Memories of where and when you first played/saw this game
Cap5750 replied to retrorussell's topic in Arcade and Pinball
I think the first time I saw Track & Field, it was while camping. Yep, that's right...CAMPING! As it turns out, the campground owners had a little clubhouse where you could go in and play a few games...maybe pool too, I forget. The games I remember them having...Track & Field, Pac-Man Cocktail and Berzerk. It was good that this was available because the fishing was horrible! -
When you say you cleaned it, I'm assuming it was with a q-tip, etc? Also, you might try wiggling the cart around a bit before turning it back on. I have a couple of games where the cart needs to sit in the console at a funky angle because the contacts are bent or something. I've also seen where it would work fine on one type of console (like the jr) but not another (like a vader).

Just spotted a 2600 sitting on a TV at the beginning of the new (2011) Muppets movie!

NOT building on my PS2 collection
Cap5750 replied to Cap5750's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
And I'm a weirdo I guess. I probably shouldn't have posted about a console in classic "computing". -
Yikes! I just looked up the first game (Congo Bongo) and found a complete one for only $849.99! It was prices like that which made me decide I was pretty much done buying 2600 games.

So I was surfing around the other day and ended up on the Gamestop site. I noticed they had a sale of classic PS2 games. Yeah, I know all about the "bad" that Gamestop does, but I actually get a lot of decent deals on used games. I thought about this as I was actually messing around with my original PS2 the other day and decided to look around at what games they had in the sale. I saw that most of it was cheap-o stuff though there were a few "classics" in there as well. And hey...I'm actually a fan of sports games and there were plenty of those as well. My PS2 collection is very small. I'm not sure of the exact count, but I'd say it's around 10 and 4 or 5 of those I got when I bought the original system when it first came out. So I sat down and added around 50 games. All of the prices were between 1.99 and 3.99 and as a reward member, I was getting 10 pct off of that. In addition, for every two games, I was getting two for free. Now for the fun part. As I went to submit the order, it quickly came back and told me my billing address didn't match my address with my financial institution. Okay, I must've mistyped something. I went back and re-did it. NOPE! Same error. Logged into my financial institution and typed it again exactly as it was on my statement. Nope...didn't like the plus-4 zip-code. Switched it back and tried it one more time. NOPE! It complained I was getting close to my allow attempts to pay. WHAT?!?! Needless to say I gave up. But not before I noticed that when I had entered all my personal info (Address, Phone and Credit Card), the saved it on my behalf automatically without asking me! To make matters worse, as I tried to delete everything, I noticed that one of the addresses didn't even have a delete option and the fields were required. I was forced to type in bogus information in order to get out of it. Sorry, I don't like places that store my information that way. If my account were to somehow get hacked (think PS3 network here), I don't need all my personal info to be with it. Anyway, I sent them a polite note informing them of my trouble. Not unexpected, I have not received a response. Oh for the old days, where I could go on E-Bay and spend a few bucks to instantly pick up most of the good commons for a system!

I should have mentioned both my A1s have the expansion interface.

That's a good thing to do. There are maybe a few games I get that I know I "need" right away. Most other ones, I always wait until the price comes down...either new or used. Of course, now that some designers are "crippling" used software, waiting for the price to come way down seems the best way to go!

Please don't tell me I have to go back to Lowe's to buy a new roll of electrical tape because I can't find the roll I already have!
-
I'm afraid it really isn't that interesting. The top of the blender is off and I had evidently just set the roll down in the slot where it would go.

lol...yep. Not much of an electrician. But I managed to get the ceiling fan done and everything worked on the first try!

Beyond Two Souls looks interesting. I watched the trailer twice trying to figure out who the girl reminded me of. It finally dawned on me that she looked like Ellen Page. And that's who it is!

If they (Sony) would allow me to connect an external HD and download the games there, I would gladly give them 50 bucks a year for the service. But my HD is already pretty much full and I only have a few games (Rag Doll and two games we got for free after the hacking incident). The rest is game saves and bluray stuff. All of these games (or most) were posted earlier this week. One of them is 14.1 GIG! I wouldn't even have enough room to download it much less install it!

The PC version is even cheaper. $5.59. I bought the PS3 version a long time ago and never even took it out of the wrapper. Maybe I should as we get ready for Bioshock Infinite next year.

