Just so odd. Well, in any case, last time I use any Sega controller in a Commodore machine. It was probably just pure coincidence but no need to chance it again
-
If the cable had such a short wouldn't it affect its functionality on a Sega Master System as well? I tested both controllers I have on a real Sega Master System using a game (Fantasy Zone) that uses both buttons. UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT (and diagonals) work fine in the game and button 1 (shoot) and button 2 (bombs) work fine as well.

We REALLY need modern replacements for the CIA's.

I just checked the SID chip to be safe and it is fine. I spoke to Ray Carlsen about what happened and he thinks it may have just been an odd coincidence and the chip was just failing. Really weird timing if that is the case.

One controller, two buttons. I agree about the danger part
-
For years I have heard this for Genesis controllers, but never SMS controllers as they are wired differently. Many people on Lemon64 swear by using the SMS pad as well. But, I have to agree. I won't test it again that is for sure!
-
You know, I could swear I have used SMS (Sega Master System) controllers on Commodore machines in the past with no issue. But today I had an issue. I wanted to test the directionals of one SMS pad I have and usually I use a joystick tester application I have for the C64/C128. I was using a C128 today to do this. Plugged the controller in port 2, ran the test, all seemed good. I did press the second button on the SMS pad and of course it did nothing as only button 1 registers as fire on the Commodore. After I was done with the test I turned off the C128, unplugged the SMS pad and returned my Hyperkin joystick. When I turned the C128 back on the fire button on the controller would not work! Directionals worked, but not the fire button. I suspected a CIA issue and I was right. After swapping around the CIA's the fire button on port 2 works. So, one slightly defective CIA it appears. Do you guys think the SMS pad did this? Maybe when I pressed button 2? Or just an odd coincidence? Either way, now I have to source another CIA....and I am never introducing a SMS controller to the computer ever again!

I suspect it was working (self test LED displaying self test check good according to the member who confirmed that) and you did not install the drivers for it on any of these computers and then went off into a hissy fit because it was "bad". Then you probably starting plugging and unplugging it while it was connected to the PC and actually caused some kind of REAL problem with that board. No, I will not meet with you again. Contact Ultimarc for support on the as-is purchase that you made. Goodbye. -

Now it does not light up anymore? What else is "happening" with this that you would like to divulge? I am done here. You are now on my banned from sale list. -
If I ever decide to deal/trade with anyone that has a "Battlesphere" title screen as their avatar please warn me/stop me. I know I should have taken that as a sign to walk away...

So, the right thing (for you) is that I should give you a full refund on an as-is sold item? What I am doing is trying to help you troubleshoot the problem so that you can get this to function... and in all honesty as the controller was sold as-is ("suspected" to function) I really do not have to do that at all. But, I am doing (or trying to do) that with you because I truly am trying to help remedy the problem. But you are apparently not reading anything I am saying just as you did not read the description of the item for sale before you decided to come and purchase it. If you want to troubleshoot the problem please take my suggestions. I will not be discussing this issue in this thread further. -

