How old were you when you played your first Atari 2600 game?
Eltigro replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Poll Forum
I put 5-9, but I'm not entirely sure. I was born in 74, and I know I played it before I started kindergarten, but it came out in 77, so I couldn't have been less than 3 years old... anyway... it was around then. -
I voted no, but that's because I didn't buy it. My girlfriend bought it for me.

Only a couple for me this week... XBox Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 - 92 min (Got this for $2 at Goodwill. It's a little scratched, but not to the point that it wouldn't play... although it did start with some sound glitching that a restart fixed. Anyway, I'm not much into sports games, but I'll play a golf game every once in a while. I had trouble getting the hang of this one. It doesn't have your normal three button press power meter that has become pretty much standard on golf games. Instead, you use the analog stick kinda like you would the track ball on the Golden Tee arcade game. Your swing power is only represented by your player's backswing, so it is really hard to judge. "I only need 50% power for this one... oh... was that 50 or 75... or 30?" I'm sure with practice, the timing of things gets better, but obviously, 92 minutes is not enough time. For two rounds, I was a combined 21 over par. In 36 holes, I had one birdie, and one eagle. The rest were bogies, double bogies, triple bogies, or pars. I'll play it more, but I really think I like PGA Tour 97 for my Saturn better.) XBox One Forza 6 - 73 min (I went ahead and got the Porsche DLC for this and have been racing those. Love the way these cars look, but have never really been a fan of how they handle... I mean, I've only ever driven them on video games, but still... Some are better than others, but even the 944 with its front mounted engine and nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution still didn't seem to handle as I would expect. Oh well. It's still a fun game.)

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
Eltigro replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Our local Goodwill recently went through a remodel and my gf wanted to go check it out. I went along, not really expecting to find anything. I never find anything worth buying here, but I did find something this time in the DVDs. It's not a great find or anything, but I got Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 for the OG XBox for $1.99. Then we went to another local charity/thrift shop where I found nothing I wanted to buy. They did have some gaming stuff... Wii Speak accessories and a PS2 High School Musical... but nothing I wanted. I did see this CD that gave me a smile, though. Thought about buying it, but knew I probably would only listen to it once, so I passed. -
Does anything else work with a PS2 power supply?
Eltigro replied to Zap!'s topic in Classic Console Discussion
I never said anything about the 9000x. I said the 700xx series, that you said that you have, that I said that I have, uses the same power jack as the PS One that I have. Is there some miscommunication here? You seem to keep saying I'm wrong on something and correcting something that I didn't even say anything about. -
When I worked at a Fluke electronics repair facility back in the early 2000s, we had a dishwasher set up in receiving for exactly this. I dont think it was done that often and only a couple of the techs did it, but yeah... Ive seen it done first hand...

I just watched an LGR Thrifts video on YouTube where he found a CD-i player (no controllers) for $4. FOUR DOLLARS! I never find stuff like that.

Does anything else work with a PS2 power supply?
Eltigro replied to Zap!'s topic in Classic Console Discussion
My PS2 slim is a SCPH-70012 with that same power jack. My PS One is a model number SCPH-101 with that same power jack. This is the smaller redesigned PS One, don't confuse it with the old larger rectangular Playstation. -

Eltigro replied to Zap!'s topic in Classic Console Discussion
I don't know exactly what the power supply says, but I can confirm that the same power supply will work for the PS2 slim and the PS One. Just powered up both of mine with the same adapter. I will say that on the bottom of the PS One, it says to use a 7.5 VDC adapter and the PS2 slim says 8.5 VDC. I think I'm using the PS2 power supply, so not sure if it works the other way around or not... -
Your favorite Castlevania game in the series?
Eltigro replied to Nutsy Doodleheimer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The summer between 7th and 8th grade, our house burned down and took with it my Atari 2600 and games (and my River Raid patch!). We lived with my grandmother for the rest of that summer and the next school year. My birthday is in October, and that first birthday after the fire, my sister gave me an NES, with SMB/Duck Hunt, 1943, Metal Gear, and Castlevania. (She must've been rollin' in dough back then... still my best birthday gift ever.) Anyway, out of all the games that I got, I loved Castlevania the most and most of my memories of playing it involve me sitting on my grandmother's green shag carpet in her front room. There's a lot of nostalgia in there, of course. Those were not the best of times, but the NES and Castlevania helped. Between 8th and 9th grade, my mom and step-dad moved to Michigan, and I stayed in Texas with my dad and step-mom. I finally beat Castlevania when I was in high school, living with my dad. It wasn't long after that, I sold all my NES stuff because I had gotten a TurboGrafx and the NES was "old". I was young and foolish. I have an NES again, as well as another copy of Castlevania, but I still haven't beaten it again. Maybe one day... -
Forza 6 (XBox One) Star Wars KotOR (Xbox) Moon Patrol (2600)

Spent the last few evenings helping the son of a friend of a friend with some math so he can graduate. He had fallen behind because of several extended hospital stays. But tonight I’m ready to do some gaming! What should I play?

This week's times... PSP Wipeout Pure - 70 min (This is the only game I have for my PSP so far, having only just gotten it last week. It's an excellent Wipeout game, but maybe a bit too similar to the Wipeout I already have on the PS3. Can't remember that one's name at the moment. HD maybe? Anyway, I'm progressing well so far with my favorite team, Feisar. One thing I like about the PSP, though... I was playing along and suddenly my battery died. I figured I had lost all my progress. I plugged it in and went and did other things... a couple days later, I pick up my charged up PSP and turn it on and it's still at the point where I left off. I guess it paused my game when the battery gave out and restarted me when I turned it back on. Very nice!) XBox Star Wars: KOTOR - 381 min (Recovered from my party wipe from the last week and continued through the first planet. Went through all the bounties and duels and such... left the planet in a stolen spacecraft, and became a Jedi. I'm trying for a light side Jedi... I usually pick the "good" side in games where you are given a choice.)