How is this game? I picked it up new for 20 bucks at Best Buy on New Years Eve, but we haven't played it yet. -
Are there really that many Move players out there?
Cap5750 replied to ComputerSpaceFan's topic in Sony Playstation 3
I went as far as running into Gamestop last Friday to have another look. I just couldn't do it. Sure, it might be cool twenty years from now to say..."Hey check out this (RARE!) controller I have for the PS3.". But I just couldn't talk myself into it. I mean, I gotta my extra controllers, a camera, a charger and games. I'm leaning towards a Kinect. No controllers needed and you can hook it up to your PC and write your own stuff for it. A guy I work with brought one in and hooked it up to his laptop. He gave out candy if we came and tried some program where things are falling on the screen and you made your little stickman hit them. I think we had to score 100 points or something. At the end of the week, he showed us the video he recorded. Funny funny stuff! Especially when I was facing away from the camera. I noticed that I was doing better by "shakin my rump". Like I said, lots of laughs. -
The week prior, Sheila (Joan Cusack) was using a virtual reality device to help her work through her agoraphobia. She was using a 2600 joystick to control the movement.

Smurf Rescue In Gargamel's Castle was the ColecoVision game. -
Hmm...maybe I'll have to do that. I read your comment at lunch, so I came home after work and played again. This time, I used one of my original carts. I didn't give up any hits this time, so I got the perfect game. Oh yeah, somehow I scored 29 runs!

I decided to play a game of homerun tonight. It's the first time I played it in a pretty long time. First inning, first batter gets a hit off me. Wow. But no problem, I get a double-play to remove the runner. Offensively, I was following my tip in the "How to play Homerun" thread regarding swinging early to try and go down the lines. So my first at-bat (after the initial batter reached), I did it perfectly getting a guy to second. This led to a run. And it kept going! The final was 11 - 0. I ended up giving up just the one hit, but faced the minimum 27 batters. I don't recall EVER scoring this many runs against the computer before. If I have, it's been so long, I don't remember! I also had 3 doubles in the game...yet another thing I don't remember doing. I'll just blame the harmony cart for allowing me to walk into the game room, sit down and play a quick game of "something"!

Forgot to order something to hook up 7 compoisite and 3 rf items at the same time. At least they look good on the shelves!!!

Which game was it? Niterider. I played it again just a short while ago (to figure out which game it was ) and doubled my score with 1,513. You know, that's another thing I always loved about the Atari. Sure the games were simple with crude graphics and sound. But, when you have 5 minutes before leaving for work like I did this morning, you could always think..."Yeah...I could get a game of Kaboom! in before I go!".

The computer is a very difficult opponent.....Sort of. I've always been able to stop him for the most part. Often times (especially after playing a couple of warmup games), I can through no-hitters. But what I've always found difficult is actually scoring myself. Sure, the first hitter gets on, but then each batter after that would hit into a force play. My biggest hope was to try and time the swing just right to get it down one of the lines. Once you get that guy to 2nd with nobody out, you're pretty much guaranteed to score about 95% of the time.

Ordered the cart on Wednesday, it shipped on Thursday (I think) and I got it tonight when I got home from work. The first thing I noticed is that their newspaper uses the same fonts and section name as ours here. HAHA! The cart looked like it had been cleaned, yet I still couldn't help but wonder what it had been in a previous life. Most likely, it was a combat, but who knows? While I've had an Atari out for quite some time, it's rarely been used. In fact, it was disconnected from the TV and unplugged (though there was a Seaquest cart in it). So I wanted to try a few games with a little bit of time I had. I tried: 1. Space Invaders. One of my faves. I used to be able to flip this on a single man without thinking about it. I didn't think I'd do that since I haven't played the game probably since I did the marathon gaming session over 4th of July a couple of years ago. Still, I didn't expect to lose a guy in the first 10 seconds either. But I did! Yikes! I did horrible only scoring 3000 or so points. 2. I wanted to see one of the homebrew games that I had only seen on my laptop. I fired up one of the multicart games that came with the cart and just randomly chose one of the games. I had no clue what I was doing at first, but quickly picked up what I was "SUPPOSED" to do, but had a terrible time doing it. I think the highest I managed to get was just over 700. 3. Finally, there was a hack that I always wanted to see on the original hardware and that was Berzerk VE. While the original 2600 version is fun, nothing beats actually hearing "The humanoid must not escape!". Evil Otto and company kicked my butt as I managed to only get a few thousand measly points. And a couple of other observations: 1. What's happened to my reflexes over the past couple of decades? 2. I was using an original Atari joystick. I don't remember these sticks ever being as uncomfortable as it felt tonight. I think I'll be grabbing one of my other favorite sticks (Gemstick or Epyx 500XJ) and see if those are a little more comfortable. Anyway, thanks for the cart! It certainly is (and going to be) a lot of fun!
