I had nothing for the Classic Tracker this week... just didn't play anything "old"... Even though one of the games I did play did feel old, rules are rules... XBox One Forza 6 - 327 min (Completed all series, all special events and showcases or whatever they call them... A lot of racing. 100 laps at the Indianapolis Speedway oval. That was a boring race. I got to where I was just trying to find orange cones to run over and laughing about how high up in the air they flew... But I got the "One for the History Books" achievement. It says that 0.18% of gamers unlock this achievement. Now, does that mean of all people who have an account or just the ones who played Forza 6?) XBox Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - 380 min (Never played this before. Seems really pretty great for an older game. Very reminiscent of the Mass Effect games to me. Although I may have screwed up. I'm deep in enemy territory and out of medkits... and my party just died. Think I'm going to have to go all the way back to somewhere I can buy more and then come all the way back to where I am. We'll see what happens...)

Anyone give me info on that "Mark 2" card? Would it work? Seemed a good big cheaper than the ones that don't say it. Edit: Doing more research (it's easier on my laptop than it was on my phone when I was looking yesterday), I found this page on Sony's website that seems to give a decent rundown of what's compatible. https://esupport.sony.com/perl/support-info.pl?info_id=18

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
Eltigro replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, after I made my impulse buy, I saw a few that were probably better deals, but oh well. I had been thinking about buying a PSP for a while now and this was just the push I needed. -
Okay, ordered a PSP on Ebay yesterday. I know zero about them. It is coming with a 32mb memory card which I'm sure I'll be wanting to upgrade, but I'm a bit confused about what cards exactly I can use. I saw one for sale, a 32gb card, that was called a "Memory Stick PRO Duo Magic Gate Mark 2". Will that work? I looked up which ones were compatible, but the list said nothing about "Mark 2", so I don't know if that matters or not. I've also seen some things about getting a micro SD card and an adapter. Has anyone tried those? Do they work? If so, do you have one you would suggest? And lastly, how much memory do I need? I mean, I've read that 32gb is the max, but is that only if I'm going to be downloading games to it or whatever? And how big are the games... and so on and so on... just really, any info anyone can provide in the memory area will be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Edit: I believe it is the 1000 model or whatever if that matters.

The Official "Thrift finds" Thread

Went to the flea market today. Found more gaming stuff than I normally do, but it was all too high for me. Don't know if they were all just too high or I'm just too cheap. Saw a couple WiiU's, both for around $125. A Super Metroid for $45. Thought about a CiB Kid Chameleon for the Genesis that was $25, but passed. Ended up getting a Super Mario Hot Wheels car and a PSP game. Paid $5 total. That's the same price I paid for the corn dog I had while there. It's my first PSP game. I bought a PSP on Ebay yesterday after seeing that there was a 15% off coupon thing. That hasn't arrived yet, but when it does, I'll have something to play on it. -
Not much of a watch guy, but apparently Samsung makes a smart watch were you can design whatever face you want for the watch. Here's what someon on Reddit came up with... https://i.redd.it/tionj4hi4jv01.jpg

Here's the video I saw. Not sure why it's sideways. I think it's on a charging stand and maybe the display turns when it's on it? Dunno.

How Many Atari 2600 Consoles Do You Currently Own?
Eltigro replied to RandomPerson's topic in Poll Forum
Just a couple 4 switches for me. But not sure if one works... so does that count as only 1? Oh, and the Atari Flashback portable if that counts... -
Yeah, after it happened, I looked into it and other people have mentioned there being a reaction between the wire insulation and Styrofoam where they kind of stick together.
-
I wish I had kept these for my TurboGrafx. I've had to put it back in the box a few times and there was some issue with the cables getting stuck to the Styrofoam of the packaging. A heat and humidity type thing or something? Anyway, if I had packed them in the plastic they came in, I'm sure this would have been avoided. But yeah, if just looking for protection, any freezer/storage baggy will probably suffice. If looking for authenticity and to make something really "complete", I don't know.
-
That does bring back some memories. Not saying whether they are good or bad memories, though.

Don't know how well it fits with the topic, but I know there are places like auto parts stores that still run some pretty old software for their inventory and parts ordering and such. Lowe's has some that looks like it was made in the 80's or so. No graphics. The Lowe's logo is made out of characters and such. Of course these are all custom software probably or some modified inventory software or whatever. But the thing is, it works, so they've kept with it.

Was looking online for places to buy foam. There are lots of places to buy online, but if you're wanting to walk right into somewhere and buy some, you might consider looking at egg crate style foam mattress pads. You could just cut them up with scissors or a box cutter to the size you need. Maybe use spray adhesive to attach it to the insides of the box. Any extra can be used as void fill. No idea what your budget is for packaging, but you can get these pretty cheap... 20 to 30 dollars or so.
-
Looking around though, I found out that they do make self contained room temperature foam bags. The industrial stuff I was using required a warmer. One reason you had to let it cool a bit when doing it direct in the box was that if you put the top layer on immediately, the plastic would melt together and make it really difficult to get the item out without a chisel. Anyway, not sure how big the monitor is, and these are still kind of expensive, but... https://www.amazon.com/EcoBox-Inches-Instapak-Temperature-2032-1/dp/B00KAFU2SK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525358137&sr=8-1&keywords=instapak+quick+room+temperature

