  1. I mentioned it on a Status update back on the 1st and no one commented... figured on one cared... anyway, here's the gallery that was linked on Reddit... https://imgur.com/gallery/hb5uv1x
  2. Just looked up Borzork as I had never heard of that one. Looks great! The video I saw said it had no sound, though, so that's a bit of a downer. Seems to run smooth, though.
  3. There's one youtuber that I used to like a lot, but have stopped watching most of his videos. He started out with an entertaining game hunting type channel, but it's lately become a "stand in my room and talk about the Switch" channel. meh... There are quite a few who put out consistently good content, though. LGR, 8Bit Guy, TechMoan... I'll watch these guys every vid.
  4. We're assuming it's scratched on the bottom... it's not scratched on the label side, is it?
  5. The thing weighs 100lbs... shipping ANYWHERE wouldn't be cheap.
  6. What joystick did you use on the 2600? I've gotten to where I really prefer my Genesis arcade stick for games that I'd use a stick for (including Ms Pac-Man). Also, the scaling Master System game I play the most is Hang-On. Never could get into After Burner or Space Harrier on consoles even though I loved them in the arcade. I've downloaded Galaxy Force to play on my PSP via emulation, but haven't actually tried it out yet.
  7. Only one modern game for me this week... PSP Persona 3 Portable - 912 min (So I started playing this last Monday... Memorial day... and I played it almost all day. Then when I got home from work on Tuesday, I played it most of that evening. I haven't touched it since. So all those minutes were in two days. lol Anyway, it really grabbed me story-wise and is pretty fun. The dungeon thing is kind of a grind, but the story is interesting and the persona combining thing is new to me. I know these games are super popular, but this is the first time I ever played one. I was completely hooked for those two days. But then, I just stopped. I don't know why, but I haven't felt like going back to it... at least not yet. We'll see.)
  8. My Classic times for the week... NES Castlevania - 34 min (So... I figured out that the emulator on my PSP has a rewind button.... lol... First time I've beaten Dracula in years. Also first time I ever got to Death with the holy water. Anyway, it was pretty fun, but I cheated.) Castlevania III - 25 min (This was the most I've ever played Castlevania 3. Seems pretty fun, but it's non-linearity confuses me a bit. I went through and killed/befriended Grant, but then I didn't know where to go or what to do.) Metroid - 30 min (Was just messing around with this one. It plays pretty good on the PSP. Seems harder than I remember, though... or, again, maybe it's just the small screen or lag or something...) Sega Master System Golden Axe Warrior - 40 min (Played this for a while. Seems like a really pretty fun Zelda clone, but hard. I made a little progress... I think... I like that you can save and there are towns and such.) Hang On - 10 min (I think I do much better at this on an actual Master System. Was playing it on my PSP, and I seemed to wreck a lot more than usual. Maybe it's the small screen?) Genesis Truxton - 25 min (Played this while grilling this evening. Always a fun game, but I suck at it. Bad.)
  9. Marble Man sounds like someone who should be locked up in Arkham and never released.
  10. You've seen NWC carts... but what about an NWC Console? (Not mine unfortunately) https://imgur.com/gallery/hb5uv1x

  11. I say "they're not even human!" all the time and NO ONE gets the reference. lol It's a bit too obscure to expect people to get it I guess.
  12. There's a picture with a caption that reads something like, "This collection is so massive that a rarity like a Vectrex can just sit unloved in the corner of a table with a bunch of other random crap." And it's setting next to a SuperGrafx, a TurboDuo, and TurboExpress! I'm offended that that stuff is called "random crap!"
  13. Is 1943 considered a sequel to 1942? Because it's definitely better.
  14. Airline and PRGE tickets purchased! Who's going to be in Portland this year?

      Skippy B. Coyote

I might. It's kinda 50/50 at this point, but I'll definitely go if I can work out the logistics.

Wish I could go again (work). I really enjoyed it last year. Hopefully I can attend next year.

