I was in a used gaming shop today and saw both Baten Kaitos and PN03. I looked at the back of the Baten Kaitos and considered it, but passed. I have no idea what PN03 is even about, but they had it. Perhaps I'll look up some vids on YouTube. (I ended up getting Metal Slug 7 and Suikoden for the DS.)

Sega Game Gear, just picked up some stuff, no idea...
Eltigro replied to Atari8bitCarts's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It's all crap. I'll give you $5 for it so you can have the room for something else. (JK of course, nice collection! I owned one once for about two days, but the "fully tested and working" one I got off eBay had no sound... sent it back.) -
Goldeneye or Perfect Dark: Goldeneye Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask: Ocarina Pokemon Red or Blue: Never played either Tetris or Columns: Tetris, but I've probably played Columns more... go figure GameBoy or GameGear: GameBoy Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog: SMB SNES or Genesis: Genesis just seems more fun to play for some reason Street Fighter or Tekken: Never got into fighting games Mario Kart 64 or Crash Team Racing: Mario Kart 64 Mode 7 or Blast Processing: Blast Processing Pitfall! or Uncharted: Pitfall! Twisted Metal or Carmageddon: Twisted Metal Colecovision or Intellivision: Unfortunately I haven't had much play time with either Doom Guy or Quake Guy: BJ Blazkowicz actually lol Quake or Unreal: Never played either GTA or Driver: If this is GTA 1, I'm going with Driver. If GTA 3, I'm going with GTA 3. NES or Master System: NES XBox One or PS4: Probably PS4, but I probably won't be buying either very soon. Gran Turismo or Forza: tough one... I played a ton of GT1, 2, and 3 A-spec, but then played a ton of Forza 3 and 4... dunno... a tie I guess? Spacewar! or Computer Space: haven't played either Need for Speed or Midnight Club: haven't played either Mario Tennis or Sega Superstars Tennis: haven't played either (tennis game I've played the most is Wii Sports Tennis, followed by World Court Tennis for the TG-16... not a big tennis player) Kinect or Eyetoy: I think they're both gimmicky... neither NEO GEO or Turbografx: TurboGrafx, of course (but I've wanted a NEO GEO for years... haven't had money when I've had the space and haven't had space when I've had the money) Bust a Move or Lumines: haven't played either NES Advantage or NES Max: Advantage Castlevania or Ghost and Goblins: Castlevania Battlezone (2600) or Robot Tank: haven't played either Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy: FF Circus Atari or Kaboom!: Circus Atari Ninja Gaiden or Shinobi: Shinobi Original XBox or Gamecube: GC Samus Aran, Joanna Dark, or Lara Croft: Lara Croft Game.com or DS: DS Crash Bandicoot or Ratchet and Clank: Crash Transformer, Voltron, Gundam, or Gobots: Transformers Zelda or Neutopia: If talking about First Zelda vs First Neutopia, Neutopia. Pokemon or Digimon: neither First Person Shooter or First Person Adventure: Adventure Turn based RPG or Action RPG: Action Short replayable games or very long but no really replayable games: depends on my mood at the time... sometimes I want a long story driven game, sometimes I just want a quick fix of a SHMUP or something Physical Game or digital download: I'd always prefer the physical game, but sometimes the digital download is preferred due to cost or other factors Cheat codes or Unlockable through gameplay: Depends... usually the unlockables, but sometimes the requirements are stupid hard level based rom hacks or fan translations: No real experience with either Watching a movie online or actual disc/tape: If my internet speed is decent, online is fine with me. But like with games, it's fun to have the actual physical media. Kids or No Kids: My kids are probably the reason I'm still alive. Preservation of rare video games or F it and play them: If I buy a game, I'm going to play it, but I do think that game systems and programs should be saved and cataloged for future generations. I don't know, some of these don't look too bad. (Disclaimer: I have not had any hands on experience with any of the systems in the video.)

