"Adventure Plus": New Mazes, New Colors & More
Atarius Maximus replied to Atarius Maximus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
I'm looking forward to that too! The artist (Alan Hollingsworth) works primarily using pastels on paper, so the result should be very unique compared to existing label designs. I've got a 2400dpi scanner, so I'll scan and crop whatever he comes up with into the final label. His art has been published before on the cover of a magazine, and he has done the Compact Disc Label art for a rock band. Cool guy too! Here's an example of one of his prints from his website: (It's a low quality thumbnail scan, but it still looks pretty cool) He's a big Atari fan too, and was willing to work on this free of charge! Of course, the fact that he's an old college friend helped a little. AM -

Adventure Plus is a hack of the original. I don't think anyone has redone the game engine. AM -

I was continually replacing the original linked file with the latest version, so any of the previous links will give you the newest file. Here's the link again to the final version: [removed] Please go to the first post in this thread for the latest downloads. AM -
"Adventure Plus": New Mazes, New Colors & More
Atarius Maximus replied to Atarius Maximus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Very Nice! I had a nice label made up from an existing picture I found on the web, but I need to do something completely new and original for AA for copyright reasons. I expect to have my label completed for the AA store within the next week. I Agree! Seriously though, thanks for the vote of support. I feel so humbled, I think I'm starting to blush. Yes, Godzilla, I know that you'd like gradient walls in this hack. I actually prefer the look of the solid colors, because it looks more like the original game. If you can convince Channel 2 to work on making gradients on my hack for you I would have no problem with that, but I'm not going to do it myself. Sorry. AM -

I'm eagerly waiting to have a copy of my own on cart too! If you want to play it on a 2600 and you have a Supercharger, Beer Gnome reported earlier in this thread that it runs fine on his unmodified one. I haven't tried that yet. We need a label before it can go on sale, which is what I working on now. I've enlisted the help of a talented local artist to help me with an original design for the label art. I'm going to be seeing him this weekend to discuss the design so he can get started. AM -
Interesting. I've never seen a vader with the colored border on the top, but that's definitely a vader model. Maybe someone else could give their opinion on this one, but you've definitely found a unique Atari! AM
-
Forgot to mention, if yours is black on the front but has a yellowish orange border around the top, it's probably still a vader model. Maybe you could post a picture?

Here's a picture of my Darth Vader console, I hope this helps: BTW, welcome to the forums, and congrats on your first Atari purchase! AM
-
You can find pictures of all the Atari 2600 hardware elsewhere on this site. if it's black on the front and says "Atari 2600", it's likely a Darth Vader.

Atlantis Hacking Success!!! (Thanks Thomas!)
Atarius Maximus replied to Cybergoth's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Awesome! Atlantis was one of about 20 games I had as a kid (it was one of my favorites), and this really makes it better. Thanks Thomas! AM -
I think I may have mentioned this in a similar post some time ago, but my biggest letdown was Swordquest Earthworld. I bought it thinking it was going to be an awesome sequel to adventure, and i was utterly disappointed. I actually was able to return it to Toys'r'us and exchange it for Keystone Kapers, which is one of my all time favorites. I think it was easier to return opened games back then! AM

Thrust! I'm really bad at that game, but I seem to keep playing it anyway. I should have known I'd have a hard time with it since I'm so bad at Gravitar! AM

Woohoo! I recently had a great find at the local thrift, a box of Supercharger stuff: 2 Superchargers & Phaser Patrols, both Complete in Box with instructions Dragonstomper complete in box Suicide Mission complete in box Escape from the Mindmaster complete in box Communist Mutants from Space complete in box One of Superchargers works & one doesn't (blank screen, even after cleaning it), and the games all work on side B, but I have the Stella gets a new brain CD anyway. All for $10! AM

so what are you missing for to complete comapny x's games?
Atarius Maximus replied to Godzilla's topic in Atari 2600
I have the complete collections for: Imagic (All USA Releases, except for Atlantis II) Activision (Kabobber on a cart too, thanks to Hozer a few months back) US Games Absolute Entertainment CBS I need only Star Strike to complete my M-Network collection (I never see this one on ebay when I look!). I just finished by 20th Century Fox collection today, I found a copy of Earth Dies Screaming with a BIN of $1.39, and snatched it up quick. My copy of Crash Dive doesn't work though... AM -

It probably will be available in the AtariAge store at some point. I've been corresponding with Albert via email about it the past few days, we'll see. AM -

Maybe you should call it Acid Drop Adventure instead? or add a Warning: *Extended Play may cause hallucinations* Nope. No gradient walls in my hack. I'm done. -