  15. Going to go ahead and post some times... I usually do them later on Sunday evening, but got some things planned later, so here goes... First off, a lot of these times are approximated. I've been messing with PSP firmware and downloading games and such... most of the time, I just played a game for a few minutes to see if the emulation was working okay. An interesting note, the emulator I played the GameBoy and GameBoy Color games on is a combined GB/GBC/Sega Master System emulator. Just seemed a strange combination... Atari 2600 Moon Patrol - 20 min (Played this while fixing my computer. I had the Windows 10 update bug that wiped out my desktop and a lot of functionality. Had to essentially reload Windows. Anyway, it's Moon Patrol. Was messing around and trying to see how fast I could go through the stages. Lots of deaths that could have been avoided at a slower speed, but fun as always. This time was split with most of it being on a real 2600 with cartridge, and some via PSP emulation.) Jr. Pac-Man - 5 min (Played this just for a sec. I suck at this game, but was also trying to play it with a d-pad and that's never a good idea.) Donkey Kong (psp emulated) - 5 min (I never used to have so much trouble with the ladders on this game. I really think it might be the controls. A joystick is better for the climbing, but the d-pad seems to be better for going back and forth on flat ground. What's a guy to do?) Keystone Kapers (psp emulated) - 10 min (This is actually one of my favorite 2600 games. I was disappointed that it wasn't on the Flashback portable, but it's an Activision game, so it makes sense. I usually skip the elevators because I hate waiting on them, but this time I tried them more often. It helped out some times, but some times it didn't. My biggest issue is hitting the jump button in time when I come onto a new screen and it has one of those radios (?) that is close to the edge. I always hit it.) 7800 (all times approximate, psp emulated) Mario Bros. - 5 min (Not sure what's going on with this emulation. It runs fine and controls fine, but the sound is scratchy and bad. May have to look for a new emulator. Anyway, this is still a fun Mario Bros game, but the sound hurts it.) Asteroids - 5 min (I prefer the 2600 version over this one. This one is quite a bit more challenging with the asteroids going in more random directions and flying around faster.) Dig Dug - 5 min (I've never been that good at Dig Dug, but I've always liked it. Like the music and gameplay. This seems to be a pretty good version, but has the same sound issues as Mario Bros... gotta be the emulator.) TurboGrafx-16 (all times approximate, psp emulated) The Legendary Axe - 15 min (Definitely one of my favorite games for the system. The emulation here is pretty good. Sound may be slightly off, but everything else seems okay.) R-Type - 5 min (Prefer the real thing with real controllers on this one. Mainly because I can switch auto-fire on and off at will. I didn't play long or get far because I was trying to figure out what my options were.) Soldier Blade - 10 min (A fun shooter. Auto-fire doesn't matter so much on this one, because you want it on all the time. Pretty easy game for a little bit at least. I think the d-pad on the psp hinders me some, though.) Volfied - 5 min (Essentially Qix. Haven't played Qix in a long time, so figured I'd download this one. It'll get some more play time in the future, but probably won't ever be a highly played game for me.) NES (all times approximate, psp emulated) Castlevania - 10 min (Gotta download this one, right? Just played until my first death. Happened a little bit after killing the mummies. Emulation is pretty good here.) Dr. Mario - 20 min (Never really played this one much, but it's pretty fun. I played it longer than I figured I would.) Super Mario Bros. - 5 min (Again, just played a bit to see if it worked. It did.) GameBoy (all times approximate, psp emulated) Metroid II Return of Samus - 10 min (For some reason, this won't run on the emulator on my computer. Same rom from the same place, but different emulator. It glitches out on the laptop. Oh well. I played long enough to kill a metroid and get lost. lol) Super Mario Land - 10 min (Another one I never played much of. Got a little ways into it and moved on. Will play more at some point.) GameBoy Color (all times approximate, psp emulated) Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening DX - 15 min (Used to have the original GameBoy version. It was the bugged one, though where you couldn't get past a certain dungeon because a key wouldn't drop or something. Anyway, played this for a little bit. Nice being in color. It's really hard to get it to the save screen on the psp, though... you have to "press all the buttons" meaning A, B, Start, and Select... and it's just a little difficult to get them all to register.) Genesis (all times approximate, psp emulated) MUSHA - 5 min (Just played a bit. Fun game with great music.) Truxton - 5 min (Again, just played a bit. Sound seems a bit off, but still played fine.) SegaCD (all times approximate, psp emulated) Snatcher - 25 min (A lot of flirting with Mika. =) Anyway, it's cool that I was able to get SegaCD games working on the PSP, but honestly, there's not a lot of them that I'm interested in playing. Want to get the TG-CD working, but never could figure it out. There's more games on that system I want to play.) Sylpheed - 5 min (A fun but hard shooter (at least on the PSP). Will try more later.) Playstation (all times approximate, psp emulated) Castlevania SotN - 30 min (Such a good game, and it seems to run great on the PSP. It has all the cinematic cutscenes, too, unlike the version I downloaded on the XBox.) Wipeout XL - 10 min (To this day, this is the only game I ever bought the sound track to. A fun racing game, with fun sequels. A little hard to see on the small screen, so it's sometimes difficult to dodge mines, but I look forward to playing this one more.)
