  1. hi all when removing the inards from a VCS 2600 on the metal shield on top where the cartridge slots in there is a small hole with what looks like an allen key head for adjusting - the plastic bit around it is red can anyone tell me what this is for? thanks
  2. ok - well i have it mostly working now! removed the 3 removable IC chips and i now have the game playing and 2600 working fully expect for........... the sound is very weak! the picture is perfectly clear and i've tried trimming the RF modulator - i've even changed it for another working one i had and still the same problem when playing a game you can faintly here the sound amongst loads of TV interference so come on people - has anyone got any ideas to why the sound is weak? it's almost fully working again!
  3. hi yep i have the snow picture then i turn on the atari and it goes dark and no sound at all - i've tried several different carts and it's all the same so what could i start ti check then?
  4. yep - ariel lead from the 2600 into the back of the TV - when i turn the 2600 on - screen on TV goes blank grey/black and no sound
  5. hi all i was testing out my original VCS 6 switch woody today but when i turn it on with a game in the slot all i get is a blank dark screen i've tried several games - all the same anyone got any ideas what it could be? ariel lead is ok and plugged in inside the VCS - all connections are ok and PSU is good help please!
  6. hello does anyone have one of the large (not smaller as there were 2 types) mouse balls and slide plate that holds it in place used on the atari mouse? i have a spare mouse with those bits missing - would be good to be able to use it again :0) i'm in the UK thanks
  7. i have a rare and original atari 6 switch VCS woody games console from the late 1970s part no CX 2600 made in Sunnyvale USA its in very clean condition for its age with no damage to anything whatsoever - it comes with the 2 joysticks pair of paddles power supply (non atari) and 7 classic games which are dodge em millipede dragon fire phoenix yars revenge laser gates crystal castles pictures on request All cartridges are loose Everything has been fully tested and it all works fine Any questions please ask £40 plus £10 secure postage - UK only
  8. hello can anyone help me as to where i can find/buy the opto coupler which was used on the atari st power supply - this was the small white chip with 6 pins - made by Sharp part no: pc101 - i'm either looking for this one or an alternative - if anyone has any experience in this any help would be appreciated :0)
  9. hello i have an atari with what appears to be a dead psu - when i turn on the st neither of the lights come on - i've checked the fuse - that's ok - i know this is a common problem with ataris - does anyone know what the common faults are or what i could do? any help appreciated - thanks.
  10. how do you know it's not the drive itself? that's the most common problem for not reading disks - if the drive is ok - you could swap the disk controller chip with one from another ST (cheapest option - silly money to buy i believe - hope you're good at soldering!)
  11. hello i guess i should've said that - the fuse is fine! - what are the common faulty components on these? - i know it's quite coomn for these to go completely dead - what else can i check? replace?
  12. hello does anyone know how to repair the st's PSU - and also what are the common faults that cause these things to go dead? ( turn on st - no power) any help appreciated. thanks
  13. thanks stephen! - do you know anything about ST power supplies? re: new thread. Roop
  14. hello can anyone help me on this? - i have a standard 520 stfm which works fine for the first few minutes of power up - and then when i access the disk drive after about 5 minutes of turning it on - the screen "dimms" to the sound of the disk drive accessing - in fact after about 10 minutes the disk drive cannont be accessed at all ( and i get the error message ) - it's as though there isn't enough power getting to it - i've changed the drive and it isn't that - so i assume it's the power supply - can anyone help me as to what could be the faulty component on the PSU? i know these are an atari issue! - also what is the common fault for a dead PSU? thanks Roop
  15. hello - thanks for your fast replies! yes this is the same problem as i posted on the other forum - and yes i do mean the thick black lead with a suction cup at the end (fly back lead - don't know who told me that name!) - could you tell me what the EHT trippler is? i guess there isn't much point in trying to mess about with it if this part is on the way out - it is quite an old monitor too - thank you for help anyway!
