  1. Thanks to everyone who showed up to watch and chat, including our guest of honor, Mr. @Charlie Cat himself! Man I feel like playing some more Viewpoint.
  2. I'll be doing a stream tonight at about 9:15-9:30 EDT in honor of @Charlie Cat's Neo Geo thread having it's 10th anniversary! I'll just play random Neo Geo games casually. Requests welcome!
  3. Great job keeping this megathread up for 10 years, @Charlie Cat!! It's especially impressive that there's constantly new and interesting content.
  4. Last night on my Youtube series Old Games on a Thursday (Old GOAT) I continued my series of playing through Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar for Sega Master System in its entirety. I made some solid progress in this one, but man I feel like I've got to get the lead out, given that the overworld started throwing Hydras and Liches at me! As one of my viewers mentioned in the chat, the game throws more difficult enemies at you in the overworld depending on total number of turns taken, not how powerful you are. I did make some solid progress in this chapter, described in the following spoiler tag (in case anyone cares about that!): I've got to keep moving forward to complete the Quest of the Avatar! Excelsior!
  5. I just googled for this topic because I had a crazy idea to do this myself, and found this thread. Of course it's already been done, and that's awesome!
  6. Live stream begins at 8:30pm Eastern/New York time.
  7. (Yeah I forgot to post about Part 4 last week, lol) But Part 5 is tonight! at 8:30 Eastern (New York) time...I have fun chatting with you all as I play.
  8. The tl;dw on last night's Ultima IV Old GOAT: I explored a few new towns, acquired two new party members (Dupre the Paladin and Julia the Tinker) and found that equipping everyone with bows is awesome 🙂 (Poor Dupre is actually stuck with a sword for now.) So now we have four of the maximum eight characters. Feels like the party is growing pretty quickly. 😁 Also finally got to acquiring spell reagents and mixing some spells, including several Cures (which cures poison) which helped for the several times we got poisoned 🤮 and we found the Shrine of Sacrifice as well. My plan is to do a small amount of grinding offline to get Dupre a bow as well, and upgrade Julia's armor. maybe try to do a bit of leveling up and getting more spells mixed as well. then we shall resume the Quest of the Avatar on the next Old GOAT!
  9. Alright, let's keep doing the Ultima IV thing on tonight's Mark W Plays Old Games on a Thursday! Estimate start time is tonight, Jan. 18, 8:30pm Eastern Time.
  10. A few years ago, my weekly retro gaming stream was called "Monday MAME" in which I played emulated arcade games on my arcade cabinet. Gradually, more and more I pivoted to playing non-arcade games: old consoles and computers, and eventually Mark W Plays Old Games on a Thursday (Old GOAT) was born. So Monday MAME as a regular weekly stream was retired. But on rare occasion, I revisit Monday MAME, and it feels like a special treat when I do so! So this week I did an old school Monday MAME and had a lot of fun. Below is the archived stream in which I played viewer-requested hidden gems such as ZooKeeper (never played that one before!) and Hippodrome, as well as some old classics of my own choosing such as Satan's Hollow, Space Invaders and Asteroids.
  11. Last time, two weeks ago, I began a new play of Ultima IV: Quest for the Avatar on Sega Master System. Let's continue tonight, or as the Ultima IV menu puts it: "Journey Onward!"
  12. Hi there, I've been scouring the internet for an ACS editor because I thought it might be cool to try my hand at making games for it again, as I did as a kid, but I don't think I have patience for the old UI these days. Your viewer looks to be the closest thing, and at least you've got the file format figured out. Kudos for doing it!
  13. I've been doing this every year, as there are so many Christmas-related goodies - games and demos - to try for the Commodore 64...Commodore Christmas on the Old GOAT stream!