That is not exactly what I said. I did not say "yes, it works". I said exactly what I posted in the first thread. That I briefly tested half of it (one of the two USB's) and it registered on a retropie. I also told you that test was done roughly a year ago. You have outright refused to take any steps whatsoever to find out what the issue is at all. I have made quite a few recommendations to try to help get this issue resolved for you. And, you should think twice before you continue your attempt to slander me here. Anybody who knows me knows I am straight up and I try to help and correct problems if they arise. I am trying to do that even considering this was not sold as "100% functional" at all. But if you refuse to put in the effort to help me to help you I can do nothing more. If you do decide to actually troubleshoot the problem logically you can try a bunch of things that I just found with some quick Google searching for you. 1. The RED LED is a self test LED. I am still not sure what it means if it is solid red as you say. But, it is suggested online when issues arise to check and double check all of the wiring connections and ground connections. There are a lot of wires on this thing. I would check all of them one at a time. I did not dig around for the manual, but you should try to obtain it as I would suspect it will explain the self test LED codes. But again, dozens of wires. Maybe one is not making full connection. 2. Double check the USB/PS2 wire itself. Make sure the pins are not bent and it is making good connection. Make sure you are not connecting the PS2 interface or the USB's to a hub or adapter. Directly plug them into the computer. There was also a secondary port on that board that I noticed. I am not sure what that is but its worth a shot to look into what its function is. 3. Remove the device from device manager, reboot and let windows find it again. 4. If found by the OS, it may need to be re-flashed with the BIOS available on the Ultimarc website 5. Again, go back to the wiring. Looking at my own pictures of the board it appears quite a few of those wires are "coming out". While I have not given this more than a brief test and I know very little about arcade controls as stated, I do know that wiring that is coming out is never a good thing. It could be something as simple as a wire not making full connection. 6. If all else fails, you can email [email protected] and ask him what he thinks the next steps should be. You can also start a thread in their support forum regarding the issue while you wait for Andy to reply. -
I have been trying to assist you with the problem. Did you email Ultimarc support as suggested? Did you post a thread in the arcade forums asking what this could be as I suggested? Did you do anything other than plug it in, say "hey this is not working" and then blow up my phone with "I want a refund!" text messages and attempt to stain my good name all over the forums? I suspect I know the answer to all of these questions... You didn't read the sale thread. Nowhere did I ever mention that this was 100% working. Or fully tested. Nor did it have a quality seal or a "money back guarantee". It was sold as is. I purchase stuff from craigslist, facebook marketplace, yard sales, etc all of the time and I never suspect any of that works 100%. And those sellers usually do give you a line that it "works fine". I however was completely transparent about the condition and what I did and what I did NOT know about this device. If you are not willing to first take the steps I had recommended to see what is up with this thing then I cannot help you further unfortunately. You need to find out exactly what is wrong with that thing first.

I agree, I recommended first contacting Ultimarc support as they seem to have a good track record with customers (from what I have been reading online since he reported this issue) and we can go from there. But I have the feeling from the text messages I have been receiving from this member that he is not willing to put in any repair effort. He just wanted something that worked 100% and expected that. The problem is I did not (and could not) guarantee that and I thought I was pretty clear about it.
-
Yes, the thread IS here: This was sold as a partially tested item and I was pretty clear about that. If it were fully tested it would NOT have been $200. I have very solid feedback here on AtariAge and have bought/sold/traded with hundreds of folks over the years. Before you decide to attempt to badmouth someone you should try to calm down, think logically and try to resolve the problem via the methods I suggested.

I will make this perfectly clear. Here is exactly what I said regarding the state of this controller: I know very little about arcade controls, but they feel like the arcade to me. The inside has a million wires and some boards. Plugs coming out are two USB and a PS2. I am assuming the PS2 is for the trackball and one of the USB's for the trackball buttons. I tested this briefly with a Raspberry Pi using just the one USB and the joysticks worked fine. He really knew his stuff so I suspect it all works as it should." Suspecting it to work and knowing for sure if it all works are two different things. I only partially tested this a year ago and only tested half of it at that (it has two USB plugs, I was clear I only tested one). I was also transparent that I know nothing about arcade controls at all. This was sold as-is. Rest assured if I were selling this as "fully tested, everything confirmed working" this would have had a $600 price tag. As I recommended, contact the ultimarc people and see what they say. I have no idea why a red light would come on or what that means at all. I gave you the email for ultimarc support after a quick Google search ([email protected]). The bottom line is that if the board is the only problem and even if it is bad it is still a minor replacement at $65 when I checked. The parts in this controller not to mention the woodwork/box itself are worth three times that of what you spent. I sold this as a cash and carry as-is item that I do not know much about and I was completely honest about that. Unfortunately a refund is not an option as I am not a store. When you pick up something on craigslist or at a yard sale you typically cannot go back and get a "refund" on as-is items. EDIT: Here is someone with a similar issue and support helped him out: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/threads/ipac-not-working-where-to-start.253627/ -

If anyone knows anything about the ultimarc board in this can someone please PM the member "Lastblade"? I posted that I "suspect" this to work (because the person who gave it to me said it did) and also said that I only briefly tested it. He says the board has a "red light"? I am not sure what that issue is, but again, I am no expert and this was sold as-is. -
"Dirty Mary Crazy Larry" kind of reminds me a bit of Sugar Ray's "Mean Machine" somehow....can't put my finger on it. But I dig it man. Good stuff. I posted your videos to my facebook feed to see what my friends think. I suspect they will like what they hear. Hey, if you ever need a professional kazooist to join the group look me up.