Comedian pokes fun at the future of video games
Eltigro replied to Brian O's topic in Classic Console Discussion
First let me say that I didn't watch the video (I'm in a restaurant atm, prob watch it later), so I don't exactly know the material being referenced. I would say, though that video games are not necessarily "done" or "finished" or whatever else. They are however changing. Do I like where they are headed? Not necessarily. While I have thoroughly enjoyed games such as the Assassin's Creed series and the latest Batman games, I have no interest in what seems to be the most popular genre on the current gen systems: first person shooters. I have very little interest in competing against anonymous players across the state. (I'd rather be sitting next to them.) I have no interest in Kinect and only really use my Wii for the Virtual Console emulation. (They've got some C64 games on there, even!) The disc currently in my XBox 360 is Raiden Fighters Aces and lately my TurboGrafx-16 has gotten more playtime than anything else. This last weekend I helped a friend lay some concrete while wearing a shirt with an Atari 2600 on it and introduced my kids to Super Mario Bros. (via the Wii VC, I'll have to get the NES top loader out of storage and let them play it "for real.") I went to a used game store and heard someone asking about the 2600 Jr in the case. "Is that the one that pong came out on?" The shop worker said, "Yeah." I continued sifting through the Genesis games. People will still make and play games. The interest is still there. I think it will follow money more and more and there will be less and less innovation, but they will live on. I think gaming will continue, it just won't be going in a direction that "we" would like. -
Disks are lame! Why I love cartridges. (and whats yer fav?)
Eltigro replied to Dripfree's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Cartridges are awesome if for no other reason than nostalgia for me. The games I grew up on were cartridges. The move to discs was exciting, but since I had already been through the 2600, 7800, NES, SNES, Genesis, and TG-16, the memories of disc-based games is... well... different. The cartridges held an aire of mystique. They were like magic. When I started gaming, I had no idea how they worked. By the time gaming got to discs, I understood the technology better and now, they're just games. While even the carts are 'just games', there are still some that make me feel good just looking at them, using them, even simply hearing them rub against each other. The old 2600 carts really were almost magic to me. I would try to open the door to look inside and stare at the little game catalogs that Atari had. I don't remember the other Atari systems that well as they were really my step-brother's and I wasn't over there much. NES carts will always hold a special place because so much of my childhood was spent with them. The strange shaped Tengen carts (or other oddly shaped ones like the various Bible adventures ones) were oddities and made me want to rent and use them, almost just to see if they would fit in the ol' toaster. (Looking back, this may be why I preferred the Tengen Tetris over the Nintendo one.) After the NES came my TG-16 with its credit card sized games. Again, it was almost magical how they fit all those colors and graphics (more and better than the NES) on a tiny card that was so much smaller than the NES carts. Their size also meant they fit into CD jewel case sized holders that would fit on the shelf with other CDs. And when the CD attachment came out, those games also fit in the same sized cases. It just seemed so well planned out and cohesive from a design standpoint. From there, the SNES and Genesis carts started to just seem kind of ho hum. The SNES carts were kind of boring to me (although many of the games were amazing). And some of the Genesis carts were downright ugly (mainly sports titles with that yellow tab thing on the side). So they never really did much for me. (Although I did think the 'eject' button on the SNES was pretty cool.) And I didn't think the N64 carts looked impressive at all. Really kind of plain. A rounded top and a couple lines. Meh. -
Introduced the kids to Super Mario Brothers today. They did pretty well, with both of them getting to World 1-2 on their own (ages 5 and
. I managed to get to 8-1 using warps. -
lol, I was actually thinking of suggesting Safari Hunt as a joke. It is pretty fun. As far as NES Zapper games, I never really played much of them other than the ubiquitous Duck Hunt. I played Operation Wolf, but didn't enjoy it. When I rented it my Zapper was broken, thanks to my step-brother, so I had to try playing it with the controller, using the pad to move crosshairs around. That sucked. (BTW, did you know there is a "2 player" way to play Duck Hunt? On the single duck game, the second controller can be used to move the duck.)