  16. XBox One The Undergarden - 38 min (I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time on this game. But it's somewhat relaxing. Reminds me a bit of Song of the Deep, but a little more puzzle based and less Metroidvania-ish... if that makes any sense...) XBox Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 - 141 min (I definitely got the hang of this game now. Won my first tournament by a large margin (ten strokes). Figured out the trick to putting and doing better on drives. Got some endorsement deals (Nike and Ping) and bought some bling for my golfer. He still looks like an idiot, but anyway... still can't get the hang of the chip shots, though... no matter what I do, they only seem to go about five feet.) PS3 Catherine - 54 min (This was on sale in the Playstation store for like $4 so I figured I'd go for it. It seemed to be pretty popular for a while there. So far the gameplay seems to remind me of Intelligent Qube for the playstation, but vertical... and with more sheep. It's very stylized. Will probably play some more to see the story.) PSP (all times approximate) Bubble Bobble Evolution - 5 min (Not really liking this version of Bubble Bobble. It's got slick new graphics, but that's not always a good thing. I downloaded a couple other retro versions and will probably end up deleting this for more space on the memory card.) Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles - 5 min (Again, played to make sure it worked. This is the one that is a a remake of the TurboCD one if I remember correctly. I've played that one a decent amount via the Wii Virtual Console.) Hot Shots Golf Open Tee - 30 min (Played a single round. This has the more familiar three button press swing gauge style of play. Played an 18 hole round, got 2 under par. More arcade type feel than Tiger Woods, definitely. Was trying to get Neo Turf Masters emulated to play an arcade type golf game, but never could get the Neo Geo emulation to work properly. Don't know how much I'll really try to get it going, as there aren't many Neo Geo games I want to play, and I already have this and a Metal Slug Anthology to play if I want.) Sega Rally Revo - 10 min (Just a couple races so far. I'm better at Sega Rally 2 on the Dreamcast. Don't know if its a difference in the screen, controller, or physics of the car, but I have trouble staying off the wall on this one. I'm sure, like anything, it'll just take more practice and memorization of the tracks.) Strikers 1945 Plus - 5 min (Played a bit to make sure it worked. It worked. And it's pretty hard so far. I've played a Strikers game before (don't remember what system) but don't remember it being this hard.) GameBoy Advance (via PSP emulation, all times approximate) Castlevania Circle of the Moon - 10 min (I have the Aria of Sorrow cartridge for the GBA, but have never played Circle of the Moon. It seems pretty similar, but I'm not sure I like the jumping physics so far. They seem a little stiff or something. Can jump really high, but not very far. Oh well, not into it very far, so will have to play more to see if I like it or not.) Mario Golf Advance Tour - 20 min (Oh my god... I played this for a good solid 10 minutes and never figured out how to start playing golf. Finally had to quit the story mode and go back out to play a quick game or whatever it was called. The bad thing is, now I can't remember whether I liked it or not. All I can remember is the RPG type story mode stuff... Will play some more to figure out what's going on.) GameBoy Color (via PSP emulation, all times approximate) Shantae - 15 min (I played the games on the XBox One before I played this one. It's really pretty good, but I don't know what I'm supposed to do at the first boss. It's also glitching out some, so I may try to find another rom or may have to abandon it. Originally had this in the Classic games tracker, but looks like it was actually released after 2000. /shrug)
  17. I'm trying to emulate some TG-CD games on my psp. I have PSP hu-go installed, and it's playing roms from Turbochips fine. But I'm trying to get TurboCDs to work and having no luck. My TurboCD games are currently in bin/cue format, but from what I'm reading, they need to be in wav/iso formats or something for the emulator to be able to read them. I found a program that is supposed to be able to change them to what I need easily, but it apparently won't work on Windows 10. I found a newer version, and I couldn't run it because my computer said it was infected with a trojan. Anyway, has anyone had experience with hu-go and TG-CD games on a PSP? Need some brains to pick. Correction, the game I'm working with extracts to two files, one an iso file and one a cue file. No bin file. But apparently it needs a bunch of wav files or something... If you use a different emulator that doesn't require all this, please let me know...
  18. I wholly agree and have done so myself on several occasions (most recently last night). And I put more weight on seeing/hearing those videos than I do hearing what the person who put up the video thinks. But those videos that show gameplay are different from the talking head type videos which I think were being referenced. If a video about a video game shows the person who made the video more than the game itself, I start to lose interest.
  19. I think the original quote was something like "writing about music is like dancing about architecture." I think it's pretty similar in that the medium is mainly people talking, so it's like "talking about video games". Essentially, the original quote was saying music should be listened to, not read about. This quote, I think is saying people should be playing video games, not listening/watching someone talk about them. I could be off, but that's how I took it. That said, I watch a lot of YouTube.
  20. Memory came in the mail today so I now have 29gb available. Let's see how deep the rabbit hole goes...
  21. Did the Windows 10 update... that was a mistake...

My latest laptop came with Windows 10. It was a TOTAL nightmare... after about 6 months I made a 2nd partition and installed Windows 7. I haven't booted to Windows 10 since.

Dunno what I was doing wrong, but there was so much lag/stalling and I got completely sick of watching that spinny circle thing. I've heard that if you computer isn't all that powerful Windows 10 runs pretty bad on it. Maybe I'm just not that open to change. I never cared for the big square grid thing with apps.

I've had no problems with Windows 10, at least none that I can attribute directly to Windows 10, until this update and it seems like it may have been more a problem with Avast virus software than Windows. /shrug My laptop isn't super powerful, but it's pretty decent. I can't ever remember the specs...

  22. Yeah, even if I buy a sealed game, it doesn't stay sealed. I'd rather play them. There's the term "shelf queen" that I've heard that I like quite a bit. I don't have any shelf queens. Edit: Oh, and I never buy sealed games from 3rd party sellers. There's the threat of it being a fake and they always want too much for them.
