Fired up my Jag that has been in storage for years.  Only have a few games and I am craving more.  Anyone selling?

    Thanks.

I have a few AA store games listed in the buy/sell forums. I also have a complete boxed Checkered Flag and a cart with overlay Cybermorph if interested.

  2. Call them. I applied for their offered joycon repairs for my kid six months ago (for the drifting issue). They never responded, but their system sent me a survey asking how "good" the service I received from the technician was. Again, nobody ever contacted me.

That said, thanks for reminding me to call them myself and give them a piece of my mind.

  3. Ten years ago (and even five years ago) is really an eternity when it comes to the prices of vintage working consoles. Compounded with the fact that the Vectrex (like a few others) cannot really be considered "common" anymore. And, different regions will have very different pricing depending on the supply/demand in that region.

I cannot speak for Europe as I live in the USA. There may be deals to be had in Europe for a MB version of the Vectrex....or maybe not. But what I can speak of are USA prices on these things after struggling to obtain a nice clean working one over the past couple of years.

You are not getting a "minty boxed" Vectrex in the USA for $500 unless the person selling it has no idea of the value. You can get a really nice condition console with a controller (loose and working of course) for about $400-$500 minus the shipping. You can buy just a controller for $150-$200 if you feel like you need a spare. You can get a crap unit with issues for $200-$250 minus shipping if you keep looking and are so compelled.

The Vectrex is by no means a cheap endeavour...at least here in the USA. They never surface...at least on the east coast. I have never encountered one available for purchase locally (game stores, flea markets, etc) around these parts...ever. And I have been hunting for decades. I had to resort to an online trade in order to obtain one myself.

Ugh.  What is it with "YouTubers" and these long ass response and rebuttal videos?

Yeah, he rambles on..no doubt. But all said I think David is a pretty good guy and I've actually enjoyed some of his videos and I am pretty certain he meant no malice. I have royally f**ked up things in the past either not thinking it through or rushing...smacked myself and was completely ashamed to the fact that I would just not let anyone know what I did. At least this guy records his F ups and publishes them. There have been a few videos of his in the past in which he used some chemical in cleaning or did something that warned me that this is what happens...and I am not going to go that route.

And, when there's controversy to this level regarding some guy farting around with old computer shit on youtube....man...we've all really gone pandemic bat-shit, now haven't we?

Well, that all I gotta say about that. My beer is getting warm :)

  5. This was one of those cheap GBA/DS flash carts from back in the day. All of your roms needed to be patched with the Supercard software in order to work. It was not the best thing (there were much better options) but it was common enough that I suspect someone has one of these lying around and not using it. I simply need one to run some GBA homebrew and after all of my moves I can't find mine for the life of me.

There were a few versions of this. One version I can find all over the place online is the miniSD version. I have a miniSD adapter and can go that route, but I'd rather not if I can find the SD card version.

If anyone has a Supercard that takes standard sized SD cards I would be interested. Not looking to spend a lot on this as I realize there are better options today, but I am simply trying to not spend much and be able to run GBA code. The miniSD version can be had for about $20 plus shipping. I am looking to pay that, or trade something for it.  Please PM if interested!

FWIW, the full version of VICE (assuming that THEC64 runs a licensed version of the emulator) has settings for CRT emulation and blur but perhaps they scaled away all the extra settings in order to make a simplified product? Since this is a mass market product, I suppose it dictates which features and options it should have and that the majority of customers are using a modern HDMI capable TV, expecting as crisp graphics as possible.

If you DIY something with a RPi or small PC, you probably can get composite video output from it. Or use real gear like many of us others. Yes, I know I am boring but when it comes to niche use cases you can't expect that a mass market product will satisfy those.

Yup, I use real gear on a real CRT (I have a few Commodores) so it isn't necessary for me to have a TheC64 at all let alone have one and hook it up composite or chroma/luma. But, it would be cool for that to be possible ;)

Aren't there external HDMI to composite video degraders?

I have never found anything that truly works "good". They all display a really cruddy or unreliable image. I have tested so many of these in the past and they never satisfy.

The RetroTink works so well for taking old sources to HDMI. I think what I would need here is a reverse RetroTink ;)

Aside this, TheC64 is really a fantastic device. I would highly recommend this to newcomers that just want a simple and easy way to play some old games and do some basic things on the computer. It's cheaper than a real machine, much less prone to issues, easier to get connected to a modern display, easier to get software to it, has a pretty good keyboard. It's really great that this thing exists at all.

  8. Might be a long shot, but here goes nothing.

I am looking for a complete boxed original launch Nintendo DS handheld. This came in the "Metroid Prime Hunters - First Hunt" packaging and was the launch console. I purchased this in NYC on launch day with my four month old daughter in the car with me. That same daughter is now 16 years old...holy cow.

Anyway, it would be great to obtain an excellent condition copy of this boxed console. I am looking for as near mint as I can possibly find, with everything it originally included (box, demo game, packaging materials, paperwork, console of course).

I realize it might be a long shot, but I figured I would put this out there. I can buy at a fair price or trade for something in my collection.

    PM!

  9. I think TheC64 full sized unit is a good device. It is especially a good device for those folks who do not have a C64 at all anymore and just want to have most of the experience without dealing with nearly 40 year old hardware. It does indeed work great and the software compatibility is quite high. The emulation is pretty spot on.

The only thing that kills it for me is that it is HDMI only. Of course it is pixel perfect crisp on an HDMI flat panel TV, but that is not nostalgic to me personally. I like to use my Commodore 8-bit machines with a CRT TV. If they just added a composite or s-video option that would have been great.

  10. I think its great when the kids get involved. I have had my 11 year old involved in a lot of projects like this, so I'm not dissing the guy that listed this auction in any way and I don't want it to be construed that way. I just thought it was kind of funny as the auction was listed as "fully serviced" and started out with some professional type pictures of dead test, running various OSes (like CP/M) and so on....and then the last picture is some little kid on the floor doing some work. Not saying that she cannot do the job, but when I think of a fully serviced vintage computer I have the thought in my mind that it has been serviced on a bench in a professional environment by an adult who knows the hardware and is taking great care of the 35 year old machine.

    You just never know ;)

Looks good...except when I saw the last picture of what looks like a 10 year old girl sticking a screwdriver into a C64 and working on it on their carpet floor....with parts strewn about on the carpet. I am pretty sure the seller did not mean to add that picture. Pretty funny regardless.

  12. I know that there was a small (obviously!) compilation of C128 specific games/apps/demos floating around a few years ago but every link I find is dead. I would love to test some more specific C128 stuff using the BackBit. Does anyone have a lead on this or perhaps an updated C128 only compilation?

  13. I am looking specifically for an Amiga 600 in good shape with power supply. If it is yellowed that is OK, just no physical damage or missing components...and of course it has to function. I know this model uses surface mount caps that leak, so if they were replaced that would also be a good thing.

I am looking for this model specifically because of its form factor....I have limited space. It does not matter if it is a PAL or NTSC model.

I am willing to trade outright for it my completely decked out vintage pre-Dell Alienware system which includes a bunch of modern upgrades to make the computer a joy to use in a modern age. You can read more about it here:

We would each cover our own shipping...which will be a better deal for you surely than it will be for me :) Only inside of the USA. PM if interested.

  14. I had a few units in the past that did this. It is coil whine...which still occurs today. I work for a video card manufacturer and when the Geforce GTX 900 series came out they all experienced pretty much the same thing. We received a lot of calls about it but we were all instructed to say that this was "normal" and is not considered a warranty related issue/problem ;)
