so long since I picked them up that I have no idea where I'm at in them or what I was doing or where I was going. Wish me luck and perseverance. Happy New Year everyone!

Here's my last update of the year... Master System Rocky - 15 min (I decided to mess around with this one because of the thread about the best boxing games that were NOT Punch Out games. I don't think this one makes the list, but it's really the only boxing game I have except for the boxing in Wii Sports, which I barely consider a game... Anyway, the graphics and sound are okay in this game, but I have no idea what I'm doing in the fights. A lot of button mashing going on here. There's some "training" sessions between bouts that I guess are supposed to do things like make Rocky faster or stronger or whatever, but I have no idea if they actually did anything. Your opponents follow the film in that your first opponent is Apollo Creed, then Clubber Lang, then Ivan Drago. I never got past Lang.) Rambo - 5 min (This is an overhead game in the style of Ikari Warriors or Commando or Mercs. I've never been that great at these, and this time around was no exception. I had trouble hitting things with the explosive arrows and the enemies seemed to quickly overrun me. Rambo doesn't move fast enough for quick evasion, so it didn't take long before I was dead. I never made it to the end of the first level.) Rambo III - 5 min (This one is a light gun game, much like Operation Wolf. It took a while before I could get my TV to register shots from my Sega Phaser... I probably spent a good ten minutes fiddling with brightness and contrast and "picture" settings before it would shoot something. I wonder if my TV is going out or something as it has never been this difficult to play light gun games before. Anyway, after I finally got it to work, I didn't really care to play it much. I played to game over about three or four times, getting better each time, but it really does seem to be a memorization game more than a twitchy shooting type game. I might give it more of a try later, but for now Shooting Gallery and Safari Hunt are more my speed for shooting games on the Master System.) 2600 Draconian - 25 min (Still enjoying this game, but it's been a bit since I played it and my skills have dropped. Gotta keep in practice I guess. The more I play my 2600, the more I'm considering getting it AV modded or something. Having a lot of issues with wavy lines and such. I know it's not the rf connection or cable or TV as my Master System and TurboGrafx both have beautiful clear pictures. The top loader NES is great, too, but has the expected scan lines. My front loader NES has some issues with wavy lines, too, so it might need some kind of repair at some point, too. And now that I think about it, my Jaguar is having issues. Man... if I get all this stuff repaired, 2019 is going to be an expensive year.) Pitfall - 5 min (Got this for Christmas and I pretty much just played it to make sure it works. I've never been a huge pitfall fan... I tend to too much... but I do think I used to be better at it. Again, way out of practice. But I will say, because of the controller alone, this version has got to be easier to play than the Intellivision version.) NES Castlevania - 20 min (Played some good ol' Castlevania after watching the 2nd season of the Netflix series. Such a good show. I'm ready for season 3. I had some more trouble than I usually do in Castlevania, dying in places I haven't died in years. I got to Frank before I got game over.) TurboGrafx-16 Legendary Axe - 28 min (This has always been one of my favorite TG games. It was also one of the first that I played on my TurboGrafx system as I got it at the same time. I was happy that My Life in Gaming on YouTube mentioned it as one of their favorite games they played/finished this year. It's been a long time since I beat Legendary Axe, but maybe 2019 will see another ending screen. This time, however, I got game over at the stage 4 bosses again. Hate those guys.) Hope everyone has a Happy New Year, and keep on playing these old games!

atari sues target for foot pong game
Eltigro replied to 0078265317's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Pong can be pretty fun with two players... but yeah, I prefer Air Hockey. While I think Atari might have something, I think it's stupid to pursue it.