My times for the week... Atari 7800 (emulated) Mario Brothers - 12 min (Played this for a bit while my laptop was hooked up to the TV. Looked great. I had one game where I didn't lose a single life until the ice things came out (level 7 or so?), then lost all of them in quick succession from poor jumps. Oh well. Still a great version of Mario Brothers.) Game.com (all emulated) Centipede - 5 min (This really wasn't too bad of a game of Centipede. I mean, no game of Centipede without a track ball is that great, but it wasn't too bad. I did feel like it fired too slow, as only one projectile was allowed on the screen at a time. I was playing this on a laptop screen and not the Game.com's blurry mess of a screen. I can't imagine seeing this well enough on that screen to be playable.) Duke Nukem 3D - 12 min (You can't turn around. The gun fires in three different directions (straight ahead, a little to the left, a little to the right), but there's no way to actually turn. You strafe left and right and go forward and backward, but never turn. The only turning is in the hallways and it is done automatically. Is it playable? Yeah. I guess. It just wasn't very fun.) Quiz Whiz - 12 min (This is a basic quiz game, which relies very little on anything that actually moves. The questions were pretty tough, I thought. The best I got was 8 out of 10 on General Knowledge, but a couple of other subjects got me at around half that. The worst part of the game was the animations after you answer a question. They are annoying and repetitive and slow the game down. But hey, in the options you can turn them off, so great! Well, partly, because the scratchy, annoying, digitized voice still says "Right!" or "Wrong!" after each answer. I mean, it saves time, but not sanity.) Solitaire - 13 min (Still the best game, in my opinion, on the Game.com. It doesn't need fancy graphics or sounds and is built into the system, so you don't have a cartridge to worry about. Is it the greatest solitaire game ever? Not by a long shot. But it is competent. The sound effects are a bit annoying, and the interface when trying to move several cards at once seems a bit clunky, but it is serviceable. I played until I won a game. The fact that the emulator I was using allows the use of the mouse as the touch screen interface makes this easily playable.) Sonic - 3 min (Oh God, please, no. The low framerate alone kills this game, but since when is the first level an ice level? I mean, it wasn't really, but it felt like one. So slippery and laggy and zoomed in... I couldn't bother with more than 3 min with this one.) TurboGrafx-16 The Legendary Axe - 34 min (For some reason, I got a game over on level 2. That hasn't happened in years. Anyway, my second game I got to the end boss of the 4th level. A couple of guys with shields and spears that the manual calls "Punjabbi". I was thinking this was the named I remembered and looked it up online, but misspelled it "Punjabi", which is a completely different thing. Anyway, love this game. One day, maybe I'll beat it again. But at this rate, it's gonna be a while.) SNES (emulated) Super Castlevania IV - 30 min (Played this via emulation with my laptop hooked up to my television via HDMI. It's pretty much how I'm going to play emulation from now on, I think. I'm not that great at this game, but enjoy the Castlevania series quite a bit. I think I got to about the same part I usually get to, but quit at my first game over. Most deaths were caused by falling off things I shouldn't have than anything else.)

Game.com, oh come on. There were two systems?
Eltigro replied to towmater's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Found an emulator and playing some Game.com games on my laptop. And yeah... even with a better screen, they're still not so hot. I'll give a brief rundown of my thoughts on them in the What Have You Actually Played thread tomorrow. A preview though... worst Sonic game I've ever played... the 3D in Duke Nukem 3D should be in quotation marks... Solitaire still the best game... And yeah, interactive black and white powerpoint presentation is a good description. lol -

Funny you say that. Watching that video a Tiger LCD game is exactly what it reminded me of. There are so few frames of animation in Indy 500, it might as well be like five pictures of a car: straight forward, far to the left, far to the right, crashed left and crashed right. I know there were issues with lots of blur on the screen and anything resembling smooth animation just turned into a blurry indecipherable mess, but still. -

So you're saying the closest we'll ever get to a live action Calvin and Hobbes is Life of Pi?

That's what I was talking about when I was talking about connecting it to the PS3. Downloading PSP games in the Playstation Store on my PS3, then transferring the game from the PS3 to the PSP via USB. Not talking about playing PS3 games on the PSP.

My PSP came in today, and seems to work fine. Played a little Wipeout Pure on it, so the UMD drive is good. All the buttons seem to work so far, controls are good, screen is good. As for the bad... I can't connect to the wifi. Apparently the PSP can't deal with WPA2 security on the modem, and my modem is locked so I can't change it. Like, I can get in and see the settings, but since it is rented/leased/whatever from our service provider and not actually owned by us, I can't change anything. I mean, I found a way to change the password, but nothing about how to change the drop down menu that is the security type. Sooo... can't log into my Playstation account on it until I get to a wifi I can use. I think there is a way to download the game on my PS3 and then connect it via USB, but haven't messed with it yet. I think the memory card is too small for me to download games anyway. But hey, gonna be some PSP times on the What have you actually played modern games tracker!

Sega Saturn--Swap trick question
Eltigro replied to nd2003grad's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, out of all the options, I like what this is looking like the most...
