  1. Some PSP gaming for me this week... PSP Castlvania Dracula X Chronicles - 60 min (A bit of a cheat as this is really pretty much just the TurboGrafx-CD Castlevania game with a graphical makeover, I believe. It is hard, I know that. I played for a bit with the default character, Richter Belmont, until I unlocked Maria. Then I played as Maria for a while. I had never played as her before, so it was quite a change for me. While I think her default attack is stronger, I feel like she doesn't take hits as well as Richter, so it was still tough going. I got to the minotaur boss who swings an axe, throws bricks at you, and charges at you... I couldn't get past him, so I just quit before I got too annoyed. lol... the game looks and plays well. Richter's walking animation seems a bit odd to me, but other than that, solid gameplay like the TG original.) Hot Shots Golf Open Tee - 90 min (Played a few rounds of golf on the second course. The first course is pretty easy. The second course, Autumn Pagoda, definitely ups the difficulty. I snuck the psp in my bag on a Father/Daughter Girl Scout camping trip and was playing in the tent after lights out. I was having my best round on Autumn Pagoda and on the last hole when the battery ran out on me. That has really been my only complaint with the PSP is that I wish the battery lasted longer. I have the 1001 model and I've heard it was improved on subsequent models. Maybe I'll get one of those at some point. Anyway, the good thing about the PSP is that if your battery does run out, it doesn't lose where you are in the game. So when I got back home and got settled and got my charger plugged back up, I resumed that game on the last hole and got it in at par. I mean, I was four over for the round, but still, that's my best round on that course. lol)
  2. Not a whole log for me this week... NES (via PSP emulation) Super Mario Bros. - 5 min (Just messing around with this one on the emulator. Hadn't tried it before. Jumping felt a little off... probably some lag... but I don't remember feeling anything like that when I was playing Castlevania on the same emulator. I didn't do so hot, but I'm terribly out of practice, so it's not unexpected.) Jaguar (emulated) Checkered Flag - 45 min (Playing some for the Jaguar HSC. I got a really good lap time, but I'm worried that it might be because I'm using an emulator and rom instead of an actual Jaguar and cartridge. I didn't see anything turned on in the emulator that might help me. The biggest thing that might be giving me an advantage over other players is that I'm using an Xbox One controller instead of a Jaguar controller. Anyway... currently first place on this round of the HSC, but looking ahead I don't have a way to play most of the games that are planned, so I'm sure I'll fall behind in the overall standings pretty quick.)
  3. I have the book. Bought it from Pat himself at Retropalooza last year. Its pretty good, but for the most part, not a sit down and read kind of book. There are a few sections written out like little articles, but most of the book is pages and pages of reviews. Great for reference though.
  4. There's actually a thread about that one further down the page, I believe... http://atariage.com/forums/topic/282554-d-d-computer-labyrinth/
  5. I think I've also seen some card games that use a camera to interface with a video game. Turn over cards, something like the playstaion eye toy sees them and then something happens in game... maybe like a single player Magic the Gathering or something... don't remember... something else I remember seeing on a YouTube video. Don't remember names, of course... I'm terrible at those...
  6. Not a board game, per se, but there is a PS1 (I think it was PS1) game that had a robot building aspect to it. You would build a robot out of parts that came in a kit, interchangeable torsos and legs and arms and such, then what you built would show up in game for you to fight with. Don't remember the name but have seen it in YouTube videos a few times. Of course this is more going down the path to something like the Skylanders or Disney Infinity or Amiibos or whatever...
  7. Fun Fact: There's a world famous pogostick record holder named Biff.

  8. My Amphicar 2000 will have no problem with cooling. Its got water cooling. Ill put out a demo video soon. Itll mostly be footage of the actual Amphicar 2000, but theres a snippet in there of the Spirit of Australia II jet boat that was in the wrong folder...
  9. I'm going to start a kickstarter with a amphibious car prototype, then when all is said and done, just sell them a boat.
  10. Millipede and Centipede... other than that, never really used a track ball much. But man they're perfect for those games...
  11. Heh, I actually looked for one that said anything about a steering patch, but didn't see anything. I'll say this, for some reason, when I tried playing it right after installing, it was very jumpy... like it was stuttering or low frame rate or something. I didn't change anything other than plugging in my Xbox One controller, and when I started playing it this time, it seemed to smooth out. So if something changed, it was not done intentionally. I'll try to dig into settings and make sure something's not turned on that shouldn't be. I don't mind being a loser, but I don't want to be a cheat. But, I would think that if the game is sped up, then the timer would speed up, too, wouldn't it? I guess it would mess with timing some, or if it ran slower (or faster) it might mean reaction time is less (or more) of a factor... Maybe it's the green car... Also, I'm surprised it ran at all. Back when I first downloaded the emulator (retroarch running through launchbox), the only Jag game I could get to run was Cannon Fodder. Honestly, I'd much rather have the actual cart.
  12. Don't know... I'll check the Rom version (I've found two, one that says 1994 and one that says World) and fiddle around with the emulator and see if there's anything that might be helping me.
  13. I don't really know that I've played a game with a lot of DLC that felt necessary or whatever. Forza has a lot of car packs and the Porsche expansion and a NASCAR expansion. I got some car packs in the past because I got a season pass and I recently got the Porsche expansion for Forza whateverversionitisthatIhaveIthinkit's6. Other than that, I got an expansion for Fallout 4... the one with the kinda Cape Cod feel... and can't really think of much more. There are tons of mobile games that try to get people to buy stuff by slowing down game play or timers locking progression... my gf plays a few of those but I don't think she buys any of it. She still complains when something is blocking her. Online games seem to have a lot of the loot box things... which reminds me, I think I did buy some of those for Borderlands 2... they had golden keys or something that would unlock boxes... The thing is, as long as people keep buying the stuff, they'll keep making it. As much as us old school gamers resent it, it's making money.
  14. That's a Jaguar with the CD attachment and a Catbox.
  15. I feel bad that I haven't had anything to contribute here lately. I'll play something modern this week. Promise! Edit: I blame the Jaguar HSC and getting an SD card and roms for my Atari Flashback Portable...
  16. A good article, yes. But they used that tired old joke about needing three hands to use the N64 controller. I never once played a game that required use of both the analog stick and the d-pad. No, you didn't need 3 hands to use it. That's like saying you need four butts to drive a car because it has four seats. No, you don't use all the seats at the same time just like you don't use all the controls on the controller at the same time. I mean, there may have been some that I just never played, but still... you can move your hands. I don't even like the N64 that much... it's the only console I have that isn't actually hooked up. I only have one game for it. But this joke is a pet peeve of mine, I guess. Sorry... don't mean to change topics. Carry on...
  17. Pat and Ian's take... some AtariAge mentions...
  18. Pretty good score on this one I think... I'm playing on an emulator with my XBox One controller, so hopefully that isn't too much of a stray from the rules... This is my first time playing this... the steering is definitely... different... this game is good at conveying a sense of speed, though. I really felt like that car was zipping along. Anyway, my best time was 18 seconds flat. I'm betting I won't best this. I got that same time (or very close) three times. All three laps were with the throttle down the entire time and without running off the road or hitting a wall or anything.
  19. Is Biff part of "the scene?" If so, I'm not just drifting, I'm paddling faster.
  20. I think we should gather up all the sales receipts we can find and count them. That's the only sure-fire way to know a unit was sold. There's probably dozens!
  21. Any bets on what old, 'failed' console will be the next with a "deep thoughts" post? Virtual Boy? Xavix Port? R-Zone?

It won't be about a console at all, it will be pondering the demise of the roller disco and the 1989 cancellation of The Smurfs.
