I finally got around to trying this game on the emulator. It really is a lot of fun. I was startled at first when going into 'super' mode, Pac Man got SOOOO BIG!
-
But what if I did not like the movie?
-
You just destroyed the Homebrew market ; ) Thankfully I never played that game on my 2600!
-
This is a hack of the 2600 version of Asteroids. Yes, I know.
-
Dumb question. Is there a BIN to A78 converter? I wanted to try the game out on the pro system emulator (as we are playing asteroids in the 7800 HSC right now) but do not see an open .bin option on ProSystem : (

Atari 7800 HSC reloaded Round 9 " Asteroids "
xZanU replied to darthkur's topic in 7800 High Score Club
Last night when I was playing a stray 'bullet' from somewhere managed to blow up my ship. Then again this afternoon it happened again, but this time I noticed where it came from. It was me! I somehow have now managed to blow up my own ship twice with my own gun. I was shooting, spun, moved and crossed over far enough that the shots wrapping the screen hit me. Thought it was pretty funny. -

This happened to me one game (On a high scoring one too), I had one clean transport, but the next 4 the ship exploded when it re-appeared in a clear asteroid free area. -
As entertaining as it is true. The rest of the stuff is a bit over my head : )

I would be afraid to do it as an internal (too much heat) or external (it could pull off). As an alternative, it would work just not practical (as you said). I also had an Atari XE long ago, that thing had the biggest power brick I have ever seen for any console system.
-
Just out of curiosity, why would anyone want a hard wired power adapter for the 7800?
-
You can get replacement parts from Best Electronics, http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/ If by video modulator, you are referring to the switchbox that goes between the TV and the 7800, you are better off getting a direct connect coax adapter. These are small adapters that can turn an RCA connection into a coaxial one (or visa versa, depending on your preference). I am sure Best electronics has them too, but you can also get them at radio shack or Atari Age http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?ma...;products_id=42 These are also available on eBay. EDIT:: oh and, no I would not try using the 2600 power brick, the connections (and voltage If I recall) are completely different. The Modulator should work though if your TV is old enough. But it is better to buy one of the RCA/Coax adapters as they give a much cleaner signal.

Sorry could not help myself, it seemed to be a trend here as of late =)

Any box or Manual for these?

I guess War games to some extent could be classic gaming. I've seen the King of Kong, and it should be noted that one should go read the Twin Galaxies forum thread about that movie to clear up how the film makers portrayed some things.

Atari 7800 HSC reloaded Round 9 " Asteroids "

Sheesh. Been playing this a ton and have yet to break into the 50k range again. My current best seems to be a miracle score. My hopes were up though when I was at 40k with 5 ships left, I thought for sure it would bring me new found HS Glory. But then I got shot down by one of those tiny little b-st-rd ships. Subsequently I lost the remaining 4 ships to collisions to the tune of 48,320. Time for a gripe! ... I -wish- this game had a speed limiter. A tiny tap of the thrust is just the right amount of speed to maneuver around in, but once you get into a rock storm and try to fly around a bit more than a tap, the ship is flying so damn fast that you have no chance of a way out other than slamming into something. EDIT :: 3 More rounds and I got a 55,530 Score. This time I was much heavier on the warp, got to remember to use it. Also, I may be totally mistaken, but it seems like shooting the asteroid on the edges (as opposed to a dead center hit) breaks it apart with a slower return velocity. When I hit them in the middle the smaller bits look to move faster than if I clipped it. EDIT(2) :: Another Gripe. My last game, every time I used the warp thing, my ship just re-appeared and blew up even though there were no asteroids in that spot. That was seriously annoying. -

Atari 7800 HSC reloaded Round 9 " Asteroids "

Ha ha... For fun I tried to roll my own "Death Blossom" (think 'The last star fighter') with some positive results. It is entertaining to see just how many rocks one can take out doing this (since it basically totally random). I managed to move up from Level 1 to Level 4 by doing just this. Not a good strategy but fun to see how far you can get if you are a bit zonked out on points competition. The expert level is also kinda entertaining. The enemy ships do not all fly in a straight line, they actually race towards you and can move up down and diagonally. The asteroid split (How many they break apart into when shot) seems the same, but may be more, hard to tell. -
Great! I will keep my eye out for others then and keep sending in the links the same way. Just was not sure if that was the best way to get news to you. I understand about the time (and the no pay). I've run two gaming sites in the past that ate up time and money, but nothing the size of this site. You are appreciated EDIT: Had to fix my Smile face

I sent in two that were not posted. The first was a feature gamasutra did on PONG that I thought was really neat. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3900...id_missing_.php The second was an excellent write up on the Atari Touch Tablet from technologizer http://technologizer.com/2009/01/19/ataris...retro-unboxing/ I used the Submit News Link on the front page: http://www.atariage.com/news/submit.php Granted I did not write a synopsis, but I was still surprised not to see them posted (at least the atari tablet one) since they were pretty relevant and recent. Is that not the way to send in news?

Atari 7800 HSC reloaded Round 9 " Asteroids "
xZanU replied to darthkur's topic in 7800 High Score Club
66,740 Came up with a bit of a strategy. Once you get to the point where the levels start off with 6+ large asteroids, I have found that it is a heck of a lot easier to focus on breaking down one or two large asteroids at a time (as opposed to shooting at everything that moves). I tend to go for the faster moving rocks first and try to break them all down to nothing. This leaves the slower moving ones to maneuver around (and pick apart later). The only caveat are the annoying enemy ships. If you can not eliminate them before they crash or blow up a bunch of stuff they can really create a big moving mine field. That's it for tonight, I am pretty happy with this score : ) -

Was doing good on another round of this today, but only broke 43,850. The one time I used a warp it made me re-appear inside an asteroid. Hooray! Explode. I've still not found any strategy to this game other than be lucky and tap the thruster around a bit on the higher levels.