I second Mario Kart 64, but if you've played later Mario Kart games (Double Dash, DS, Wii...) then you probably aren't missing much. I never really liked WaveRace, but everyone else seems to think it was great. (But it's not uncommon for me not to like a popular game. I always hated the StarFox games, for example.) Honestly, my favorite game ever for the 64 was Rogue Squadron, the Star Wars themed flying game. It required the expansion pack, I believe and came out soon after the pack did (may have even been bundled with it). I had played Shadows of the Empire (which came out before Rogue Squadron), but really only liked the flying portions (the 3rd person portions had terrible controls imo). I liked it enough that I bought it for my brother-in-law (he had the 64 back then, I did not). But my 64 is rarely played. The only game I have for it is Mario 64, and it is currently in storage (limited space).

TG-16 High Score contest. R-type
Eltigro replied to classicgamer_27330's topic in TG-16/PC Engine High Score Club
New high score for me: 225,800. (Still trying and posting even though I am probably the only one still paying attention.) Pretty much figured out the third stage/boss now, just need more practice on it. Keep dying near the end of it. -

Eltigro replied to classicgamer_27330's topic in TG-16/PC Engine High Score Club
Dammit! Finally broke the 200k barrier, but didn't get a pic. You have to be fast to get it before it disappears and in my haste, I pressed something on my phone and it went to a photo instead of the camera. Then I finally got past the third stage but the high score was only in the 170,000's. That ricochet laser has been my main friend until the fourth stage, where it is not helping much. These things come out and trail bubble things behind them (think the cycles in Tron), and the ricochet laser just bounces off of them instead of cutting through them. -
Favorite Resident Evil 2 version?
Eltigro replied to cimerians's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I apologize in advance for the poor picture quality. They were taken in a storage room with my phone and didn't realise they looked that bad until they were on my computer. The RE2 shirt has a zombie picture with "Resident Evil 2" on the back, and the "Capcom" name on the left chest. I also found and went ahead and took pictures of the Final Fantasy VII shirt that I got when I got that game. It has Cloud and the "Only on Playstation" logo on the back, the FF7 logo on the left chest, and "Squaresoft" on the left sleeve. (The small print on the back by Cloud says, "Name: Cloud; Job: Former Soldier; Age: 21; Weapon: Sword; Height: 173cm; Blood-type: ab". So it appears Cloud is a universal recipient.) (It wouldn't let me post the images in the normal way, so I'm attaching them as files. Hope they don't open strange and all huge and stuff.) -

Regrets you may have made with your game collection?
Eltigro replied to ddaniels's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have a few of those, too. I remember when Toys R Us was heavily discounting Sega Genesis stuff (this was around when the N64 and the Genesis 3 came out, iirc. I got a Genesis 3 for my nephews around then. I asked my sister about it recently and she said that it quit working a while back so they threw it out. sigh... ) I could have gotten quite a few nice bargains if I'd had the cash at the time. Also when Saturn started failing later, I worked at Target and could have gotten some REALLY nice deals on stuff, but I was all Playstation at the time and didn't really look into it. When the TurboGrafx-16 started failing, the local Hasting's store (the only place in town where you could rent TG games) started selling off their rental games. I only had money for a couple (got Military Madness and Psychosis), but could have bought so many more. I remember passing on an NES top loader with dog-bone controllers I saw in a pawn shop once. (I had gone in looking or TG-16 games and didn't want to spend the money on an NES, ended up getting a top loader on eBay later, but no dog bones.) That same pawn shop had a Master System that I didn't buy, either. There used to be an Atari store in town a long time ago. The guy who ran it didn't deal with anything but Atari. I remember going in there and he was all gung ho about the Jaguar and showing it off. He had racks and racks of 2600 games (mostly cart only) and that's where I got my copy of Adventure, but I didn't buy any of the Jag stuff he had. Last I looked the shop was gone. If he was still around, I'd buy a lot of that stuff now. [Edit/Addendum] On a whim, I looked up "Longview Atari Shop" in Google. (Longview's the name of the town it was in.) The first hit was an online yellow pages listing for it. I was excited until I saw the street view was a different business in a different building. The building the shop was in isn't even there anymore. The second result was an old Atari Age post that I had made about the shop. lol http://atariage.com/forums/topic/122169-video-game-shops-in-your-town-that-sell-atari-2600/page__st__25 -
Regrets you may have made with your game collection?
Eltigro replied to ddaniels's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Back around 90 or 91, I had just recently got my TurboGrafx-16, and wasn't really playing my NES any more. I let my mom put it in a garage sale. I had the system, two regular controllers, Max controller, Advantage controller, Power Glove, Zapper, about fifteen games, and a couple years worth of Nintendo Power magazines. I put a nice high price on it all (hoping to use the money for a new TG game) and left her with it. When I returned that evening, I found that it had sold, but my mom had marked it down to $40 because "it wasn't selling." Arrrggggg! Not even enough to buy a game. What a waste. My biggest regret though was letting a friend of mine borrow just about my entire PS1 game collection when I got my PS2. They were in a Case Logic CD case and included Suikoden 1 and 2, Einhander, Final Fantasy VII and many other games. He moved and "lost" them. (I still have the empty cases for a few of them. I wish for a time machine every time I see them.) -

