    5200 Tempest

I completely hear you! Funny the things that are coming out NOW
  2. Got Atari 5200 Sinistar from the store today! As always (I have ordered from the store many times before) it came packed solid and is..well..brand new! Looks fantastic! I plan on asking for an AA Store gift certificate for Xmas, as I just want to go on a shopping spree there!
  3. Heh, yeah, wonder why there are suddenly two of these in the forum! I'm actually selling mine for another reason..but... Still $100 is pretty good...especially shipped. This cart goes for $130 plus shipping....coming out to nearly $140 when you buy it through Atarimax. Same deal with the new SD cart. So, saving $40 on a cart that does what it does is no small change. It's easy to program, needs no SD card, and stores 127 games....more than enough to have a pretty solid set of roms zapped to it.
  4. Great trader! Traded some PS2 games for some 7800 games (many sealed!) He shipped first as he didn't have much feedback here. Well, I can say that he is an outstanding member and trader. I would definitely trade with him again!
  5. Here's a pic of the cart. I know the SD version just came out (or will in August) but still, you would be saving $30 either way to get homebrew and rom s over to your Colecovision. The cart works fantastically. It needs no memory or memory cards...just program it via USB and you are done. Please see the pics!
  6. Only purchased this a few weeks ago. It is a great unit, but unfortunately I need funds now. It is in pristine condition of course, and comes with all included paperwork, usb cable, install cd. I paid about $140 shipped for this, but will now take $110 shipped (in the USA) for it. PM if you want it!
  7. My actual game cart (as well as running it from rom through my Atarimax cart) both work the same way that you describe. Maybe they had plans for these options but canned them (while still leaving the unedited docs in there)? Either way, I think right fire button pause would be annoying! I'd probably hit it by mistake during playing.

    Tight Slot

Yup. I have had a few 7800 systems that range from inserting and removing carts perfectly smoothly (early models) to the system almost not being able to accept even some later 7800 carts! Atari apparently screwed up the mold somewhere down the line. But, as said above, you can remove the collar completely if you want to and then you'll not have an issue inserting any cart
  9. So sad. Usually if a system is trashed, it is trashed for poor performance, games and the like. This console is one of the very few in history that is continually trashed not for those things, but for the damn controller....heh. If Atari stuck with it at the time (if that was even possible) and did release this, the system would have gone down in history in a much better light than it is seen in today. Still, I *love* my 5200 Here's to one day seeing a really good joystick replacement!
  10. Ok, something cannot be right with that jerky poster a page or two back (on crack maybe?) as my experience is quite the opposite with Yurkie: Sent my system out to get the full nine yards (A/v mod, Pause mod, Ball knob sticks, straightened cords, full refurb) and it came back after about a weeks time. It arrived today and I am absolutely floored! The system plays like it never has before. Games that previously gave me problems (even tho they are super clean) now boot up instantly. This definitely gave YEARS to my system. The joystick mods are great. The ball replacement is certainly a good thing, as I can control SO much better than with the stock sticks. Keep in mind that I am no newb when it comes to these controllers. I purchased and have been playing the Colecovision since 1983, and I have to say that this joystick improvement was LONG overdue. After having used these I cannot go back to the standard controller! And who knew straightening those coil cords would give you 10+ freakin' feet! The pause button is also a great feature that Yurkie installed. Easy pause and un-pause of games on the fly. The a/v mod is non-intrusive with one small standard headpjhone sized jack on the back of the unit. The whole modification screams quality, and Yurkie has a pretty solid name here in the forums for what he does regarding Colecovision repair. Don't know exactly what happened to that 8 post guy, but rest assured that the buyer does not have to be so "aware" when it comes to working with him. One of the best Colecovision modders I have come across in years!
  11. Just received a modded Colecovision from Yurkie with the pause function, and it works exactly how it should. It pauses the game without any hidden "noises" like I have heard other pause modifications exhibit. Flip the switch and it pauses (silent), flip again and you are back in the game. Superb!
  12. Ok, the ball controller is... Necessary! Really, this thing works great. I recently had a custom Colecovision job done by Yurkie which of course included this modification, and I have to say, holy crap! It feels like a whole new controller, literally. I am definitely doing better at scoring with these...no question. Do yourself a favor and get these sticks now. You need them!
  13. Alright, I'll now try $60 shipped. That is more or less what one of these would go for shipped nowadays...with the second (partially defective) one for free. Any takers before these go to auction?
  14. Really nice! No trading? Just cash? I wouldn't even know where to begin to make an offer.
  15. $65 shipped for both?
  16. I really have to agree here. I never understood why people hated the auto switch box. Because you had to hook it up differently? Come on now... Ok, maybe it sparks if you plug the console cable in while power is running to it, but that is half the fun! Seriously tho, the box does allow the display on the system to be MUCH clearer than the standard rf switchbox. It nearly looks like composite on my TV! As for using the 2600 adapter, I also have a four port model, but it is a "fixed" release version. Atari started fixing the four port models to be compatible with the Atari 2600 adapter and you can decipher this by looking at the serial number. If you have one in which the serial number begins with an asterisk (*) you know you have the ultimate model....the one that can play Pitfall (this game is not compatible with the 2-port model) AND you can use the 2600 adapter (4-port models without the "fix" can't use it) So, look for the "star"

    5200 Tempest

This is indeed a great time to have a 5200! Tempest is going to kick ass!
  18. I spoke with someone at Best today and they say that they have gotten literally no of their gold units back since 2005. So, by that estimate, should be years as long as they are taken care of
  19. Really great seller/trader! Got some nice (and rare) 7800 games from him as well as a converted NES pad for the 7800. Shipping took awhile, but not his fault. Canada/USA border is tight as expected after 9/11. All in all a fantastic trasaction and I would not hesitate to do business with him again!
  20. Hah! I always assumed the hissing was a small fan inside!