Yeah, the doing it at home way would probably have to be something like that. I was just saying that expanding foam and plastic is actually pretty common in industrial packaging or whatever. The Sealed Air stuff I was talking about is even more expensive and certainly not practical for someone who just has one thing to ship every once in a while. There might be something available along those lines, made for packaging, though, instead of the insulation/hole filling type.
-
When I worked at Fluke electronics, long ago (early 2000s) we used expanding foam to ship electronic calibrators and oscilloscopes and amps and such... It does work. For some machines we had molds made. Lay in the plastic, spray in the foam, lay more plastic over the top, clamp the lid shut, wait a minute, take out the mold, repeat. There were special molds for the front and back. For others, we would lay plastic in the bottom of the box, spray in foam, lay plastic over the top, settle the unit on top of the foam. Wait a sec for it to cool, lay more plastic over the top, spray in more foam, more plastic, close up the box. It worked really pretty well. I don't have any pics or anything of what I used to do, but there's lots of videos on YouTube of similar processes if you search for Sealed Air Foam Packaging. But it's not really something you can do easily at home. Maybe the trash bags and foam idea would work, but I don't know what kind of foam you would need. Something that won't compress too much and offer no resistance, but something that wouldn't be too hard so as not to cushion. It can be a fine line, I think.

I'm actually Billy Mitchell but with better hot sauce.

Sorry, I can't accept any of these as proof unless they are on a Polaroid and mailed to me. lol Back in the day I had one for River Raid. Got it direct from Activision and everything. Lost it in a house fire, though.

Dungeon Explorer Military Madness And there's not much to it, but I used to have a lot of fun with World Class Baseball -
Game.com, oh come on. There were two systems?

I'd rather have the game.com. I didn't like Lights Out. -

I had the original one. Bought new when they went on clearance at Target. I never got any more games for it though, so after I bored of lights out (which did not take long), I just used it to play solitaire. Then the touch screen quit working and I think I tossed it out. I wouldn't mind having another one, but it would be something I got just to say I had one. -
It's okay Jin and Iwantgames. I'm still gonna log my minutes and put them in here with my usual short writeups. Even if no one is counting, I still like reading about other people's playtime and writing about my own. This is all for fun. Not meant to be work. So... on with the times... Online/MMORPG/Whatever Everquest - 303 min (Didn't play as much this week. My revisiting of this classic may be coming to a close as I'm just kinda getting tired of it again. The server I've been playing on is a "Time Locked Progression" server. They started the server off with just the original game, then at certain intervals, they unlocked the content that each expansion offered. This last week, they got to the Planes of Power expansion. It is going to be the last major expansion for this server. I went and rediscovered my old account and my old characters are still there. But I just don't have much interest in playing them any more. Oh well.) Playstation 3 Pier Solar - 78 min (This is a "new" RPG that is made to be like an old 16-bit RPG. There was a version made and put in an actual Sega Genesis cartridge if I remember correctly, and it also came out on several other older consoles. The PS3 version has some upgrade visuals (mainly just backgrounds it seems) and music, but the story and gameplay are, I think, the same. It has a typical JRPG type storyline so far... your father is ill and the doctor is out of town, so you take it upon yourself to go find some herb that might help, but of course the only place it grows is some dangerous cave that your mother has forbidden you to go to... I'm not far into the story yet, but I can see where it's going. I'm not too happy with the control. It does that thing where, when you walk into something, you kind of slide around it. It annoys me because it feels like I can't interact with things properly. Did I slide around that box because it's just part of the scenery and it's nothing special or did I slide around it because my button press to investigate/open it didn't register because I wasn't in the right spot because I was sliding... anyway... it seems okay, but don't know how long it'll hold my interest. We'll see.) XBox One Forza 6 - 239 min (Inspired by Digdugnate's finishing of the racing series in Forza 7, I went ahead and finished the racing series in Forza 6. I still need to do three endurance races, and about three other "showcase" races to have done pretty much everything in the non-expansion pack single player game. Those three showcase races are still locked... hoping they will unlock when I do the endurance races. Those endurance races are rough to get through. One race may last a couple hours, so I have to plan accordingly.)
-
Hardly anything classic for me this week... 2600 Asteroids - 15 min (Had a Boy Scout campout this weekend. We weren't supposed to have electronic devices in camp, but I brought my Atari Portable anyway. Played a little before laying down for a somewhat restless night. I'm not a fan of this camp. Too close to civilization. Can hear planes and freeway traffic all night long.) TurboGrafx-16 The Legendary Axe - 5 min (So I sat down and thought, I'm going to see how long I can play on just one man. I fell off a cliff and died 5 minutes in. Sigh. I'm really better at this game than that. But I told myself, "One man, then I stop.")

Noticed something interesting last night... hooked my laptop up to my TV via HDMI... seemed my laptop screen has more lag than the TV through HDMI did...
-
Might be even faster if you turn off mirroring and just output to the big screen.
The GPU is doing double the work when you're driving two screens. It might not be faster than the built-in screen when not attached to the TV.
-
The 2nd screen does less work then the primary screen. I have it to have this laptop to only use the TV screen when plugged in when using HDMI.
-
I'm going to fiddle around with it more. Took me a while to figure out a way to let me still use the physical keyboard when in tablet mode. The screen can fold back to use as a tablet, but I wanted to do that just to get it out of the way while I used the keyboard and used the TV as a monitor. Had to disable a driver to allow it to continue to work.
