5200 HSC Season 5 Round 8.5 Pole Position 6 laps MGP
atariron82 replied to zylon's topic in 5200 High Score Club
Things were going good until I got caught in a "box", and then...KABOOM!: 68,400 -
Great Score phope we're going to see you play over the border again soon (did you get those disks working?) 164,190 Thanks trbb! Congratulations on your nice win too I was out of it for a couple weeks(during Tapper ), due to a bad bug, but I'm getting my game back somewhat. I believe this is the most love Vanguard has received in a looong time. It's a really fun game once you learn the mechanics and have a good controller for precise movements ps*(haven't got the drive working just yet...)

Crikey! The bloomin' end times be movin' 'round a bit here... I had a better score but sat on it a little too long: 20,400

My first crack at Super Cobra: 12,050

I was blasting my way to the fifth tunnel (until I got wiped out in the Stix round) : 131,700 Wow, it looks like broke a few records, which already just got broken....
-
I made it past the second tunnel and nailed two Gonds in a row! I may now just be getting the hang of this... 101,360
-
My strategy has always been to stay on the right side as much as possible (they shoot right-to-left only), then when you see that a Golden Shovel ™ will be passing you on the right soon, move upwards at the right moment - the shot will pass under you. You need to practice the timing, and you'll still die sometimes. That seems better(and smarter) than my method of killing everything and trying to dodge the shrapnel...nope it's near impossible
-
I almost cleared the second tunnel! I haven't figured out how to get past those doggone golden "shovels" which fire at you backwards , ..but I will 75,130 Fatty ate another one (for a nice 5000 pt bonus!)
-
I sent a missile right down the gullet of that "fat bug" boss! He(the Gond) is worth up to 8,000 points depending on your timing. I made it half way through the 2nd tunnel: 56,760 The Gond eats a missile:

I never realized what a great looking(and sounding) game this is. Of course, I'll have to ice my left wrist down after a few practice runs through the space odyssey I believe I'll use the autofire from here out... 25,870

A lot of great scores here (10K+!) for this tough game. This is one of my best ever..I even went full circle and made it to the 2nd round of yellow robots, although this time they shot back!...: 6,670

Feedback for new 2012 5200 homebrew (30th anniversary) game
atariron82 replied to Cafeman's topic in Atari 5200
"Detective Powers" is a totally original concept for 5200! The only way to top a thought-based mystery game would be to port Lord of the Dungeon, complete with battery backup!! Now wouldn't that be a sight to behold?... -
@trbb & rr: Queen were(are) the "Art Rock" masters. I have most of their albums on vinyl, except for Magic and Miracle on cassette, and then Hot Space on...8-track! I've never heard The Works or Innuendo. I've been holding out for vinyl copies of each to get a first listen

I like this game, but the controls are maddeningly crappy using keyboard . I need to get this one on cart and play it on real HW to really enjoy it.
-
Great work ziggystar I'm in awe! I can't wait to see the finished cartridge
-
Putting in some time in the ol' moon rover(an Arcade fave of mine!). I haven't quite licked the challenge round yet...it's a bit tricky : 52,050

When was this game played? This game was played on Wed evening, a week before my late post.

Congrats to sdamon for snagging the most treasure! I thought level 3 was a bit tough, but I can't imagine how insane level 8 must be. Way to go . The real challenge to this game(other than wiping out the ubiquitous baddies) seems to be making it to the bonus room with ALL of the treasure. This is a nice 5200 gem, that I haven't played nearly enough. I'll be practicing this one for next time . My internet has been down for a few days, or else I would have posted this score much earlier. Oh well, I guess I'll have to settle for an honorable mention this time: 46,620
-
Wow, that's a real piece of work sdamon! Will wico sticks do the same? Sadly, I only have one CompPro(but thankful ) and wicos are a little more common. Hope to get some time for this one...

Many snowbees were flattened in the execution of this score... 196,750

You know, that's the way most? (if not all) of us played Asteroids the last time it was played in the 7800 HSC. Keep shooting the small UFO A few people crushed the old HSC record score too. Say it isn't so rr?! Yeah, I suppose it might be fun for awhile if you were trying to "fry" the game and everyone was doing it. There is a challenge in not accidently hitting the last asteroid while shooting the UFO (since shots wrap around screen). NE146: Yes, it's legit if allowed(see above). Just don't be the only knucklehead who wonders "why is everybody getting 100X more points than me?"
-
Thanks guys, for the HSC record change. I had no idea that a "camping" strategy was used to get the aforementioned record high score. It seems like a rather "pointless" way to play the game, akin to blowing up all the asteroids, save one in Asteroids and pegging the flying saucer repeatedly to rack up a million My strategy was (and is) pretty straight forward and pattern based; I claim the maximum bonus in each round by lining up all 3 diamond blocks, one "block" from the wall. It gets risky in the higher levels and the snowbees end up getting the best of me when I make split-second wrong turns.

HSC9 Round 3: Desmond's Dungeon
atariron82 replied to therealbountybob's topic in 8-bit High Score Club
Way to go Orpheuswaking! I've been testing your .CAS Alternative Software file, and made it to level 12 from dungeon 8 (although it looks like trbb beat me by just a hair..he must have been a busy beaver going through all those atarionline.pl files ) I also did it the old fashioned way (from dungeon 1) and squeaked into Vault 11--boy, it's a real b!t$h . I'll be needing a new custom cart now with the "good" ROM so I can play this on the XEGS...where are you kjmann Starting from 8: 26,730 dungeon 12! from dungeon 1: 76,890 vault 11