Atarius Maximus replied to Atarius Maximus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Thank you very much for doing that for me. It looks alot better with no blink! Yes they did, hats off to them. I couldn't have done this hack without the detailed decompilation. Heh, thanks, but don't insult all the homebrewers out there, this was far easier than writing a new game from scratch. And trust me, there are not going to be any more updates to this hack! AM -
"Adventure Plus": New Mazes, New Colors & More
Atarius Maximus replied to Atarius Maximus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Ok, this will definitely be the last update, unless a bug is found somehwere in the game. Here are the changes since the last update: Yellow Castle and Black Castle moved. The 2 top entry rooms near the white castle were moved, and the original entrances were closed off. Several objects were moved, you will have to locate the moved rooms to find some objects. The bat was removed from Game 1, however the Red Dragon was left in there. The bat seemed to be adding and removing things from locked castles on Game 1, I'm not sure why. Just in case you want to be suprised at the new map layout, I'll post a link rather than the map image here. Take a look if you hate suprises. The map will be updated again later to make it look better. As far as I can tell, Games 1 through 3 are all playable and can be finished. If anyone wants to take the time to play each game a few times to verify that, that would be great. Map: [removed] Please go to the first post in this thread for the latest downloads. Download Game: [removed] AM, who is finally finished. Time to take a nap. -

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. As far as coming out on cartridge, I can't do that myself, I don't have the necessary equipment. It would be up to Albert or Alex to distribute it here, and they haven't made any comments on this thread yet. What do you think, guys? AM -
"Adventure Plus": New Mazes, New Colors & More
Atarius Maximus replied to Atarius Maximus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
I haven't had a chance to look at it again, but feel free to make the change yourself on the completed code. I'd certainly appreciate it. No, I couldn't find it. Actually, I think that I'll leave that for another project later this year, I've worked too hard on this hack already to try and re-do all of the mazes with extra rooms. Also, I've spent so much time on this already, I'm getting kind of tired of playing Adventure all the time. If I'm able to find the short code and add rooms, I guess we can have an Adventure Plus SE (Special Edition), right? Yes, I'm going to move around a few of the rooms and change the location of a few of the objects in the process. I should have the hack (and a new map) completed by later today. Then, that's it. Really. No more changes. AM -
"Adventure Plus": New Mazes, New Colors & More
Atarius Maximus replied to Atarius Maximus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
Thanks for your code change suggestion, but I'm not able to get it to work. I made the changes to the code as you described, but when I recompile it with DASM and run it in PCAE, it's just a blank grey screen with a little bit of black graphic garbage on it. I understand what you are talking about in your description, but I'm not a programmer by trade, I don't know what else to do to try and make it work. Hmmm... Moving the Screens around, not a bad idea. I may play around with that later tonight. I don't think it's possible, the player is not a sprite graphic. Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm sticking with Adventure+. AM -
"Adventure Plus": New Mazes, New Colors & More
Atarius Maximus replied to Atarius Maximus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
It may not be related (I'm by no means an expert at this), but the player (ball) graphic actually is present on the level select screen, it's just invisible and locked inside the wall at the upper right hand corner of the screen. I noticed it when I removed all of the walls on the title screen during my testing, and i was able to move the player around before the game even started. Could that be the cause of the flicker? If you would like to examine the code and remove the flicker, feel free, that would be great! Well, that leaves only two more things on the list that I was thinking about doing and didn't do. Changing the black castle maze a little bit more extensively, and changing around more of the colors. I didn't want to change the black castle maze too much because . The colors could be changed, but it's not really necessary. Would you rather visit the dark blue castle instead of the black castler? Or fight against Rhindle the Purple instead of Rhindle the Red? Oh, I guess I haven't answered your question yet. Let's give it a few more days, and I'll think about it. If you (or anyone else) wants to read the spoiler and give me your opinion about the black castle maze, send me a PM. AM -
You really should try them all and see which works best on your PC. Z26 has sound problems on my 98 PC (popping noises), but PCAE for Windows works great. AM

It really is hard to stop! After thinking about it, I decided I wanted to change a few of those empty rooms. You be the judge as to whether or not it's better. "Adventure Plus": New Mazes, New Colors & More
Atarius Maximus replied to Atarius Maximus's topic in Atari 2600 Hacks
The Easter Egg Screen and the invisible dot are still in the game, however the graphic "Created by Warren Robinett" was moved to the title screen, and of course changed to read "Adventure+". As a result, the Easter Egg Screen now just looks like the other rooms in the main corridor. BTW, Thanks for the compliments, I'm glad you like it. AM