TG-16 version. Saw an old, abandoned HSC for it and started playing it more. Flicker keeps getting me killed in third stage though. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.)

What game do you have the most versions/ports of?

I don't have a lot of duplicates... but I have Phantasy Star III on Genesis, GameBoy Advance (Phantasy Star Collection), and XBox 360 (Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection). -
Anyone else start up a game just to hear the attract mode?

Only one I've played was the PS version. I got a RE2 T-Shirt with purchase or preorder or something. I need to dig that out of storage and take a pic, y'all might be interested to see it (or, knowing this group, half of you probably have the same shirt). -
Anyone else start up a game just to hear the attract mode?
Eltigro replied to Eltigro's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I used to live next door to a guy who had one of those. In his apartment. On the third floor. It took him, me, and the two moving guys (along with the removal of the control panel) about thirty minutes to get it up the stairs. Luckily, once it was in place, put back together, and plugged in, there were four of us there to test it out. It was pretty loud for that little one bedroom apt, so I think he kept it unplugged most of the time. -
It's finished! My rotary duo mod! See the facebook photos here..
Eltigro replied to Guitari's topic in Atari Jaguar
Nice, but I have a question. Does the knob get in the way much when you are playing with the D-Pad? I know when I'm playing, part of my hand is pretty much right where the knob seems to be. Just wondering. Also, I'm with Gunstar. I'd prefer a more of a 1-to-1 on the sensitivity. Sounds like his (Gunstar's) is too sensitive. -
Sometimes, when I'm doing something like browsing the internet, cleaning house, or whatever, I'll just find a game and stick it in and turn it on, just to have the attract mode play as background noise. I've done this with Raiden and R-Type on my TG-16 most recently, but I've done it with several systems and games.

I've never hated any consoles. I've been angry with a few when they aren't working and I can't figure out why. (Sometimes have no sound on my Genesis model 2) I get frustrated when the batteries run down on my Saturn or Dreamcast VMU (I don't play them as much as I used to). But never hated any of them.

Time travel to golden age of video games?

Speaking of early Atari days and people, I read that Alcorn has a Kickstarter for a game he's making. Something about cards and smartphones or something. http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/pong-creator-back-trivia-card-game-6C10658380 -

Eltigro replied to Eltigro's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Sorry, someone earlier had asked about the games, too and I never responded. The games are Joust, Defender I and II, Robotron, Rampage, Splat, Satan's Hollow, Root Beer Tapper, Bubbles, Wizard of Wor, Timber and Sinistar. I only really playde Rampage, Joust, Defender, and Sinistar and hadn't played those in a while. It just wasn't that fun with the issues it had (see earlier comment). Here's a review that someone did for more info on it. http://retroblast.arcadecontrols.com/reviews/biggames.html
